The space
This private three bedroom home features an open floorplan, kitchen, dining area and living room with Smart HDTV. Fully appointed kitchen with appliances, including stove, oven, refrigerator and microwave. Bedrooms are comfortably furnished with beautiful crisp new linens, pillows and bed coverings. Spacious living room includes comfy sofa, Smart HDTV, free high-speed Wi-Fi, onsite parking and key-less access.

Clean but deceptive

The home was very clean and we appreciated the home essentials that were supplied, however the photos and layout of the property were a bit deceptive. The photos make it appear the home was recently painted/redone, which certain areas like the bathroom were, but the photos were definitely photoshopped to make the home seem brighter/more fresh than it actually was. Two of the bedrooms are actually connected, and there are two doors to get into the bathroom and one doesn’t lock. All three chairs at the dining table were falling apart, and one was entirely missing. The home is not located in the heart of Columbia, but actually in a more rundown neighborhood on the outskirts. The neighborhood wouldnt have been such a drawback if the windows would have locked and if the door lock didnt just go into the door trim (missing metal strike plate). Overall security was the main concern.

Worst experience ever

We were very excited about going to our daughter’s army Boot Camp graduation. I reviewed a lot of hotels and VRBO and found this adorable little house. Upon arrival, we were very shocked. The house was hard to find, and they were several stray, cats, which we love animals, but it just seemed odd. Then when attempting to get into the house, the code did not work and we noticed several screens were broken, and the back door had a screen that was lifted and it looked like someone had broken in. Two or three cars parked out front of the house with loud music playing, and what appeared to be in apartment complex surrounding the home. Having veteran out of state plates, and no driveway, made us feel very uneasy. Upon calling Vrbo host, we were advised to lift the doormat to find the house keys. Yes they were there, but this certainly didn’t make us feel any more secure. We told the host of this time that we did not feel comfortable staying and they seem to be very understanding. I receive several text messages from them, which asked if they could go in and fix the problems during our reserved time.. I was very understanding and approved. We seem to be in agreement at that time and thankfully found a hotel that could take us in such short notice. Long story, kind of short, upon arriving home was advised that VRBO did not approve of any refunds even though they knew we did not stay there for the week, and they agreed the home needed to be repaired.

At the time, we provided the key under the mat as a quick workaround to ensure you could access the home. While not the standard we strive for, this was the best solution in the moment, and we’ve since resolved the issue. Regarding the back door and screens, we want to clarify that the back door you mentioned is not an entry point, it’s a storage area for the water heater. The screen being out of place was a minor maintenance issue, and there were no signs of tampering or forced entry. We understand that the neighborhood may have felt different from what you expected. While it’s a safe and residential area, factors like parked cars or music are unfortunately outside of our control. We do everything we can to ensure the property itself is secure and welcoming, but we recognize that the environment outside can sometimes feel unpredictable. On the topic of the refund, we completely understand your frustration. Refunds are determined based on platform policies, which consider whether the property was accessible, secure, and ready for your stay. Since you chose to leave before we could address the issues you raised, and the property was still operational and habitable, the platform did not approve a refund. We’re sorry this outcome wasn’t what you were hoping for. We’re grateful for the feedback you’ve shared, and we’ve already taken steps to address the concerns raised during your reservation. Your input helps us improve, and we’re committed to ensuring future guests have a great experience. I should have read the reviews first!

We stayed for 30 days. We were in town to transition a new business so we needed more than a hotel but less than a new apartment. If I read the reviews I would never have booked it.It started at check-in. The neighborhood isn't the best so when we arrived in town at 2am and had to stand on the porch 20 mins trying multiple codes trying to gain entry, it kind of set the tone.The bed was so uncomfortable we purchased a foam mattress topper just to be able to sleep. The washing machine overflowed the first day because of a loose hose/connection-not overloading like the property manager subtly suggested when we called them. The dryer is so loud I had to scream at my husband for him to hear me. It's an old stackable unit and they really should replace it. The chairs at the 1 table furnishing the house were broken. We lost internet for about a week which made working impossible from the house. I hade to connect to my mobile hotspot which was rough on our data plan. We where told repeatedly it was an outage but it eventually came down to someone coming out and changing the modem out. The heat was unbearable. The vents are directly under the head of the bed. They had mini humidifiers so they are aware of the issue. The one positive thing was the response time of the property management company "Plushy". I never had an issue with them answering me.The owners/hosts should be ashamed of themselves for charging what they charge for this unit.

We always try to make things as smooth and comfortable as possible, and it’s disappointing to know we fell short in some areas. About the issues you mentioned: Check-In: I know it’s frustrating to deal with delays, especially at 2 AM. The door lock itself was working, but the doorknob being locked caused the trouble. That was unintentional, and we’ve already reminded our cleaning team to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Washer and Dryer: The washer overflow was caused by a loose drain hose, not overloading. Once we identified the issue, we secured it, and it worked fine afterward. The dryer is an older model, but it’s safe and functional. That said, we’ll keep your feedback in mind when looking at future upgrades. Internet: The outage was tough, and we totally get how important Wi-Fi is, especially for work. Unfortunately, it was an issue with the service provider. We worked with them to resolve it and even replaced the modem to get things back up and running. Comfort Issues (Bed, Heat): I’m sorry the bed and heating setup didn’t work for you. We’ve had positive feedback from other guests, but we’ll take a closer look and see what can be improved for better comfort. Furniture: The broken chairs weren’t brought to our attention during your stay, so we didn’t have a chance to fix them. We’ll check and replace anything needed to make sure future guests don’t run into this problem. We’re glad you found our team responsive, we really do try to tackle any issues quickly and make things right. While not everything was perfect this time, we’re always working to improve, and we appreciate your honesty. Thanks again for staying with us, and we hope you’ll give us another shot in the future!
