Charm and calm in a 17th-century sheepfold

Charm and calm in this seventeenth century sheepfold, classified three stars, located on one and a half hectares of meadow and forest. It is located two minutes by car from the village of Urrugne and five minutes by car from Socoa and the beach.
The sheepfold of two hundred square metres, not overlooked, is located on a hectare and a half of forest and meadow. You will find a calm and isolation that is exceptionally rare on the Basque coast, even in high season. Our land is extended by communal forests, so that you can take very long walks in the middle of the trees. There are many hiking trails that lead you to the sea or inland. All these paths can also be done by mountain bike.

From the sheepfold, you are a two-minute drive from the village of Urrugne, where you will find all the amenities (shops, post office, cafes, press, butcher, tourist office) and where a market is held every Wednesday morning. 5 minutes by car you will find Socoa and its beach. On the way, on the road to Putillenea you will find a Lidl shop and the excellent bakery and pastry shop "Les délices d'Amatxi". In Socoa there is an excellent butcher and caterer: "Chacola". The large Leclerc d'Urrugne centre, also nearby, is very busy. Finally, you are barely ten minutes by car from Saint-Jean de Luz, its great market, its pretty port and its pedestrian streets. All summer long a boat shuttles between the port of Socoa and the beach of Saint-Jean de Luz, which allows you to cross the bay in a few minutes and get to Saint-Jean on foot. Of course, all these trips can be done by bike and many cycle paths exist.

As the sheepfold is located just five minutes from the motorway exit (Urrugne exit), you can reach any destination on the Basque coast in a few minutes. The nearest beach is Socoa, 3 kilometres away. Heading north, the beaches of Surf and the charming Basque villages of Bidart and Guéthary are fifteen minutes away, Biarritz is twenty minutes away, Bayonne is thirty, and heading south, you will be in Spain in ten minutes. We particularly recommend that you visit San Sebastian, its magnificent beach, its museum, its aquarium, and the old town and its countless tapas bars half an hour away. Even closer, you can reach Hendaye by the corniche road in ten minutes. In Hendaye you can cross the Bidasoa by taking a small water taxi from the port and find yourself in Spain, in Hondarribia, in a few minutes. Here too, the beach, walks and a tapas bar await you. Finally, the location in the countryside is ideal for starting any visit to the interior of the Basque Country, where a large number of remarkable sites are located less than half an hour away.

The house is built on three levels, the slope of the land allows direct access to levels 0 and -1.
On level 0, there is the large living room and the open-plan kitchen. In the living room you will find a sofa bed for two people, comfortable and easy to handle.
On level 1, you will find the three master bedrooms, as well as two bathrooms and a toilet.
On level -1, you will find the laundry room, the fourth bedroom, a bathroom and a toilet.

The beds are equipped with mattress protector, duvet and pillows. Sheets, covers and pillowcases are not provided, nor are bathroom towels. However, if you do not want to take up too much space during your stay, we can put you in touch with a service provider who can rent you some. All you have to do is notify us 48 hours before your arrival.

For added convenience, at night, outdoor lighting is triggered when you arrive at the foot of the house. The different levels are materialised by solar-powered lights, including the large stone wall against the west façade (visible in the photo).

Located in the middle of the forest, the sheepfold is surrounded by meadow, we maintain the land very regularly, but sometimes the grass grows back faster than we want. In the laundry room, we leave at the disposal of our travellers a lawnmower whose operation is very simple, if they wish to cut shorter during their stay (a possibility, not an obligation)
