Welcome to this charming, newly updated, waterfront cabin! This delightful Lopez Island home snuggles into a hillside covered with old-growth conifer trees and sculptural Madronas. Klahowya features mesmerizing blue water vistas across Thatcher Pass toward Blakely Island, and on a clear day you will see the snow-covered cone of Mount Baker in the distance. You will also enjoy watching the parade of boats headed from Anacortes to the Islands that pass by the windows as well as the shimmering reflection of the Washington State Ferry as it glides by on a regular schedule.

Warm colors, knotty pine, and tasteful furnishings create a comfortable island style in this home. All main rooms focus toward the fabulous views, including the two bedrooms, each with a queen-sized bed, one on the main level and one on the lower level. The lower level bedroom also offers a gas fireplace, TV in the sitting area, and private deck - the perfect place to watch the eagles soar overhead. The kitchen is well equipped with a gas range and new appliances and there are added contemporary benefits of satellite TV, located in the lower larger bedroom only, and wireless internet service.

You will find Klahowya to be a quiet, restful place that is perfect for an Island getaway in all seasons. It is located only 200 yards from the Upright Head Nature Preserve where you can hike and maybe find the eagles nest! In addition, this house is only a mile from Odlin State Park, where you will find a great beach, public dock, and boat launch. Being close to the ferry landing, this home is also a great spot for those who arrive via bicycle.

Perfect location, easy to walk to the ferry and back, the bike rentals drop off right by the vrbo. Great to sit out on the deck and chill. Loved everything about it. Will definitely be back!

Wondrous!

From the moment we walked in, to the time we (sadly) left, we loved our stay. A bald eagle visited us on our first night while we had dinner. Every morning, we sat in awe at the sunrise over water. A slice of heaven.

Room with a view!

The deck views clinched the deal for us. A modest home just right for 4 adults provided just the right amount of space and amenities for our stay designed to be more out than inside. Bed was amazingly comfortable for this finicky customer! The kitchen is well stocked almost to a fault. You will have to make room for your groceries but every container, utensil, appliance you could want! Proximity to the ferry is incredibly close but not problematic. Handy for lining up for departures. Photos are accurate in posting.

Only comment is it is inconvenient not having a bathroom downstairs with the main bedroom, especially if you had four people in the house. I suspect there is a downstairs bathroom that is locked by the owners. If there is, and it was opened, we would be back.

Gorgeous views, great location, charming home!

We loved our stay in this wonderful home overlooking the water. The views from both the upper and lower levels were spectacular. It was tempting to spend our entire trip just sitting on the decks with a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at night. The fully stocked kitchen, immaculate bathroom and two comfortable bedrooms - one equipped with a fireplace added to the enjoyment. Being so close to the ferry proved very convenient. We could walk on to visit the other islands or get our car in line and then scoot back to the house until it was time to board. There's also a lovely trail with water and mountain views just across the road. It's really an ideal location. We did venture into the town which is just a 10 minute drive away. One tip is that the "driveway" that you are looking for is really close to the ferry exit and more of a parking pad. You blink and you miss it. I'd advise arriving in daylight if this is your first time visiting. We are tempted to make our stay a yearly event.

Delightful view and cozy stay

A wonderful week, even better than we expected. Gorgeous views from the porch~ sun, water, birdwatching, wildlife. Very well appointed kitchen, comfortable beds, easy ferry access and walks to the parks. We were worried about being that close to the ferry because of noise but hardly noticed it. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. Grill a great plus, management quick to respond to queries.

It is a very easy place to feel comfortable with a wonderful kitchen.

Pricey....but comfortable.

No doubt the view is amazing but at the cost of ferry traffic announcements and horn..if you need a landing base after day hiking, biking, and island hopping this is a great spot to get in line for the ferry without the hassle of being in your car for an hour or more especially as the ferries tend to run late and inconsistent. We were able to chill on the deck and wait it out with our great view and a coffee while leaving our car in line and we island hopped most days. If I were planning on just relaxing at the house, I would find another home especially at this price point. While comfortable, it is an older home that has “some” remodeling done. We came into the home with a terrible amount of mildew from damp throw rugs that we tried to wash but to no avail. The mildew was strong so we just left them on the deck in the sun and used towels as floor rugs in the one bathroom. We left a note for rental agency to get new rugs and hope they will for future renters that may have asthma. This may seem silly, but made for an uncomfortable first night until we figured it out. Note there’s only one bathroom and it’s upstairs from the master. The sleeper couch is also in the master bedroom so if you’re planning to use it for a party of four or five, you’ll have a room guest is the master with you. I must’ve assumed it was the living room couch but even so, it was comfortable and we did enjoy our stay. It gets very warm in the house during the day in July and august so some ceiling or room fans would help with climate control as the cross breeze comes from the Sea and there’s no screen on bathroom window or front door And kitchen window opens house to ferry noise/traffic. Overall, a good stay with minor concerns but for the cost expected a bit higher quality....

Great location, wonderful views, fine dinning on Lopez, the rental house was perfect for the three of us. Many highlights, but one of the best was hearing the whales blow late one evening while sitting on the deck. Awesome!

Smoky anniversary stay

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was our second visit to the San Jauns and our first to Lopez Island. Unfortunately, we were there during the week of heavy smoke from nearby forest fires. Staying at Klahowya, though, was a pleasure. The outdoor space alone makes it worth renting. While the description of the place is listed as "upscale," it is absolutely not. Comfortable, cozy, and convenient are better words to describe the home. The furnishings are showing some wear and tear and the house could use at least one king size bed. And as long as you don't mind being in the middle of ferry traffic lining up several times a day, it couldn't have been more convenient and private the rest of the time. We were there to celebrate our 35th anniversary, and it was one of the best anniversaries we've ever had! Yes, we would recommend but keep in mind that it is not a perfect house by any means.
