About this property
Stay 31 days at the Big Red Barn & Sailing on the Bay!
As a "special" for next month we are offering to take you out sailing on our Morgan 38 berthed in Sausalito. We sail out and find a good place to moor. We eat lunch...eat drink and be merry!! You'll see San Francisco from a perspective that few people ever see. And we'll have a blast!!
Located in the heart of beautiful Sonoma Valley, our gated 2-acre estate includes the Big Red Barn offering a wonderful, private 1-bedroom with king-sized bed, 1-bath, and great room apartment above the winery. There is an additional half bath below your entrance. There's a comfy sofa in the great room which pulls out into a Queen bed as needed; this would only be suitable for children). The modern kitchen has all the amenities you will need to feel at home in your cozy wine country retreat. The second-story covered patio offers a large dining table and BBQ as well as views, view, views which guests always remark on! There is also a swimming pool steps away.
This gorgeous, modern "barn" is constructed with large timbers connected by mortise and tenons with pegs, a feature of most early American barns. It has a spacious covered porch with a big table and wicker chairs overlooking the field across the winter creek. You'll enjoy the quiet, the views of horses, rolling hills, and vineyards. There is almost a tree house feeling to this the space!
The bedroom overlooks the expansive lawn leading to the tree lined Sonoma creek. It has a luxurious king size bed with high thread count sheets and ample closet space along with 2 fluffy white bathrobes. The gracious high-ceiling living room has a Queen sleeper in the seating arrangement.
This vacation unit is located over the home winery. You will enjoy seeing the climate controlled barrel room and covered crush pad. You will also enjoy a complimentary bottle of our wine upon your arrival, along with fresh fruit, muffins, granola, milk, tea and coffee (which you can brew at your leisure). We hope your visit will be one you will always remember, and that you will return!

About the host
Hosted by Catherine Moylan Jefferson
Catherine and Dave live full-time on this carefully chosen, wine country property. The main house is an Arts & Crafts styled, timber-framed hybrid, "green-rated home" which they finished building together in 2010. The Jefferson's love living in Sonoma County, have a strong local connection, are active in Rotary, and enjoy wonderful neighbors. They love meeting new people, traveling, sailing and taking many road-trip adventures together in their RV. Catherine is mostly retired from the rural real estate business and is a large-scale home winemaker. Her brand is "Moylan Rouge," playing off her maiden name, Moylan. Dave is in the vineyard and winery business and "trying" to retire, just a little.... They love to go out for great local foods, drink wine, sail, garden, and entertain. They have a sweet cat named Tule and two lively Aussies, Rosie and Cedar, who you may meet when you stay here, and a flock of chickens to keep them company. (Please don’t ask if we would allow your dog, we can’t for a variety of reasons)
Why they chose this property
The Big Red Barn is located in Kenwood, an unincorporated wine country village along Sonoma Highway (State Rt. 12) between the cities of Santa Rosa and Sonoma. Kenwood is in the Sonoma Valley AVA, also called the "Valley of the Moon," and is known for vineyards, wineries, and restaurants. People love Kenwood with its small town charm. The climate is "California-mild" and weather is just beautiful most of the time. This barn is located in a magical place.
Mound Avenue is actually a county road, albeit just over 100 yards long, and serves only this property and is gated. There is an abundance of wildlife here due to the year round Sonoma Creek. There are two wildlife cameras installed on the bank along the water to track the local mountain lions. There are many comings and goings on 1 Mound, both human & not! The owners would be happy to show you the galleries of pictures that have been taken.
What makes this property unique
After traveling down Warm Springs Road, then turning on Mound Avenue, we found ourselves driving under Poplars and big old Black Walnut trees, with an orchard to the left and a vineyard to the right. When you get to the beautiful curved bridge, the gate opens and as you cross the bridge, you find yourself coming into a dappled, shaded glade.
We are located between a winter and a summer creek. We were knocked out by the views of horses in a pasture we don't have to care for and vineyards that cost us nothing. We have attempted to plant our property like an Arboretum. If you are a plant lover and would like a tour, Catherine would love to give you one.
