About the host
Hosted by Susan Stoddard
We are a couple of art historians who have been fortunate to work and play in two wonderful places: Maine and the South of France, where we have been involved in an archaeological excavation on a medieval site for many years and have enjoyed teaching art history at the University of Maine for decades as well as run a sheep farm for 20 years. We both love the ocean, the small farms, the architectural and historical heritage and the generous and creative people of this region and have worked to help preserve the land and heritage here, and the vibrant and diverse communities around us.
Why they chose this property
After living on a salt-water farm outside town for many years, we moved into town so we could walk to places and enjoy the many cultural riches of the greater Brunswick area in retirement. We have a delightful guest house and are happy to be able to offer guests many of the same benefits to being in Brunswick that we enjoy.
What makes this property unique
A private and quiet home base yet being able to walk to many places, whether to shop at the farmers' market, or walk to a restaurant for dinner or a drink or café latte is a great advantage. There are aways new things to see at the museums and galleries and it is fun to peruse the two bookstores in town or check out the Cabot Mill Antiques shops. And it is not far in the car to get to beautiful natural settings for great walks, picnics or swimming and places for watching sunsets and star-gazing after dark. The vibrant city of Portland is close enough to take in the art and fashion scene and going to a show, a concert, or one of the many highly-rated restaurants, and generally enjoying the nightlife there, is very doable from our place.
