About this property
Easy access, roomy, close to so much but in a private country setting.
This home is currently being remodeled. The bedrooms, full bath, and laundry room are completed, but living room and kitchen are still under construction. Completely functional, but we are still in the process of designing and finishing some areas.
Formerly a one room schoolhouse built in 1876, this building was bought by a local family in 1955 and converted to a two story residence. Perfectly situated on a beautiful acre, this home offers a private outdoor seating area and deck, fire pit and unique "Pub Shed". Conveniently located near several major highways including the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Routes 70, 66, and 119. Just 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, it's a quick drive into the city, or to the Laurel Highlands historic districts of Ligonier and Latrobe, and the popular ski resorts of Seven Springs and Hidden Valley.
If you have an event in Pittsburgh, a quick hop onto the turnpike and you're in the city in 40 minutes! New Stanton is major intersection joining Rte 119 South toward Morgantown, WV; Rte 70 West toward Wheeling WV, Rte 70 East toward Somerset, Bedford and Harrisburg, and Rte 66 North toward Delmont.
***The outside fire pit and pub shed are available when the host is present and the weather is cooperative. This means that at the host's discretion there may be a fire and the pub shed may be open for lounging and karaoke. Otherwise feel free to use the seating area to relax.

Host was very communicative and helpful. Property was clean and well kept. Only real gripe is the lack of ceiling fans in the bedrooms. Got kinda stuffy. Other than that, two thumbs up!

Thanks for staying with us and for your review. I apologize for the inconvenience as the weather is still so unpredictable. The house being 150 years old does not have central A/C. The window units are installed May thru October. There are plans for a mini-split system when the funds will allow. Fortunately, the windows are all functional and if opened, can alleviate the stuffiness.
Not our first stay at the Old Stanton School. We love it here! Carole and Chet even had Christmas decorations inside and lights outside for the holiday! Wonderful hosts! We look forward to returning.

Thank you! Always a pleasure having you guys I'm just really sorry we didn't have a minute to get together, and that your stay was so brief! We'll make up the next time! Thanks again and have a happy new year!
Our family of four (including our two young adults) loves staying here. Key traits: it's peaceful, private, exceptionally clean and very comfortable! Plenty of space, with multiple rooms on two floors. The hosts provide many nice amenities to help guests feel right at home. They're also very responsive to anything you may need.

Beautiful place. Everything you need plus, for a wonderful get a way. We came for a wedding at Zinzer venue, close 10 minutes away. Everything close you need, but place is on a quiet deadend street. Couple are wonderful host. Thank you guys.

Thank you for your great review! It was a pleasure having you I'm sorry we didn't get an opportunity to chat perhaps the next time you visit!❤️❤️❤️
My husband, mom and aunt stayed at Chet’s place to attend a family event in Irwin. This is the cleanest rental I’ve stayed at. It is well supplied, the internet is great and the beds are comfortable. We already have plans to stay again in a couple of months.

I was thrilled by the simple to use coffee maker, coffee pods, and creamers. The home is clean and comfy, and I highly recommend it. So much nicer than staying in a hotel reasonably priced. The hosts were welcoming and there was great communication provided.

About the host
Hosted by Chet Joseph
Hi I'm Chet Joseph, I'm born and raised in this area and Carole and I have been a couple for a number of years. I work full time for the US Postal Service and run a small post office about 15 minutes from the AIRBNB. In addition, I have been a contact DMV agent for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the past 37 years. I operate two small DMV offices in the adjoining town of Youngwood. I'm a busy person who enjoys traveling, family outings, RVs and campers, theater and concerts and best of all, a nice quiet evening sitting around the fire and making new friends. Carole is retired and has a new grandson that takes a lot of her time. She recently purchased a property in Ligonier PA, a cabin in the woods that she hopes to turn into an AIRBNB as well. Like me she loves camping, traveling, family and making new friends!
Why they chose this property
When we purchased back in 2014 I had no idea what was in store for us. All we knew was that this building has history, good bones and needed some TLC. Well that along the way we realized that this was too good not to share and the AIRBNB idea come up. That now has become our focus and continued improvement of the location and the amenities.
What makes this property unique
Country setting, privacy and a unique experience are the goals. Close to so many things and attractions, the Laurel Highlands are filled with great things to see and do, from wineries and restaurants to theater and mountains, skiing, hiking, biking nature walks you name it! Pittsburgh is within an hour to downtown and the cultural district with it's many options for superb entertainment. If you have questions or need a recommendation just reach out to Carole or Chet and we'll be quick to give you guidance to many interesting things.
