We need to know their BREED, WEIGHT (we allow typically under 50 pounds of total pet weight, but ask us if larger), AGE (No puppies) and the PET COUNT (generally we allow 1, but if they are very small maybe two). We have a per PET FEE between $10/night and $35/night depending how big the pet is. We require agreement to use a PET CRATE if you ever leave them in the house. Pets are not allowed on or in beds or on furniture. We don't allow any pets when the cabin is at maximum human person count.
THE CABIN IS IN THE MOUNTAINS: The driving approach to the cabin requires that you are comfortable driving up and down small gravel roads in the woods. Our cabin is on a county maintained gravel road that is fine for all cars Spring, Summer and Fall. During winter please come prepared for driving potentially on snowy roads and be certain you can take care of yourselves and car (snowchains, or AWD, or 4x4 are the best options). In the event of a winter storm during your stay we will instruct you on where your vehicles will be placed for your safety, this may involve a short walk from that location to the cabin door. WIFI - Your internet is Satellite based. That means it has a delay and is NOT ideal for 2 way or streaming communication such ZOOM or Netflix. During a storm the weather can cloud out the connection and your WiFi may degrade. We have had guests work just fine keeping up with email for example, but we point this out as there are no buried cables or fiber on our remote properties and weather can be an issue. So if its a huge requirement to stream video then we may not be the cabin for you.
CABIN LICENSE: We are providing you a License to use our Cabin similar to that of renting a car, as a licensee you are bound to the cabin rules at all times, and you forgo the rights of a "lease" or "tenant". Violations of our cabin rules can result in your immediate removal from our cabin, by renting our cabin you agree to these terms. If you'd like a full copy of the license please let us know in advance and one will be provided to you.

This is a beautiful property! Chris was extremely communicative and easy to work with. Property was exactly as described, and everything was in perfect working order. Such a wonderful stay! I highly recommend property and the hosts.
cabin was very nice and well equipped… Clean and tidy. Views are amazing and we loved the hot tub. Very secluded and quiet. We’ll definitely stay here again.
The house was very clean and well stocked. The views were phenomenal. The roads leading to the house were a little tricky but nothing that would prevent us from staying there again.
The views were exactly as advertised - absolutely stunning! Very quiet and peaceful. The weather was perfect, total relaxation I would definitely book again.
The house is in a beautiful serene setting. It is such a peaceful place tucked away in the woods with the amazing mountain views we were looking for. It is located close to Blowing Rock and Boone. The host is very responsive and helpful. The place was clean and I loved the heated light bulbs and hot water. I would definitely come back! It snowed one day too! Thank you!
We had a great stay during peak leaf season! We enjoyed the views off the deck, the hot tub, and the fire place. Would stay again!

Everything was great! Comfort, clean, above and beyond. Excellent view to. Vacation can be had here alone. Only thing vrbo had inaccuracy on their end. There is now dishwasher. They managers of this stay were ready and willing to help us so it was no problem. Would definitely stay again!
The cabin is perfect! Exactly as described, very clean and comfortable! Loved the fireplace and the view is just gorgeous! We would definitely stay here again!
This property was truly so beautiful, clean and amazing views of the mountains! Had great communication with owner and genuinely cares about guests and their experiences.
Views are hard to beat, and home has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. The road in is veryyy steep with sharp turns so keep that in mind when choosing which vehicle to take. Highly recommend!
The view is gorgeous but be prepared, you will definitely need a all-wheel drive vehicle to make it to this location but it's worth it!

Hi all … First thanks for your review. Second, we require 4x4 only during the winter which is when this guest visited us! About April 1st until December 1st we have no snow and ice, and we get 2 wheel drive cars of all types to the cabin as the gravel road is maintained by the county. Please read our description, if a secluded cabin in the woods with fabulous views and a hot tub is for you… then message us and come see us!
This was our second stay at the Secret Shack and we can’t say enough good things. Chris is an amazing host and everything was better than expected. Many upgrades since our last stay including new furniture, appliances, and a gas fireplace were fantastic. The view is amazing and so cool to wake up to in the master bedroom. Plenty of towels and the bed linens are super comfortable. The hot tub is a nice touch as many smaller properties lack this. We’d give more stars if we could and would love to visit again!
Cabin had fantastic views. It was so peaceful and pleasant to sit on the deck for morning coffee and evening sundowns. The bedroom with expansive window facing the mountains was an added bonus! We really enjoyed our getaway!
This cozy cabin nestled in the woods provided a perfect escape from city life. The rustic charm, with its fireplace, created a warm and inviting atmosphere. The kitchen was well-equipped. The highlight was definitely the deck, where we spent evenings stargazing and enjoying the peaceful sounds of nature

About the host

Living out here in the mountains of North Carolina amongst our cabins has been a fantastic result of the Pandemic (every cloud has a silver lining) for myself and my wife Carlie. We are here most of the time, and when we are not we are off on our own adventure either hiking some mountain, sailing or biking.
Why they chose this property
Your own piece of paradise, set deep in the woods with views of the mountains and gorge of Blowing Rock that can not be matched! We always ask "Why would you stay in town when all this is 8 minutes away".
