This four (4) bedroom, two (2) bathroom property will comfortably accommodate ten (10) people with ease. Feel free to relax, renew and rejuvenate with friends and family at this exclusive low key location. This lake house has all the amenities with an up north feel with tons of great wood in the house. Lots of great indoor and outdoor spaces. We have a waterfront boathouse with a nice high top table. We have a great rec room for those times when you need to get out of the bugs or the cold. This property is great for all the seasons. Lots of activities in this area all year long!
Balsam Lake itself has much to offer – 2000+ acres of beautiful water, sandy lake bottom and great bays for water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing and all other water sports. With 7 occupied islands (and many smaller ones) and over 65 miles of shoreline, you’ll never run out of lake to explore! There is also great fishing (panfish and sport fish - including walleye), 2 restaurants you can reach by boat, and a marina with pontoon and fishing boat rental and a gas pump for fueling up on the lake! Plus, the natural springs that feeds the lake help to keep the water circulating and cleaner than manmade lakes. Wild life at the lake is a bonus enjoyment – turtles, loons, ducks, eagles, deer and even black squirrels! Downtown Balsam Lake is a quaint little strip and also fun to explore – great ice cream shop (a must-visit spot if your group has little ones), antique store, bait and tackle shop, dollar store, brewery, taverns, restaurants and more.
Winter activities are also a highlight in this area. Snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and snow shoeing are all enjoyable activities on the frozen tundra or the 18 mile Cattail State Trail. Plus, Balsam Lake’s ice fishing could arguably top its summer fishing! After a short 25 minute drive, you can find yourself at either of the region’s best downhill ski areas – Wild Mountain or Trollhaugen! Not to mention, both have awesome outdoor summer fun activities as well.
We know a really nice, large lake place is hard to come by. That’s why we are excited to share ours with you! We hope you’ll feel right at home as you walk in the door of our cabin… We know you will make special memories together as you enjoy both the cabin and this beautiful lake in this peaceful “Up North” setting.
We do have outside cameras for security on our garage as well as the back yard on the deck. We like to ensure our guests arrive safely and get into the house. Also no WIFI is available. We like people to disconnect. Cell phones work great.

Thanks Melissa it was great to have you. Glad you enjoyed it.
My family and I had a great stay at this property on Balsam Lake. The cabin was very nice and had lots of great spots to enjoy the lake view. We also really enjoyed the game room/garage area. The location was perfect- it has a nice secluded “up north” feel, but also a short drive to lots of different bars/restaurants and shops. Overall, we had a great stay here!

Thanks Dan we are so glad you enjoyed everything. Come back anytime.
Very convenient because of proximity to town. Plenty of space for our group of 7. Jason was very accommodating with early check in and was always quick to respond to question.
The listing was accurate, and the photos don't quite do justice to the beautiful setting you will experience. A wonderful cabin to enjoy with family or friends. Your only problem will be choosing where to sit it... there are many fantastic options!

Alex, so glad you guys enjoyed your stay last week. You are welcome back anytime.
Very nice property, clean and comfortable. Beautiful views, great access to lake. We used dock to fish, we rented jet skis to use the lake. Cabin is very close to public boat launch, and restaurants in town. Property is well maintained. Wish they would have a guest WiFi account to use, but used hotspot instead. Property owner quickly responded to all questions.
We’ve stayed at several properties on Balsam over the years but this was the best by far. The house and property are beautiful and equipped with everything we needed. One of our favorite things was the boathouse rooftop deck!
Jason could not have been nicer and was quick to respond to all my questions.

Exceptional home & property on beautiful Balsam Lake!
Our family had an amazing stay & are already planning our next trip!
The open water views were amazing & the boathouse dining table was the perfect backdrop to enjoy a sunset dinner & create a lifelong family memory!
We especially appreciated having multiple bedrooms & bathrooms on separate floors which provided privacy for extended family.
Having multiple gathering spaces / the garage game room provided additional entertainment that we truly enjoyed!
Thank you to Jason for sharing his personal slice of heaven!
Until next time…
This property was simply beautiful, the photo's did not disappoint!
It was a wonderful week, taking in the beauty of the lake and the home, simply gorgeous and so comfortable.
Having coffee in the morning looking out at the lake, amazing way to start each day.
Such a beautiful setting for gathering with my friends. My granddaughter and daughter in-law joined me for an afternoon, and had a great time beating me at foosball and I loved it! They asked me to book again next year when they could stay longer, it was just a great place.
Jason was a great host, I would absolutely love coming back - Thank you Jason.

Great to have you. Thanks and glad you enjoyed your time.
This cabin was situated on a nice spot on Balsam Lake. Even walking distance to the little town. Lots of spaces to sit and hang out while enjoying cabin life. The kids thought the loft space was super fun to hang and look at books. Lots of games and plenty of kitchen items for use. Our one challenge was that with renting for an extended stay there wasn’t much room left in the in closets to hang our items nor any dressers provided to avoid living out of our suitcases. Overall we had a really nice getaway and enjoyed being on the lake.

Thanks so much for the feedback and glad you enjoyed your time at the lake. We will integrate a few dressers into the bedrooms.
We brought our family of 4 for a long fall weekend, but this lake home well outfitted for multiple families to enjoy together. The property is stunning, and there are so many amazing spots to relax, dine and play.
We loved the garage conversion — playing foosball and shuffleboard with the kids, with a football game on in the background while overlooking the fall colors and the lake— it was perfect! We had the ideal weather for a fire and s’mores and found a local patch to grab and carve pumpkins.
The home is also very close to the Main St in Balsam. I loved HopSack, an awesome little coffee shop and store.
The home is well outfitted with everything you could need for your home away from home. It is very clean and well organized. We would love to come back in the summer and take advantage of the lake activities too!

Liked: Check-in, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
Beware: Cameras everywhere
Nearly 2 hours after arriving, I received a message from the owner asking us not to use his “very nice cushion from his high end furniture” on the dock. My 15 year old daughter (clad in a bikini) had pulled it off a chair 10 MINUTES EARLIER, to support her as she leaned back against it on the dock to READ a book. That's just so inappropriate and creepy. 2nd of all, If you don’t want people using your things, you really shouldn’t rent your place out. We were not misusing your property in any way. If there was damage to your cushion (which btw, looked very worn and tired) then that’s what our deposit is for. When I asked him how many cameras he had and where (since at the time, it was not disclosed in the listing), Jason responded with “I only use them when guests are arriving to ensure everything is good. Deck looking at lake and the garage”. I found 4 cameras there covering just about every angle of outdoor space. Jason also came by twice (with less than a 24 hour warning) to mow the lawn. Very hard to enjoy a peaceful lake and privacy with family, while the owner is mowing and blowing around you. We were very uncomfortable here and left early. I would have never rented this place if I had known what I know now. Beware if you rent this place.. kinda creepy to think someone might be watching your every move.

Very disappointing that you would say all these very passive aggresive comments about me and my property. I was very clear about everything with Elizabeth and she wasn't even at the cabin when I came to mow and make the property look great the first time for her and all her guests. I am the father of two girls and to have someone say that I was creepy is pretty low. First guest as you can see by all our reviews to have these things to say. Again as I communicated to you while you were at my place I am sorry if you felt this way. Enjoy life back in California!
Lots of room for the family, rec room is a great hang out space, plenty of kitchen items, have stayed at other VRBO where you get one kettle and not enough dishes for the amount of people. Jason was very responsive, would stay here again.

About the host
Hosted by Jason Gauthier
My family and I have owned this property since 2016. We continue to love spending time with our family and friends on Balsam Lake all year around. We love enjoying the summer boating season or going sking or snowmobiling in the winter. This area offers so many things to do.
Why they chose this property
We love that our property is only a short walk or drive to town yet feels like your way up north. We have a nice quiet road that has no outlet. Only traffic is the people that live on Idlewild street.
What makes this property unique
I think our property being situated on the coveted main lake is a huge benefit. We have multiple places inside and outside the property that people can enjoy their vacation. The views are amazing from all of them whether it is the rec room, top of the boathouse, main deck, lower patio or the large main dock. We always have people comment on how many great spaces we have on the property. Come enjoy!
