I reserved this property nearly a year in advance for Gonzaga’s graduation and was excited to stay near Manito Park. When we arrived, we were shocked by the exterior condition of the bungalow. It appeared abandoned or neglected, with unmowed grass, ripped screens, tall weeds, moss on the roof, dirty windows, and peeling paint.Inside, the home generally matched the listing photos. The kitchen and bathrooms were updated, and the space appeared clean. However, there was a strong musty, moldy odor throughout the house that immediately caused concern. My sister-in-law, who has had sinus surgery, began experiencing sinus irritation right away, and both my husband and I developed scratchy throats within minutes. We also had serious security concerns. The front bedroom window locks were loose and deteriorated, and the front door mail slot appeared to allow easy access to the deadbolt from outside. There was also no way to lock the front door from inside the home.I contacted the owner, who said he was busy and would call later. After reaching out to VRBO for assistance, the owner refused to issue a refund and instead offered candles or odor neutralizers, suggesting the issue may have been seasonal allergies. At one point, my nearly 70-year-old sister-in-law offered to sleep in the car rather than stay there.VRBO representatives were extremely responsive, reviewed our photos and concerns, and ultimately supported our claim and refunded our money.
