Response from VrboOwner on 10 Dec, 2022
(I never like being blunt or negative online, but I must respond). It is always disappointing when a guest has a problem during a visit, and I would have appreciated the opportunity to correct it when it occurred. Katty saw a mouse, that it was a very bad experience and she wanted a full 100% refund for her entire stay. We live just down the road from this home, make ourselves available, and it would have been my pleasure to come over and respond but she did not give me that opportunity. I explained that this community and region is in the middle of the woods, and Wolf Laurel is surrounded by National Forest, and yep the homes could get a field mouse. I don’t control the wildlife around here, even though we do have regular pest control at this home. I was shocked that she was asking me for a 100% refund, and trying to leverage me for a total refund, especially considering she had visited for several nights.
When Katty messaged me, and said the home was “beautiful and clean but we saw a mouse”, she was pretty aggressive about a 100% total refund. Of course that was not a fair ask by her, but we did provide refund for the one day she saw a mouse, hundreds of dollars refunded. Then after all that, she messaged me to say she left a very expensive electronic device and wanted me to ship it immediately. She was again very aggressive, to the point her husband took over communications, and I was grateful to coordinate shipping with him. We are 30 minutes from the closest UPS store, it cost me time and money to do this for her, and as a great host it was my pleasure to return the items she left behind.
I elected not to give her the “host perspective review” last week, when I had the window to share my negative experiences, instead I let go of my bad experience with her. As my mom always said, if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything and I let the negative experience go. After she stayed in an immaculate and amazing home for several nights, all the effort by me and my team, before, during, and after her visit, for her to give me 1 star is not nice or fair. I am shocked and disappointed and seems like a revenge rating and not reflective of her visit. I did not enjoy any of my interactions with Katty, do not recommend her as a guest and fair warning to all hosts, avoid her. I never like having to respond with ugly truths, but I will never host her again and give you fair warning.
The cabin was nice and they provided the basics so you don’t have to buy all the little things like laundry detergent or spices for cooking. The listing said there was a room with two double beds but that was not accurate. Thankfully we had looked through photos and brought an air mattress just in case. The resort is nice but renters aren’t allowed to participate in special activities like bingo. We were allowed to utilize the courts and the swimming pool though which were all really nice. The resort itself is on a mountain and one of our cars had trouble getting up the driveway even while it was normal conditions. They do advise 4x4 so take heed of that because it’s definitely needed. The cabin itself was nice and updated. It didn’t have central heat or air but they do provide wall units and plug in heaters as well as a fireplace which we did not use. Overall we were happy with our stay and would recommend this cabin if you are looking to get away from towns for awhile. Also if you get motion sick easily be aware that the roads are very winding and most of us felt sick at one point or another because we weren’t used to that.
