About this property

Black Bear House on Blueberries Hill

Black Bear House Welcomes You! Indulge in your stay at our 1600 sq ft 2 story mountain home and enjoy marvelous view of the iconic Table Rock. Relaxing on the expansive balcony with a lot of decking, you'll hear nothing but the sounds of nature. At 3800ft, this mountain paradise awaits you within our property located inside the pristine Pisgah National Forest-we are nestled right between Little Switzerland and Linville Falls!
Located just 2 miles from the Bear Den exit (mile marker 324.8 on the Blue Ridge Parkway), Black Bear House is the perfect get away for couples, families or groups of friends. Featuring 3 bedrooms, one game room and 2 bathrooms, this mountain home has everything you need for your perfect vacation: kitchen appliances, full bath with traditional shower/tub downstairs and custom glass shower upstairs, with lots of deck. Stay a few days and take in the local sites or stay a week and use Black Bear House as your starting point for day trips to Cherokee, Asheville, Blowing Rock, Boone, and Linville Falls up and down the Parkway or skiing at Sugar Mountain, Beech and others. We're in the middle of all that Western North Carolina has to offer!
Local attractions include: the historic Altapass Orchard (featuring live music and festivities throughout most of the year), Springmaid Mountain (horseback riding, tubing, fly fishing), Linville Falls, Linville Caverns, Wilson Creek Wilderness Area and many other hiking trails all within a 15-30 minute drive up the Parkway to the north; Little Switzerland, Crabtree Falls and Mt. Mitchell are 15-45 minutes down the Parkway to the south; Table Rock, Lake James, Blowing Rock, Tweetsie Railroad, Boone, Grandfather Mountain, Sugar Mountain and Hawks Nest are all within a 45minute drive.
Our section of the Blue Ridge Parkway between Highway 226 and the Bear Den exit is typically open year-round. Check local weather conditions and the Parkway website in the winter for possible temporary closures. A 4-wheel drive is not needed to access our property unless there has been a heavy snow. Our community road is maintained year-round and our driveway is motorcyclists friendly and has pretty much flat access. Parking area will easily fit 4 cars. Main source of heat for the home is electric with gas fireplace and heater as backup.
Sorry, no wi-fi because it is not available in this area. All 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom are located on first floor. Living room, Dining Room/Kitchen, Laundry room, Game Room and 2-nd bathroom are on second floor.
We hope you will enjoy our Black Bear House in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Pisgah National Forest! May The Forest Be With You!

Amazing sunrises over Table Rock Mountain!
Location, location, location! Right off the BR Parkway and close to Linville Winery, Linville Falls, Crabtree Falls, easy drive to Grandfather. The cabin is very clean and well appointed, including firewood for the fire pit, making it for an easy long weekend stay. We did have some issues and had to call the owner. They called us back right away and were on the property within two hours to try to fix the problem. They did also issue a small refund for the inconvenience.

Lovely home with fantastic views!/
This was our second stay at Black Bear House. It is one of the best equipped homes we have rented. There is no Wi-Fi or cable tv (local stations), but we didn't turn on the TV. We spent our time sightseeing and catching up with friends. It is a short distance from the parkway, which we love to drive.

Last minute get away for fall
I decided last minute to take my family away for the weekend to experience the fall colors. The house was exactly what we needed, convenient location with a yard for the kids to run around and a fire pit for evening star watching. It was perfect for our short stay, we mostly slept there and did outings during the day. The only downfall was the fridge was not working, but this was communicated to me prior to check in and they offered a mini fridge for our stay. The views of table rock can’t be beat. We loved sitting out on the porch for morning coffee.

Great place!
Loved our stay at the Black Bear House! It was super cute and clean. Didn’t realize from the pictures that all the bedrooms are downstairs so my 89 year old mom had to go up and down more than I would have liked but fortunately she is in great shape for her age. We celebrated her birthday there and the owners had decorated with a Happy Birthday banner, balloons and a birthday card. So special!! View of Table Rock mountain was wonderful and we got great pictures of the sunrise. The location was really convenient with easy access to Blue Ridge Parkway. The Tropical Grill in Spruce Pine was a good find for dinner, eclectic place but food was great! Would definitely go back to Black Bear house. Communication with owners was really good. House doesn’t have internet and cell service is not great but for a few days is not a problem for us.

Why they chose this property

We were blessed to have such beautiful piece of property in the Pisgah National Forest very close to Blue Ridge Parkway and have a gorgeous view of Table Rock year around. If you like serenity, peace and tranquility, if you like to unplug and disconnect yourself from modern technology for a a while and connect yourself to nature to charge yourself for a good-this is property for you to stay.

What makes this property unique

You will drink purest water from a spring well, breathe clearest air of the mountains, listen to whispering trees, see hummingbirds chasing each other (in season), watch clouds shaping around from covered balcony, watching for shooting stars and making a wish, experiencing great attitude at high altitude and possibly see a bear, deer, turkey etc.
