Lakewood Lux Property - Big Red Cottage at Treetops - HOT TUB
Treetops is Saugatuck’s only rental featuring three neighboring vintage cottages—perfect for multi-family getaways. Nestled around a shared firepit and professionally maintained hot tub, each cottage offers screened porches, harbor or dune views, and generous outdoor space for grilling and gathering. Cottages may be reserved individually or together, depending on availability. This listing is for Big Red, the largest of the three.
Big Red features two levels of living space, ideal for a primary family or group lead. The upper level includes an open-concept layout with vintage finishes, a soaring ceiling, two bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a spacious wraparound screened porch perched on the dune bluff with sweeping harbor views. The lower level, accessible by a separate entrance, includes an additional living area and private bath—perfect for added privacy. Washer/dryer included.
Set atop a 50-foot dune directly across the harbor from downtown Saugatuck, Treetops offers front-row views of the bustling waterfront. Oval Beach, one of the world’s most celebrated shorelines, is just a 15-minute dune walk or a 2-minute drive away.

The host of this property was very attentive and resolved an issue with the washer mashing asap. It’s a beautiful cabin with awesome views! Please note the 35 steps to get to the property. The only recommendation I would make is it would be much improved if there were a mechanism to hang up clothes and hooks to hang wet towels after showering. Many fun times ahead in this cabin!!
Our stay was great! The location is wonderful. Just a few minutes drive and you're at Oval Beach. The cabin itself is charming. The screened in porch was our favorite hangout spot for morning coffee and afternoon card games. The perfect place to spend our end of summer vacation!
Big Red Cottage was the perfect peaceful getaway with family. The cottage was adorable with string lights, interesting decor and all the right touches! Tons of towels and supplies, the host thought of EVERYTHING! Hot tub worked incredibly and beds super comfortable! The views on the wrap around screened in porch made for plentiful games and discussions!
The Big Red Cottage was the perfect weekend birthday getaway! It was lovely - cozy, treehouse cabin vibes. Everything was neat and clean. Perfect location!
This was our second trip to the special place in the cabin. We enjoyed game nights by the fire and the comfortable beds. Can’t wait to come back again!
My family really enjoyed this comfy cottage! It was very close to town. Erica was very easy to communicate with. Would definitely recommend this property.
My friend and I needed some post-Christmas girls trip fun and relaxation, and the Big Red Cabin was the perfect spot! We enjoyed exploring Saugatuck and Holland, even with a few rainy days. The cabin was perfect for getting cozy with drinks and TV time, plus we thoroughly enjoyed hopping in the hot tub each night. Erica was a thoughtful and friendly host!
The big red cottage allowed us to enjoy a perfect getaway. We enjoyed Saugatuck, Holland and Douglas while we were there. Having dinners on the porch while listening to the music from across the river was wonderful!
The hot tub was an additional bonus! Thank you so much for hosting us!
We had a great weekend staying at Treetops! The home was cozy, clean and in a great location. The beds were very comfortable and the cottage had everything we needed. Erica was a great host! She answered all of our questions and gave awesome recommendations. We hope to be back!
This was a wonderful, cozy, and quiet stay. We were impressed with the property and the amenities. If we had one suggestion for the future, it would probably be adding blinds or curtains as the cottage is fairly wide open and leaves guests feeling slightly exposed. That being said, you are so comfortable that you hardly notice. We will definitely consider staying again.
Excellent location with beautiful views of the water. Clean, quiet, and cozy. Close to the beach and chain ferry. Note that you will need to climb stairs to enter the property. Erica was super nice and incredibly responsive.
Every thing from the clean and lovely accommodations to the location near downtown Saugatuck and Mount Baldhead, Oval Beach, was just perfect and the exceeded expectations. Not one negative to report.
We enjoyed spending time just caching up on each other's busy lives, having many laughs and going to great restaurants. Also spent a day pampering ourselves at a spa in town. It was always great coming back to the cottage and relaxing in such cozy surroundings. Maybe we'll make it a tradition!
Very nicely appointed lake house. Beds were cozy. Within walking distance to the chain ferry to get to downtown Saugatuck. Toilet on the top floor is not fully enclosed for privacy and bedroom windows don’t have privacy shades for changing clothes, etc. Other than that, would definitely return!
Lovely property. It was too cold to use the beautiful enclosed porch but I’m sure in the summer it’s delightful. Super clean and easy to drive to town (no chain ferry in October). Oval beach is close but up a very steep hill so not really bike friendly. Supermarket, restaurants, galleries all within 5-15 min drive. View of river great. Couldn’t be happier.
We absolutely loved our stay in the red cottage. The amenities were so nice, the lights and ambiance were perfect, and the view was lovely. If you’re looking to stay at a quality home away from home, stay here! It’s not a cheaply done rental with leftover pots and pans. It’s super nice and cozy and special. My family had an amazing time and want to go back! We also want to check out the A frame across the street! The host was amazing and quick with her communication as well. Thank you!!!
Overall, it was a cozy place to stay. Due to road closure and the ferry not running, it was a 15 minute drive to downtown Saugatuck. I feel it was a bit overpriced for that area and the amenities where we could have stayed in Douglas and been closer and less expensive. When the ferry runs during the summer, would be very convenient.
I didn’t like that we didn’t have control of the thermostat in the house as it was a bit cold and had to message the owner to change it.
My kids didn’t want to sleep in the downstairs area that had a separate entrance as they didn’t want to be alone and bed too small for adults.
The hot tub was great for relaxation but know that it is shared with 2 other houses.
Very clean and owner was quick to respond and helpful.

About the host
Hosted by Erica Sinchak
Our family has been visiting the Saugatuck/Douglas, Michigan area most of our life. We hold a million sepia-colored memories in our heads. As Chicagolanders, we escape suburbia for the dunes, beaches, and woodlands of the Lake Michigan shoreline every chance we get.
We enjoy the area so much that I thought others should too. At a time when the town was still quiet and homey, I started on a journey of building true vacation destinations that are unique from anything you would find in suburbia, true cabins that drive relaxation and escape.
With no appetite for owning or managing rundown, churn-n-burn properties, we prefer to focus on high-end vacation homes with incredible amenities. In order to deliver value to our guests, the properties themselves became more than places to stay, they became experiences. Providing an experience is a combination of a unique property, different than anything our guests have at home, quality in-house amenities, unique exterior amenities such as location, and on-property activities such as jacuzzi, pools, and fire features. Finally, the experience is topped off with special treatment and high-attention from the management company (quite literally, us).
Someone once told me, “After kids, you don’t go on vacation. You visit places.” I didn’t want that for Lakewood Lux. I wanted to make each property family-friendly with the comforts of home. We splurge on high-end items like kitchen appliances, pots and pans, serveware, linens and towels to ensure a guest experience that is like or better than home. Then, we make sure all the amenities are maintained by professionals. Folks work hard to earn their vacations, and I wanted to ensure their visits were pleasantly clean, comfortable, and fun, because that’s what I would want.
Revel in The Lux.
