Super clean house. Kitchen is well stocked and a joy to cook in and user friendly. Living space very comfortable for a few people and nice fire place. Bathroom warm and well appointed. Master bedroom great size, had wonderful sleeps every night.

Thank you for an excellent review. We hope to see you again.
This place is amazing. I love the location on the river and the spacious property. I even caught some fish in the river with my boys. Inside had plenty of space and was very clean. My family had such a great time here and were sad to leave. Great proximity to Lake George and many other outdoor adventures. I look forward to coming back

Ryan, thank you for your wonderful review, and we look forward to seeing you again.
This carriage house with surrounding woods and riverside access was amazing. Although the weather wasn’t too great we enjoyed ourselves immensely and plan to return in warmer weather to definitely splash around in the Hudson.

This is a wonderful place to stay. Beautiful access to the outdoors and river. Very clean and spacious accommodations and helpful friendly caretakers.
Highly recommend!
Perfect stay for our families needs. Ground managers live on property and are very friendly and helpful! Their two dogs were very welcoming of our pup, who loved running free around the property. Hudson lake access and great view. Well equipped kitchen, large TV, and comfortable furniture. Recommend renting a boat from Yankee’s boat rental to explore Lake George (pet friendly) and short hike to Goose Pond for a lovely swim if you go to the Pharaohs lake wilderness area.

Our family loved our time here. It was exactly the quiet we were looking for, and centrally located for the sites we were wanting to visit- Lake Placid, the High Peaks and Lake George. The hosts were exceptional, offering restaurant and activity suggestions, and made us feel very welcome during our stay.

About the host
Hosted by Susan Farr
Hermanus Estate, the name, was for one of the most beautiful places I visited - Hermanus, South Africa, where the water and views were breathtaking. I, Ken Hopper, have resided on this property since 1998 and thoroughly enjoy every minute of it. His wife, Susan, joined him in 2013. The Caretakers, John and Sue, have resided here for over 14 years; if you have any questions while at Hermanus, please get in touch with them. They reside on the other side of the Carriage House apartment.
Before Hermanus, the property was called "No Kaire." The previous owners, Jay and Gay Mahoney, loved and developed this property into its present style. Both loved the Asian culture as depicted. Even the main house is shaped like a bird, typical of a Japanese summer home. As you walk along the pathways, you will find a large koi pond with a waterfall; however, the pond is currently out of service (under repair). The Carriage House indicates the Asian culture where you will stay.
Being a host brings joy to the caretakers and the owners, as each family that stays with us is unique and special. We learn from each other. It is a joy to learn!
We accept dogs only. If your dog is over 20 lbs, please email us to let us know your dog's breed and weight prior to your booking. So far, we have had dogs up to 125 lbs.
Why they chose this property
Hermanus is in the center of year-round activities: Gore Mountain, Chestertown, North Creek, Friends Lake, Schroon Lake, Loon Lake, Adirondacks, Americade, World University Games, FISU, Bolton Landing, and Warrensburg, which is the host to the World's Largest Garage Sale. You may be as busy as you wish with activities, or relax in nature. It is all up to you! An abundance of activities awaits you: skiing, rafting, biking, hiking the High Peaks, water skiing, snowmobiling, boating, etc.
On the property: - Screened Gazebo by the stone wall. - Small fire pit, "Overlook," the river and mountains - midway down the scenic driveway. - By the river, an enormous fire pit with the ability to go swimming or walk across the Hudson River. - Heated ski storage. - Walking/Hiking paths on the 25 acres or along the pathways onto the adjacent property, where you will see deer, bears, and other animals.
Each season has its own characteristics, such as spring and summer gardens, fall foliage, winter ice flows, and multiple walking pathways throughout the year. Bring your snowshoes! In the summer, sit and relax by or in the private waters of the Hudson River or visit a productive nearby fishing hole.
What makes this property unique
Picturesque, peaceful, and relaxing in nature, we pride ourselves on cleanliness.
We are centrally located between Saratoga Springs and Lake Placid, 14 miles from Lake George or Gore Mountain.
Hermanus has a fantastic history, and the estate is near so many adventurous wonders that your spirit may desire. Take a day trip to Lake Placid or Saratoga Springs. You never know where the next page will turn, and you may want to return to Hermanus season after season to view the wonders of nature, be venturesome, or sit by the fire and read an excellent novel.
