Miss Ruby’s Mid-City • our historic home
Welcome to Miss Ruby’s Mid-City. We are in a safe, quiet residential neighborhood just steps from a streetcar line, in the heart of New Orleans. A short streetcar ride takes you to the French Quarter or Audubon Zoo and walking distance to dozens of restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores and pharmacies, and night spots. Let us host you in our newly renovated 100+ year-old home, featuring original millwork, 14-foot ceilings, 2 parlors, pocket doors, and an open living space. Perfect for rest or play!
Mid-City is centrally located in the heart of New Orleans, a short walk or drive to everywhere. Our quiet residential neighborhood includes the Lafitte Greenway Bicycle and Pedestrian linear park, Bayou St. John, the BioInnovation District, and both Tulane and Veterans Administration Hospitals. Miss Ruby's is mere steps from the Canal Street streetcar line, which in one direction is a 15-minute ride to City Park where you will find a public golf course, the New Orleans Museum of Art, Sculpture Garden, peddle-boats for rent on Big Lake and bicycles too. In another direction, a 15-minute ride on the streetcar will take you to the French Quarter, the Aquarium of the Americas, and the downtown New Orleans riverfront.
The closest places to Miss Ruby’s for (good) eating and drinking are one street over, in the next block on Telemachus Street (pronounced, “təˈleməkəs”). Both are guest favorites. Katie’s Restaurant (3701 Iberville Street) and Liuzza’s Restaurant & Bar (3636 Bienville Street), are both casual, popular, and good.
For fabulous breakfasts, walk a couple blocks to Up&Adam, at 3903 Canal Street, or Fullblast Brunch, at 139 S. Cortez Street. (Don't miss the Tchoupitoulas Omlette at Up&Adam, pronounced "CHOP-i-TOO-ləs")
A scant 5 blocks from Miss Ruby’s is the commercial corridor centered around the intersection of Canal Street and Carrollton Avenue. There, you’ll find dozens of bars and restaurants and other businesses that may interest you, including the following:
• Trep’s (restaurant, with covered and heated outdoor seating), 4327 Bienville Street • Felipe’s Mexican Taqueria, 411-1 N Carrollton Avenue • Clesi's Restaurant (boiled and other seafood, sandwiches), 4324 Bienville Street, 504•909•0108 • Bevi Seafood (seasonal fresh-boiled seafood), 236 N Carrollton Ave • Blue Oak BBQ, 900 N. The hosts were very welcoming and attentive. The house itself was very comfortable and a beautiful place to stay. The neighbourhood was very quiet, yet we were only a few houses away from Canal st where the streetcar stops were.
Fantastic home in a safe location and within walking distance to several eats and drinks and right on the Canal Streetcar Line. Owners were very responsive as well.
Location of the property was very convenient for us. Super easy to catch the trolley, good restaurants within walking distance. Plenty of dishes, spices, normal supplies. Communication with the host was great!
Lovely house in a nice quiet neighborhood, great central location. Walk to restaurants and streetcar on Canal Street.
We’ve been several times and will definitely be back!

Lovely house, great location, nice quiet neighborhood. We walked to restaurants and also cooked in the well equipped kitchen - comfy beds and very clean.
We’ll be back!
Quiet, seemingly safe neighborhood. Beautifully renovated property. The owners are excellent with very good communication. I will always rent this beautiful home.
We had a great stay here with friends. Absolutely love the Mid-City neighborhood and this property is located within walking distance of everything the neighborhood has to offer. The house was great, well equipped, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. We would definitely return here in the future!
A colleague and I stayed here for a couple of nights on a work trip. It was a great, spacious home for us and the location was perfect. Hosts were very communicative. Would love to come back!
We traveled to New Orleans for our sons 21st but wanted a place away from the noise of Bourbon Street. This place was beautiful, clean and very centrally located. Easy to find driving in, and very easy access to the trolley. Great host. Thank you for a great stay.
Stayed for a week and worked out perfect.
So easy to take streetcar to French Quarter.
2 great restaurants just 2 short blocks away.
Has everything you need…2 bathrooms, washer/dryer, big comfy beds, and A/C!
Would stay again for sure!
Very nice home in a safe, quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed walking to Katie's for supper and to the trolley for a ride downtown. The home is well equiped and comfortable.
What a great location. Centrally located, quiet neighborhood, a short drive to the Quarter. Walking distance to a couple of great restaurants. Just the right size. The hosts were quick to reply to questions. The beds were cozy. The porch was a great place to relax at the end of the day. We loved it so much that we already have booked it next year again.
First time in New Orleans and staying at Miss Ruby's was a real bonus and our hosts were so welcoming and attentive. The neighborhood was the perfect location - next to the best eateries, steps away from the Streetcar, and a walkable community. Thank you for a wonderful introduction to NOL.
This was my 2nd stay at this wonderful home! The house is nicely decorated and has plenty of old charm. I love the neighborhood too; where there are plenty of local places to eat and drink within walking distance. Plus, I also love the fact the we can jump on the street car when we want to venture out further. Hopefully, I’ll be back next Spring! Great Hosts!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this historical, charming and comfortable home in a wonderful city. It offers spacious bedrooms, updated kitchen and plenty of parking. It’s in a great location within easy walking distance to nearby restaurants and the Canal St. trolley, which in turn provides easy access to many areas of particular interest throughout the city. The owners are friendly and hospitable, and they responded immediately when needed. All in all a very enjoyable stay at Miss Ruby’s.
When entering the home, you are greeted with tall ceilings and original woodwork. The parlor doors lead to a modern, updated kitchen. The hosts provided nice amenities and were very responsive, reaching out to check in unprompted. Location is great with off-street parking. Great restaurants are in walking distance. Streetcars are in walking distance. If driving yourself, all tourist sites are within 10 minutes drive.
Very clean and quiet neighborhood. Easy access to real good food and streetcars. Only issue was parking my 3/4 ton crewcab in driveway. But we made it. Would definitely consider staying again. Glad our friend had to cancel she would have issues with doors not closing and locking. Also windows with no curtains or sheets. Was fine for just us. Was a really good place with potential to be outstanding.

About the host

Why they chose this property
Miss Ruby's is a three-bay shotgun house typical of the local design. My wife, Kristin, and I acquired and renovated our house into its current sidehall shotgun layout. Then, a random conversation with one of the neighbors told us that our house had been Miss Ruby's Mid-City Bed-and-Breakfast decades ago, so Kristin and I adopted this name for the house as our own.
We renovated it top to bottom, reusing the original architectural antiques as we modernized the floor plan, closing some doorways and opening walls. We retained the original living and dining room parlors, still separated by the original pocket doors. We kept the original heart pine hardwood floors, 14-foot ceilings, and floor-to-ceiling windows that give the casual living areas a light, airy feel. We built a small addition in which to create the sidehall, a spacious new bathroom, and a laundry room. We kept the bedroom paneling and reused the original French doors, transoms, casings and other millwork, so that Miss Ruby's retains its original architectural charm.
After our renovation, Miss Ruby's now has the expected modern conveniences, including central air and heat, high-speed internet, WiFi, big-screen television, and other amenities.
Although you will be providing for many of your needs during your stay, we offer the essentials for items that you might forget or need before you can get to the store. If you need or want something during your stay, please let us know. We want your stay to be easy and comfortable.
