Welcome to your ideal lakeside escape at our Rustic Colorado Mountain Cabin! With premier lakefront views, this charming wooden 2-bedroom cabin, crafted in the late '40s, perfectly blends mountain-style design with modern comforts.
Step into a spacious, single-story layout that’s easy to navigate, featuring a sunny gourmet kitchen stocked with all the essentials for your culinary adventures. Enjoy meals in the cozy kitchen nook with delightful window seating, or relax in the living room adorned with high-beam ceilings.
Both bedrooms feature newer medium-firm queen mattresses and charming décor, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. The glass double doors lead you to a stunning wood deck overlooking the lake, where you can unwind at the picnic table or in patio chairs. Below the deck, another picnic table awaits for outdoor gatherings.
Our cabin accommodates 4 persons comfortably, with the option for 2 children under 12 to sleep on the pull-out couch (a $35 linen fee applies for more than 4guests or use of the pull-out). Stay entertained with Netflix and complimentary Wi-Fi during your stay. Please remember, no smoking is allowed indoors—there’s a designated dispenser on the deck, please shut the door so smoke does not enter the cabin, thank you!
The living room and dining room are adjacent with high beam ceilings, wood floors and Colorado theme design. A large flat screen TV with Netfilx and Hi-speed internet. Many books on the area for your enjoyment and a beautiful space to unwind. Dining table seats 6.
We’re pet-friendly! One to two dogs are welcome for a $50 fee, pets are not allowed on the furniture or linens, please ensure they are crated if left alone in the cabin; always under your control; picked up after outside; any flea and tick issues resolved before your stay.
Situated in a friendly neighborhood, our two independent cabins share secluded access to the shoreline. A 100-foot natural deer trail (which can be steep) leads you to your private swimming and fishing spot. Enjoy shared amenities, including a 3-person rowboat, a stand-up paddleboard (SUP), fishing poles, and a tackle box to enhance your lake experience. The canoe, SUP and BBQ are not available from the end of October until mid-Spring.
Safety is paramount, so please use the outdoor gear at your own risk and ensure life jackets are worn when enjoying the lake. For fishing licenses and marina information, visit: https://vallecitolakemarina.net.
Due to the tree cover, trash trucks cannot access individual cabins, so guests are responsible for taking their trash to the dumpsters located on the main road. To ensure you have the best experience, I will meet you upon arrival to provide information about the cabin and neighborhood.
One week before your stay, I will start communication on your upcoming trip. As your dedicated host and concierge, I am available to answer any questions or recommendations in the area so this can truly be a memorable trip.
I have a guest book in each cabin with detailed information of the cabin, area, hikes, restaurants and activities. We can also arrange to meet at the cabin so I can better understand your needs, goals, and desires, allowing me to tailor your experience to perfection!
My top priority is to provide you with a comfortable cabin, stocked with just about everything you'll need, while you explore all that Vallecito Lake and the surrounding areas have to offer.
We hope this will be your perfect mountain getaway!

About the host
Hosted by Shanty Chic - René
Hello, I'm René! My family and I moved to the Durango/Bayfield area from the shores of Santa Barbara in 2004; here, we found a home with the striking beauty of the Rocky Mountains. I have worked as a B2B consultant in the 4Corners area for nearly a decade; then, in 2015, I started the business Shanty Chic, managing quintessential mountain cabins in Vallecito Lake. Through my time in Colorado, I’ve become intimately familiar with the southwest and surrounding areas. As a host, I value taking time to create connections through personally meeting each of my guests. I listen both for needs and barriers, as well as goals and desires, in order to best accommodate you and provide meaningful suggestions for your trip. I am a guest-driven host, and my priority is to provide a safe and comfortable home for your experience in Vallecito Lake and beyond. I have cared for hundreds of guests and am excited to share all the insights that a trained guide, local business owner, and Colorado Mom can provide.
Why they chose this property
This cabin is located on Vallecito Lake. A beautiful, secluded mountain valley, just 18 miles from Durango. It is one of the largest and most beautiful bodies of water in Colorado. The lake has about 12 miles of shoreline and sits right in the middle of the San Juan National Forest.
What makes this property unique
One of the most unique benefits the Guest will have is the lake and mountains to relax and for sports enthusiasts - Enjoy! Long before the completion of the dam in 1940 made what is regarded as one of "the most beautiful bodies of water in Colorado," Vallecito was home to "The Ancient Ones," and later, the "Yuutaas," commonly known as the Southern Utes. Fur trappers, gold miners, and homesteaders followed, and with the completion of Vallecito Lake, the tourists. Today, Vallecito Lake is a special place for both residents and visitors alike. Located in a sheltered valley in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, Vallecito is a nature-lovers paradise. Come explore...
