Oldest functioning property in Old Town dating back to 1750. Originally built by Lawrence Washington, George Washington’s half-brother, who then passed the property to our founding father. Walk in the footsteps of authentic American history.

This property includes recently renovated Old Town Alexandria historical carriage house upper apartment situated as the first property next to the intersection of South Lee Street and King Street, which is the true heart of Old Town.

Perfectly placed amid the restaurants and shops of Old Town Alexandria, within walking distance to water activities, trails, and parks along the river. Updated bathroom, TV, and kitchen appliances along with a small electric fireplace for ambiance (not wood due to guest safety) provide for a wonderful stay in Old Town on the oldest functioning property in Old Town, Alexandria.

Thomas could not have been more welcoming and helpful!We also booked the upper carriage house along with the Washington Family home main house and it made for the perfect place for my sister to have some comfortable privacy to sleep and bathe. Everything kept in good condition.The only cons are that parking in the nearby garage is paid, and the heat/ac unit is kinda loud - think hotel room volume. We had the electric unit in the fireplace on too, but it wasn't able to keep up.Besides those nitpicks, it was a fantastic location that we loved!

Old Town gem

The place had everything we needed for a one week stay in Alexandria. A block off King Street and the river in the heart of Old Town but also quiet and private. We brought our bikes and biked the Mt. Vernon Trail. The studio apartment was cozy and fully equipped. The courtyard was great for evening relaxation and had a handy washer and drier. We'll be back!

Weekend Getaway

The Vrbo is perfect for an Old Town Alexandria getaway. The location is right off of King Street and right in the middle of all the action, restaurants and waterfront. The studio apartment has all you need for a home-away-from home feeling. We loved the colonial vibe of the building and neighborhood. It is the most quiet place we have stayed. You do have to ascend a 7-8 step iron spiral staircase to get to the door. Driving, parking and door code directions were accurate and easy to use. Highly recommend!!

Wonderful Cozy Stay

I thoroughly enjoyed this space! It was cozy, clean, and comfortable during my late fall visit to Alexandria. And it was literally steps away from King street, great food, and all the things! I will definitely stay here again. It is definitely a small studio unit for one or two, but the well stocked kitchen has full sized appliances and the bathroom is a nice size and very nice. The host was easy to work with. I only had to contact him twice during my stay, and he responded quickly both times.

The first owner of the property was Lawrence Washington, George Washington's half brother. Truly, you will be walking in the unique footsteps of revolutionary-era American heroes, who fought for the creation of our great Nation.

Why they chose this property

You simply cannot find a property that is closer to the heart of Old Town. That terms is often used to describe many places in Old Town, but none is more centrally positioned just 80 steps from the intersection of King and Lee Street, which is truly the center of Old Town.

What makes this property unique

It is the oldest functioning house in one of the oldest areas of our Nation, owned by George Washington's family. Now that is unique.
