THE SPACE
Your chalet is tucked into the forest atop Yockum Hill and includes 3.5 acre acres of land to explore. This includes an acre of grassy hillside for stargazing, cooking s’mores or sledding in the winter. The remainder of the property is woodland. From the chalet you may ride your ATV on all roads from Memorial Day until Labor Day, and snowmobile during the winter. There's even an attached garage with overhead doors on each end so you can drive your ATV or snowmobile in one side and pull out the other.
There is a gravel parking lot spacious enough for 6+ vehicles or trailers. The attached garage is accessible to you during your stay.
Entering from the side of the home, you will find the laundry area, and a space for coats and shoes. Next you’ll pass through the kitchen which has been fully stocked with the cookware you’ll want to keep your fellow guests well fed.
As you explore the kitchen, your attention will be drawn to the great room by the floor to ceiling stone fireplace and the majestic mountain views pouring through the ten large windows. The pellet stove is easily operated and provides a wonderful radiant heat sufficient to warm the entire first and second floor. There is no AC in the home, but there are two large ceiling fans in the great room, and three oscillating fans provided.
In the great room you’ll find an open floor plan that includes a dining table with seating for 10, a sitting room surrounding the fireplace, and an entertainment space with a 55” smart TV for streaming all your favorite shows and movies.
All of the bedrooms are located on the back half of the home where the shade of the forest will help keep you cool on those warm summer days. There is a large bedroom on the first floor with a queen bed, a large built in shelving unit for clothing and a closet. The second floor has another large bedroom with a queen bed and a third bedroom with a bunk bed setup. The bunk bed includes a full size lower bed and a single lofted bed. In the basement there is a full size mattress inside a pullout couch.
In the basement you’ll find a pool table, vintage 60’s Rockola Jukebox which plays 45s, and another seating area with a pullout couch. There’s another pellet stove to keep you comfortable and two more sliding doors giving you access to the lower deck.

I highly recommend staying at the Mountain Vista Chalet. I visited with my 2 nephews for the purpose of star gazing. Although the Mountain Vista Chalet is only a few minutes from Cherry Springs Park, the view of the stars from the Mountain Vista Chalet deck was so good that we never went to the park. The accommodations were clean, modern and spacious and views from the deck, even during the day when we weren't star gazing were awesome. The hosts, Ben and Thanh, communicated, in a timely and detailed guidebook, everything we needed for our stay. Also, we ran into an issue with our car on the check-out day (a flat tire) which delayed our check-out past the required time, and Ben and Thanh graciously allowed us the time we needed to get the tire fixed before we checked out. I highly recommend this place and if I ever come back to the area for star gazing, the Mountain Vista Chalet will be my choice for the place to stay!
The house was big and beautiful with excellent views of the mountain range, even just from the windows. It is located in a central location to every activity we planned to do. In particular, we went to stargaze at Cherry Springs State Park. It is only a 12 minute drive to the park from the house. The house had plenty of furniture and entertainment. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of pillows and blankets for our crew.
Perfect experience! The chalet is wonderful and Ben and Thanh are excellent hosts. We had a minor glitch with the lock at check-in and Ben was easy to reach and resolved it immediately. The home is beautiful, clean, and comfortable. We relaxed by the fire, grilled, stargazed, visited the PA Grand Canyon, and explored Wellsboro. Views are great and the chalet is filled with games and movies if you decide to just stay in. We left our kids with grandparents for a weekend getaway, but they would have loved it as well. Highly recommend!
Absolutely amazing stay. Beautiful panoramic views of the hills and the night sky. The house itself is so cozy and really nice. 10 min drive to Cherry Springs with views that rival what you see at the park itself. Great hosts as well, promptly communicate and also provided a lot of great info on nearby attractions! 10/10 would come stay again!
We had a wonderful time staying at Ben and Thanh’s place. Very secluded and very close to Cherry Hill State Park. While the park provided the best stargazing, we could still see so much right from our deck! The house was warm and welcoming and provided everything we needed. We will definitely be back. Thank you so much!
The place was beautiful , BUT the no AC in July definitely took a toll on us. They CLEARLY stated that there was no AC in the house on the listing. This was not a surprise. I just assumed that with no AC the house stayed reasonably cool and wasn’t needed. That unfortunately wasn’t the case. The house was incredibly hot and we really struggled to get any Airflow through the house. I think some screens on the double sliding doors would really help with that. Given that we saw a black bear on the drive in, and there are obviously a lot of bugs in nature, we didn’t want to just leave the doors wide open with no screen. It was so hot the second night, we had to sleep in the basement on chairs and couches. It was a little rough. I really don’t like leaving negative reviews because the hosts were awesome and they really took care of the house, it was amazing! I just personally wouldn’t go back in summer for the reasons I listed above. I would absolutely, 100%, rent this house again in the fall, winter or spring. You wouldn’t even need to go to Cherry Springs, the views from the deck were breathtaking on their own!! Again, I hate to leave something “negative” about the house when the hosts so clearly put their heart and soul into it. I just also want to prepare people if they’re going there in summer. It’s no joke, that’s all. Thank you Ben for sharing your home with us and all future travelers, enjoy, the house is incredible!!
Was a beautiful home nestled against the woods, it had everything we needed. We enjoyed sitting outside on the deck at night viewing the stars, and we actually heard Elk bugling. The host was helpful and responded to all my questions. We loved it!!
The views are amazing! The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The pool table, jukebox and dvd/vcr playerwere great entertainment and very much appreciated. This property wasn't stuffy that you felt you couldn't relax and enjoy...also the hosts were quick to respond at answering any questions and provided a great home to enjoy.
We love the location and the property! It's a great place to unwind and spend time with family. You can't find a better stargazing location in the region than Cherry Springs, and we loved that the property was only a ten minute drive.
House was perfect for the three families. Location is great and the property had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it.
Had a great time during our stay. You can see tons of starts from the deck when the sky is clear. Beautiful views. House has something for everyone. Very clean and cozy. Owners very responsive. Would def stay again.
Beautiful cabin in a gorgeous setting that did not disappoint. Quiet and relatively private, we really enjoyed our stay. Cabin was as advertised, clean, spacious and well supplied with the kitchen essentials. We loved it!
The house has everything you need for a relaxing stay in the country. While the weather didn’t cooperate for us to do any star gazing it was still a great place to relax by the fire (pellet stove) and do nothing for a few days.

About the host
Hosted by Ben Fitzkee
My partner Thanh and I have been vacationing in Potter county for 10 years. Our first love was the stars, and the serenity that surrounded us. Over the years we’ve found this land has so much more to offer, and we continue to discover more each year. Hosting people brings us so much joy, and we’d be honored to share the experience of Potter county with you and your loved ones.
