This home has actually been dated back to 1800 to 1830, due to an old window, in the sunroom now, and the side windows near the front door. If that breaks-we discovered we have to order the glass out of Belgium currently. The glass dates to the Jeffersonian glass from his factory in Richmond that burned down in the 1830's .. and how do I know this ? As an architect with the AIA, I have had the historical chapters analyze the glass, trusses and more of the home . I work on the home slowly with experts. It is critical to preserve this home, it is one of the originals in town. The foundation was worked on 2023, so the floors are level now, the staircase yes is steep, however, no one can correct this without tearing down the home. As an architect and preservationist, this is one of those wonderful qualities of a home from 1800 to 1830. This home was built before the town was established. It is a great home, and I know the owner that grew up in this home , one of the original Cape Charles people left today. ( yes they grew up in the home in the 1940's on ). Their value added is wonderful, so we could take the home back correctly and understand the nuances.
Please note, there are flies, fruit flies, mosquitos, and perhaps some other insects flying in the yards and they do get in the homes, due to weather, surrounding area, and beach. The fig trees attract alot of these. We do have Terminix to assist with this control of these flies, outside and inside. They also offer a natural product. There are no refunds for flies/ fruit flies or any flying insect, we cannot control nature . These come every year- just use the replacement filters for the plug ins that are in the home, to assist with any entries. Best to cook all crab outside as well, since this also leaves an odor and attracts lots of flies.

I am an architect, AIA, and love renovating old homes, this , along with my other one in Maine on the shores of Bar Harbor have been the oldest. This home however is from 1800 to 1820, dated from the glass and the mortice on an old openings in the home. I had the opportunity to network with the archeologist's and historians of the Jefferson rehab in Forest, which thank you to them , dated my glass and locks back to these exact decades. This is one of the very first homes in Cape Charles , before it was a town / village. The glass come from Jeffersons first glass factory in Richmond, that burned down in early 1930's. So please no one break the glass, today the historians and archeologists have to go to Belgium to recreate this unique piece. It has "holes/indents" and waves in the glass to follow the sun and re-fractions. It displays light in a unique pattern , Jefferson created this, the factory and had Monticello and Forest homes built with this glass , and here is a piece of that on our shore
Why they chose this property
Largest Back Yard around this close the Beach with a Fence! Plus 2 blocks to the Beach , Downtown Shopping and Dining are behind you , so 2 min walk
What makes this property unique
Fenced in Back Yard, Largest Back yard around this close to Beach. 2 Blocks to Beach, 1 min and 1/2 block walk to shopping, ice cream, library and Pub , dining and more . This is really one of the very first homes in Cape Charles before 1860, archeologists and Historian AIA members with my help , have dated it from 1800 to 1820.. This is an incredible home.! Every time we pull a permit for foundations , or doors or windows, we discover the old chestnut balloon framing of the home, and wood lath, the ole brick chimneys, the old porch that we know who enclosed ( not us ) but we are preserving this as a statement to history. The ole glass is yes, single pane, one window left, but it is the history , and it is from Jeffersons factory in Richmond, yes our 3rd President designed this glass and created his own factory's to build it , the Capitol had some at one point from 1800 to 1820. His factory in Richmond burned down in 1830, then Pennsylvania factory burned down in the early 1900's. Now even Monticello and I and Jeffersons favorite home , to hide in -( he was a recluse) , Forest Poplar home, we all have to reach out to Belgium to obtain his original design of this glass , which is incredible.
