About this property

Lakefrnt/Private Recreational Cabin/Views/2Decks/2Kayaks/Fmly/Pet/30mins2Durango

Lakefront - Premier Views! A-frame cabin with Premier Views! Fully furnished, rustic, two-story with two decks. Built on a rocky hill overlooking Vallecito Lake, this home is a half-tree house, half cabin, and total happiness. The cabin is located in a friendly neighborhood with private access to the lake's shoreline. It is comfortable in size with over 1,000 square feet for your family's enjoyment.
The cabin has forced air heating in all rooms, each bedroom on the second floor has a small fan, and there is a window air conditioner and a 16" Oscillating Pedestal Stand Fan on the first floor.
Both bedrooms are upstairs on the second floor providing a queen-size bed in each room, and a half bathroom between the rooms. There is a sectional couch on the first floor that can accommodate 1-2 persons, an additional $30 linen fee will be applied for for more than 4persons.
This is an older cabin and one characteristic we want to share is that the staircase to the second-floor staircase is 24” inches wide.
There are two decks for stargazing every evening on both the first and second floors : )
The main floor has all the accommodations of a full cabin. Equipped with a full bathroom, a kitchen with a five-burner stove stocked with tea, condiments, and basic cooking supplies for your relaxing time away, a dining area with large windows that seats up to six which can be a perfect area for a few of our stocked board games, and a comfy living area great for reading and is also decorated with a flat-screen 32" tv and Netflix. We have a few classic movies to enjoy, or you can bring some of your family's favorite DVDs. We also supply our Guests with complimentary Wi-Fi.
So come listen to the water and the wind in the trees and spend nights at the campfire on the property. Walk down the deer trail (which can be steep at points) enjoy stunning views of Vallecito Lake and enjoy drinks by a toasty fire pit. A perfect mountain and lake escape. For those of us who love lakes and ponderosa pines combined, this cabin is a hillside and a perfect place to relax and take in the mountain air.
There are two complimentary kayaks (to access kayaks, you will use a boat boarding ladder) along with life jackets and oars for your lakefront cabin experience. You are responsible for your family's safety- "At your own risk". If you choose to participate in any of these activities and use the trail to the lake - you do so at your own risk. We also supply two fishing poles, for a fishing license and other related information: http://www.vallecitolakechamber.com/members/area-fishing-information.
All pets must be approved in advance and there is a separate $50 charge. Any pets left in the cabin alone must be crated, no exceptions! READ PET POLICY!
Our small neighborhood has many majestic trees and because of this trash companies cannot use their hydraulic lift to pick up containers, all cabins use dumpsters on the main road and guests are responsible for taking their trash out.
To ensure all guests have the best experience, upon your arrival, I will try to meet with you to personally provide information on the cabin, the neighborhood, and any related information you may want to know about the area to ensure your time is memorable. One week before your stay, I will reach out to you and let you know where the keys are and helpful tips on parking and finding the cabin in case you arrive before me. I also live in the area and am available 24/7 with any questions or concerns you may have during your stay.

Great stay
Loved being up in the trees! The dual patios were my favorite thing; we all enjoyed the birds at the feeders. Air conditioner downstairs was good. A bit warm upstairs at night but not bad (mid June) with windows and fans. Safe place for the pupper on the enclosed patio. Didn’t really use the kayaks muc h as we planned to but they were fine. The trek to the water is very steep, and the hallways to get upstairs was very narrow - we didn’t expect that but made it work even though we aren’t the slimmest group! Could be dangerous though so be aware and check the property photos. Communication with host was excellent!

Beautiful views
Great little cabin with a beautiful view. There are a couple of cabins pretty close by which some of them are rentals as well. We stayed a week and unfortunately during the weekend, Saturday night and Sunday as well as the following Friday night there were some pretty loud people in one of the rentals which became really annoying. During the week it was quiet as can be so if that is what you are looking for, definitely book Monday through Thursday. The lake is not crowded at all so perfect for paddle boarding and kayaking. There is a gorgeous hike only 15 minutes away from the cabin with incredible views. The skies are stunning at night, easy access to the lake and just a wonderful place to relax.

Wonderful
We had a wonderful time. This was truly a home away from home. The attention to detail was amazing from the board games in the cabinet to the coffee in the kitchen. The beds were so comfortable! We had a fantastic stay and only wish that we could have had longer.

A family from the front range has purchased the Starry Nights Cabin, which boasts the proximity of the cabin to the stars! They have put much love into the cabin to make it an exceptional value and vacation for our Guests!

Your Contact - Hello, I'm René! My family and I moved to the Durango/Bayfield area from the shores of Santa Barbara in 2004; here, we found a home with the striking beauty of the Rocky Mountains. I have worked as a B2B consultant in the 4Corners area for nearly a decade; then, in 2015, I started the business Shanty Chic, managing quintessential mountain cabins in Vallecito Lake. Through my time in Colorado, I’ve become intimately familiar with the southwest and surrounding areas. As a host, I value taking time to create connections through personally meeting each of my guests. I listen both for needs and barriers, as well as goals and desires, in order to best accommodate you and provide meaningful suggestions for your trip. I am a guest-driven host, and my priority is to provide a safe and comfortable home for your experience in Vallecito Lake and beyond. I have cared for hundreds of guests and am excited to share all the insights that a trained guide, local business owner, and Colorado Mom can provide.

Why they chose this property

This property is in a friendly neighborhood but gives the feeling of seclusion.

What makes this property unique

On the way down the private trail to the lake's edge, there are two firepits with seatings and a game of horseshoes, all waiting 4you! The hike down and up is for the spirited : ) Once you are at the lake's edge there is a ladder (can be considered steep) to the lake with two kayaks!
