About this property

Hudson Valley Apartment in a Historic Farmhouse w/ Sauna Near Stone Ridge Hamlet

Wood-fired sauna and private outdoor space shape the experience here, with direct access just outside the door. Set in a 1920 Hudson Valley farmhouse in Stone Ridge, this first-floor apartment is designed to be easy to use and comfortable to settle into from the moment you arrive.

The space is private, with its own entrance, and arranged with a simple, practical layout. Inside, you’ll find a comfortable living area centered around a propane stove, a functional kitchen, and a bedroom positioned for rest. We use highest quality Casper mattress so you can enjoy restful night of sleep. Everything is set up so you don’t have to think about how to use it — you can just move in and get on with your stay.

Inside the apartment, details are kept practical and intentional. The place has a rustic feel but the amenities kept updated and modern. The kitchen is set up for regular use. Complimentary coffee and tea selection is high quality. Toiletries are premium and hand picked from top notch organic spa quality brand. We do not cut corners on the high quality products to offer to our guests! The focus is on making daily routines feel enjoyable, smooth so you can spend more time enjoying the area.

What makes this place work especially well is how naturally the indoor and outdoor areas connect. You can step outside to the stone patio, spend time in the backyard, or use the sauna at your own pace. It’s a setup that supports a clear rhythm to the day — time outside, time to reset, and a warm, quiet space to come back to.

The location adds another layer to the experience. You’re positioned at the junction of Cooper Street and Main Street, right at the start of Stone Ridge’s historic corridor. From here, you can walk or drive into a hamlet defined by early stone buildings, small institutions, and a layout that has remained largely intact over time.

Within a short drive, you can reach High Falls and the canal-era locks, explore nearby farm roads and open landscapes, or head into the Gunks for hiking. At the same time, Stone Ridge itself remains quiet and low-key, with a small number of restaurants, local spots, and a pace that feels closer to everyday life than a tourist center.

This home is part of Dream House in the Gunks, a small collection of places developed with a focus on how a stay actually feels. Each space is prepared with care so guests can settle in comfortably and have a consistent, reliable experience.

It works as a simple, well-located base: a comfortable place to stay with direct outdoor access, set in a historic Hudson Valley hamlet with easy access to the surrounding region.

It was a cozy and peaceful home to stay a night myself. Since my phone didn't have a phone service there I couldn't open the site to look through check in on site. Thankfully upstair guests helped me out to get wifi password. I came in in the dark so It took me a little bit to find out the entrance door sticks so I had to push pretty hard to open. It was a last minute booking so I was not so prepared to take a picture of check in process and kept with me. Otherwise it was a cozy and beautiful old house filled with night cozy lights and beautiful backyard to relax in my favorite Hudson Valley for the day.

The property was much larger than expected with 2 sitting areas which provided quiet for reading while my partner used his iPad. (Just a note, there is no tv).The host paid attention to details with lights and candles lit for our arrival, making the property feel homey. The property was clean and the kitchen well stocked with dishes, utensils, microwave, coffee press, beans, grinder, etc. We didn't cook much as there are ample food venues in the area, including a few that are walkable. (Such a charming town). We enjoyed sitting in the outside patio area with friends after a long day of exploring. There is much to see within an hour including many historic homes. We did have a rocky start to our stay only because of inconsiderate guests above us. I didn't realize our host would be available in the middle of the night to take care of the noise issue so I did not contact them until the following day. They were very responsive and apologetic and told me I could have contacted them. They also were very responsive with issues I had while booking and attempting to enter the property (the door sometime sticks). Mary became aware that I was having issues entering and spoke to me through a speaker on the porch. Aaron and Mary are awesome as property supporters. The parking area does not offer a turn around and you do need to back out of the driveway. It was only an issue during the morning school/work rush.We very much enjoyed our visit.

The home was clean and comfortable for our stay. We spent a lot of time exploring the region, so we didn't spend much time in the home. However, there were just a few items that we would suggest for safety reasons: a safety bar in the bathtub and a non-slip mat or something similar at the bottom of the tub. Some of the stones on the front path from the drive are loose. The people who were in the upstairs apartment had a dog which we saw with them on the patio and also heard bark one night that we all were there.

Perfect location for visiting Hudson Valley family. We grew up rurally and appreciate the nice rural quiet stay. Clean and neat. Liked the old house.

The hose is really cute and decorated well, however we were put off by the smell of the water. My family refused to even wash with it. We had to go to the store for bottled water and shower at a friend's house. Also the bedding needed to be laundered. I emailed the owner about these problems and did not hear back.

Inaccurate discription

There was a bit of confusion over booking an extra night but I honestly do feel as though that was a miscommunication. Unfortunately, the ad stated it was wheelchair accessible which it is not. I have mobility issues and this is not the place for that. Steep driveway, stones loose walking to the front door, and steep stairs outside. The house was advertised as having a washing machine which it did not have. I have a toddler and it made the trip so intensely stressful. We had to rent a car - something we weren’t going to do since we were in walking distance of restaurants, a library, and a cafe. Lastly, it was advertised as having a fenced yard. This also was not the case and the front yard is on an extremely busy road. This again, was difficult with a toddler. We had to end our trip early to find a place with these ammenities. It made everything more stressful and expensive- two things you don’t want a getaway to result in.

If you’re planning to stay here, there are two important things to know BEFORE you get there. Firstly, there is a good chance you won’t get reception anywhere near this town. Get your check in instructions with the WiFi info and door code before you drive into town. Secondly, the water here smells rotten eggs. This is true for the sinks and the shower. You don’t feel clean after showering or washing r your hands after using the bathroom. We brought in our own 2 gallon tanks of water from the grocery store. We also noticed that there’s a sink faucet with what we believe was filtered water in the kitchen, but we didn’t see this mentioned anywhere. The unit also has only shear curtains in most of the rooms. This means that at night, there’s no privacy besides the town’s small population because you can see through the whole unit from the outside. Lastly, the bed was sagging for the first two nights we stayed there before I checked and saw the bed was not fully assembled. I managed to find a second bolt to hand tighten the middle support into place so the bed would not sag. It didn’t cause us too much issue, but there is a neighborhood rooster who seems to scream at all hours of the night, even when we left for our flight at 3am.

What a sweet place!

We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay in this comfortable, relaxing space. I wish we were there for more than one night. The instructions for the fireplace are actually on a metal plate under the unit and is not controlled by the thermostat as mentioned in the welcome message. The heater in the living area was a little loud.

About the host

Host profile image
Welcome to Dream House in the Gunks. I’m Serg, the host behind these homes. I’ve been welcoming guests to the Hudson Valley and the Shawangunk region for many years, and hospitality has become a big part of my life. Over time I’ve learned that what people really appreciate when they travel is not something fancy — it’s a place that feels thoughtful, calm, clean, and genuinely cared for. While I’m personally involved in preparing and improving the homes, I’m not doing it alone. We have a small local team that helps take care of the properties and support guests during their stay. Many members of the team have been working with us for years and take pride in making sure everything runs smoothly. Our goal is simple: create places where people can relax, explore the mountains and countryside around the Gunks, and enjoy their time in the Hudson Valley.

Why they chose this property

A lot of small details were thought out for the guests to be comfortable, to cook meals, enjoy fresh high quality morning coffee and enjoy the place. The place is a beautiful historical house in Stone Ridge and near tourists attractions, restaurants, and hikes. House is a part of historical heritage of Stone Ridge and used to belong to a local blacksmith and possibly Mr Cooper himself who had his shop set up on the first floor. We are serious about the cleanliness and service, ready to go the extra step to make sure that guests enjoy their stay. We also keep improving and updating the place all the time.
