Gooseberry Lodge is one of most well-kept, traveler-and-pet-friendly homes I've stayed in. So many amenities and "huh, they thought of that!" touches. Headlamp hanging on the front door coat rack. A boot dryer. Dog food/water bowls sitting out. A high-strung dog run cable in the yard. Make-up towels in the bathrooms. Balsam fir sachets throughout the house (man, the smell ). Books and board games galore. Kindling for the woodstove. Probably the best-stocked kitchen I've seen in a rental home. The only outright "problem" during our stay (September 2026) was a non-functioning vent hood in the kitchen. At least for us, the buttons wouldn't stay "clicked" so the light/fan stayed on.And operationally, things were a bit confusing: there were multiple sets of "house rules" between emails and the paper binder in the home; one email said to pickup the key from Lake Placid, another email said go straight to the home and self-checkin. But altogether, these were *very* minor points compared against the thoughtful and relaxing experience available with Gooseberry Lodge - we'd love to stay again!
