Let Shellseekers Cottage be your home away from home for your Acadia getaway during the quiet time here on the island. From October through April, this home offers 2 bedrooms accommodating up to 5 guests, a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and a large living room overlooking the ocean. The Queen bedroom has ocean and mountain views, and also has an attached full bathroom. The 2nd bedroom has a full-sized bed and a twin size bed.

There is no place on Earth like the solitude of the Maine coast. Come find your slice of serenity along the iconic rocky shoreline at Shellseekers Cottage. Privately located on its own stretch of beachfront in beautiful Mount Desert Island, and only minutes away from downtown village shops of Bar Harbor, this beach house offers an escape like no other. Take in that fresh ocean air from your secluded deck overlooking Frenchman's Bay and the granite summits of Schoodic Mountain in the distance. For beach lovers, take a stroll down the woodland path from your back door, and descend the staircase to explore the quiet rocky beach, home to sea caves and rock sculptures. The ocean has been the artist here.

"Shellseekers" gets its name from the bountiful treasures that flow in and out with the tides. Because this stretch of shoreline has no public access, the sand dollars, sea glass and shells are plentiful at low tide. This is an ecologically rich and unique coastline at your fingertips, offering solitude, seabirds, and the occasional sailboat. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the series of trails that wind down, from the ocean views through the mossy woods. An enchanted forest can be discovered, and added to from the treasures you find on the beach below.

Acadia National Park, which is MDI's crown jewel, is right at your fingertips. The park entrance is 2 miles from your front door. If you are an outdoor enthusiast and nature lover, you will enjoy the miles of coastal walks, mountain hikes, cross country skiing, all in close proximity.

Beautiful home and perfect location

We had an amazing time at Shell Seekers! The house was perfect for our two families with kids and the beach access and view were amazing. You are minutes from Acadia and Bar Harbor which is so convenient. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Wow! the views were amazing as soon as we opened the front door, loved the trail going down to the beach, we went down every low tide. Found lots of shells. Saw a bald eagle fly over as well. Close to town and the park. Great vacation :)

Amazing Acadia!

As Sherri will tell you, the pictures do this home and location no justice. It is a spacious home with amazing views and fig us perfectly. We watched eagles land in the pine over the bay, and seals play at the beach. The location is perfect, to get into and out of Bar Harbor and to enter into Acadia for hikes, etc….a wonderful home and vacation. We hope to visit again!

Perfect property on private beach

House was perfect for our family. Very clean - close access to Bar Harbor and carriage roads, but without the chaos of being in town. Short walk to a private beach with amazing caves and views. Found some sea glass and lots of sand dollars. Sheri had amazing communication and offered some fabulous local tips that were some of our favorite spots/hikes. A+ stay!

Relaxing stay at Shellseekers

We stayed here for 5 nights while exploring Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. We absolutely loved Shellseekers Cottage! The location was perfect - near to Bar Harbor downtown, restaurants, and Acadia, but in an out-of -the-way private area. The beach access was great and our dogs especially enjoyed exploring during low tide. The view from the deck is gorgeous and a bald eagle came and visited for a couple hours one foggy morning. The beds in the cottage were some of the most comfortable we have encountered in all our travels, and the cottage was super clean. There were plenty of towels and extra fleece blankets, which was nice. All in all, Shellseekers was the perfect base for our adventures and we would definitely come back if our travels bring us back to Bar Harbor in future!

Location cannot be beat!

We had a wonderful first trip to MDI! While the house is not fancy, its immaculate, warm, comfortable, and perfectly located for all the things we wanted to do on our trip. The deck, views, and private beach were particularly great. After longs days of hiking and biking we loved coming back to the house to walk on the beach and enjoy the quiet of the back deck. We have never seen so many stars!! Furnishings were comfortable (including the beds), linens were great, and the host was incredibly helpful. Highly recommend, and hope to be back!

Family Vaca

Our family has a wonderful trip and the shellseekers cottage was a great homemade. The location was perfect for exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor. The kids enjoyed the private beach and all the amazing sea life right out the back door. We spent mornings and nights on the deck overlooking the bay and watching the eagle land in the trees. Amazing trip that’ll we’ll remember for years to come!

First time to Bar Harbor

The location of the house was fantastic. It was so easy to access all parts of the island. The private beach access was such a huge treat every day. The character is so different with the changing tides. Sherri is a great host and the house was fully stocked with everything we needed. All we had to supply was food. We will definitely stay here again whenever we return.

The house was cozy and wonderful but the view from the deck and the shoreline were to die for. Do not hesitate to book. Drinking coffee on the deck was the absolute best way to start your day. Spend lots of time in Acadia and it'll round out a perfect stay.

Great house in Bar Harbor

We loved our stay here! The house is in a great location; very close to Bar Harbor and Acadia. The house was clean and the beds were very comfortable. Beautiful deck with a view. You can walk to the shore. The host was very communicative and made us feel welcome. We hope to go back one day.

Idyllic Location Charming Cottage

We had such an amazing stay at this cottage. It was well stocked and large for our family of four. The beach was truly spectacular. At low tide we explored and found hundreds of sea stars. The host was always quick to respond, accommodating, and very helpful to us with ideas for locating great trails to hike. We would return to this spot.

Our first impression of our stay was the proactive contact of the host. Messages and texts were informational and helpful without being over done. When we arrived, the house was exactly as described and pictured. Clean, comfortable and well appointed. Even the kitchen had everything we needed while we were there. Towels were plentiful and all the appliances worked. The star of the house was the view from the back deck and the picture glass living room. Sunrise, sunset, and midnight were all picture worthy. The trees on either side made you feel like you were alone and the wildlife activity was apparent. One of the many special moments was a visit from a Bald Eagle, perched in the pine directly in view of the water. At night, the Milky Way bisected the view of Frenchman's Bay and reached from the horizon and back over the house. The beach access was steep but had manageable stairs and was well maintained. The beach itself was like a personal attraction at Acadia National Park. Caves, arches, waterfalls, starfish, crabs, shells and many rocks of all shapes and sizes. We found we were near everything we wanted to see without being caught in the crowds of Bar Harbor. Truly the best of best of both worlds. As a final note, I recommend seeing the sunrise from the top of Cadillac Mountain. The drive is only a short distance from this house. You have to make plans for an early rise and get reservations, but the experience is worth it.

Great House

Sherri and this house were amazing. Sherri sent very detailed messages that left no questions unanswered about check in and check out, which I appreciated very much. She was quick to respond to my messages and had good suggestions for us. The house itself is gorgeous and was the perfect layout and size for our family of 5. We loved that every bedroom has its own bathroom. The house is a nice distance to downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia, easy to get to without dealing with traffic near the house. The private beach was absolutely gorgeous and we loved watching the changing of tides. We would definitely stay here again.

Breathtaking location - remarkable rock beach access

The location of the house was amazing!! When you walk in the house you are awed by the views - the living room and kitchen are so enjoyable to spend time looking out at the water. The back deck was a bonus and the beautiful path through the woods to the stairs down to the rock beach made everything feel like a beautiful adventure. Being so close to Bar Harbor and Acadia made everything so easy. Sheri was responsive to our texts and clearly loves MDI!
