Enchanting private getaway on bucolic south end of Lopez Island
Nestled among towering fir trees and overlooking the Salish Sea, this spacious house is perfect for families seeking an extended stay near many of Lopez Island’s top attractions. Walkers, runners, and bikers will love the route from the house along the coast to majestic Iceberg Point. The stunning beaches at Watmough and Hughes Bays are also very close. Kayakers and paddleboarders will appreciate the sheltered waters of MacKaye Harbor. The Southend Market and Café is a walk away, as is a public boat launch/dock and beach.
The large, three story house offers places for everyone to gather or find quiet moments of solitude. Almost every room has a beautiful view of MacKaye Harbor through the trees. The vaulted ceiling and comfortable seating of the great room make it ideal for the whole group to gather. The smart TV and sizeable DVD collection make for a perfect movie night.
The sunsets from the dining area are incredible, and on clear nights you can see the lights of Victoria, B.C. in the distance.
Lopez Island restaurants are wonderful, but the kitchen is fully equipped for you to take advantage of the locally raised meat, eggs and produce found at nearby farmstands. Extras include a popcorn popper, ice cream maker and several ways to make coffee. A covered cedar deck is accessed from the dining area, perfect for morning coffee while listening to the lapping waves below.
Each bedroom has a desk by the window for inspiration and comfy seating for reading. The mattresses are all relatively new and comfortable. Two bedrooms have queen beds, and the third has two sets of bunk beds. There are bathrooms on the main and upper floors. Both have a tub/shower and dual sinks. The washer and dryer are conveniently located on the main floor.
The game room on the lower level has a a foosball table, a mini ping pong table, a bubble hockey arcade game, and more. There’s also a second TV viewing area with leather sectional, DVD player and Xbox 360 with games.
Connectivity is notoriously tough on Lopez Island. This house provides the best internet service available to this location. The wifi works well enough for streaming movies or Zoom calls. In our experience, cell reception on the property is good for T-Mobile users but not great for other providers.
Outside you’ll find a comfortable seating area around a large fire pit, with firewood sourced from the property. You’re not legally required to roast marshmallows, but we strongly advise it. There are bikes and kayaks for your use.
We want to make an extended stay work for you. Have a small pet you’d like us to consider? Not see an amenity you were hoping for? Let us know!
A road runs by the property, so there can be a little vehicle noise. The steep hill and foliage hide much of the road and there are no other houses nearby, so it still feels very private.

We enjoyed our second year renting this property for a month. Fabulous view looking at the beach and MacKaye harbor through the trees, especially at sunset. Great house particularly for families with kids. James is a fantastic host, very flexible and willing to accommodate requests.

Sharon and Mark, thank you for taking such good care of the house during your stay, and leaving it in such a clean condition. And thank you for the additions to the puzzle library! :)

We loved staying in this beautiful place that felt like home right away. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was perfect for cooking . The views were wonderful. The games in the basement were so fun for all our grandkids and adults. The property is so pretty to wonder and fire pit area is great for s’mores after a day biking the island. It’s truly a special place.
James and Nina really go above and beyond for their guests! I loved this cozy home tucked in the trees with views of the ocean and cool cool breezes! It was only my partner and I but this would be a great place for a family! I enjoyed riding my bike to Iceberg point everyday and going for a beautiful hike! We will be back!

About the host
Hosted by James Andrews
Hi, I’m Nina and I own this home. I currently live in Seattle. My son-in-law, James, lives one block away from me and manages all aspects of renting this house. We only rent it to 2-3 families a year so that we can enjoy it too!
Hi, I’m James! Our family has been coming to Lopez for 10+ years…tent camping, camper-vanning, renting multiple houses…and now we’re lucky to have a home! Lopez attracts some wonderful people—especially when it comes to long-term renting. We’ve been lucky to meet some wonderful people from other parts of the country.
Why they chose this property
Orcas and SJI are great, but Lopez has always been our top choice. The flatter topography makes for wonderful biking and farming. Surprisingly, and in our opinion, the beaches are nicer than one the other islands. The island feels sunnier and more open. It’s a more intimate community and environment. Our proximity to Iceberg Point and the Southend Market and sheltered kayaking is great, but honestly all of Lopez feels like it’s part of one neighborhood.
What makes this property unique
If there’s one thing, it’s the perfect balance between big, beautiful trees and still lots of sun that pours through. None of the neighboring homes are close—it provides a lot of privacy.
