The Rock Stack: Ruggedly luxurious 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom on the Llano River
Located on over an acre of barely-tamed land on the gorgeous Llano River, the Rock Stack is a ruggedly luxurious vacation destination. We’re a place for both the fisherman and the boutique shopper, the explorer and the book-worm, the adults-only getaway and the family-friendly vacation.
About the House: The Rock Stack is built from giant two-foot thick limestone rocks which make it a truly unique and fun place to stay. The house is roughly 1600 SF and has three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and two large outdoor patios. Two bedrooms are downstairs with king-size beds and ensuite bathrooms (one bathroom opens up into the bedroom and hallway). The third bedroom is located upstairs and has two extra-long twin beds as well as two fold-up twin mattresses that can be brought out for floor sleeping. The floor mattresses are obviously best for kiddos but by all accounts, they’re actually quite comfortable even for adults. There is a third bathroom and a second living room also upstairs. Please note that the upstairs is essentially an open concept area. The bedroom does not have a door to close it off from the bathroom and living area. The bathroom does have a door. The downstairs living room has a three-person genuine leather sofa as well as seating for four. There is also a 58” smart TV. The kitchen is also downstairs. It features full-size appliances (electric oven range, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator with water dispenser, and freezer with ice maker) as well as beautiful concrete countertops and custom-made cabinetry. We offer a fully-stocked kitchen with all pots, pans, and tools needed to fix meals. The house also has a stackable washer and dryer available for use during your stay.
The River: We’re located on the banks of the clear and cool Llano river with over one hundred feet of private access. The Llano River, at our location, is over 100 yards wide and offers endless opportunities to roam and explore, either by kayak (we offer two adult kayaks and three child kayaks) or by foot. At the edge of our property is a small but fast-flowing fork of the river that is knee-deep to thigh-deep depending upon the time of year. It’s roughly thirty feet wide. This fork is an awesome spot to plant our river chairs and sit back and relax or watch your little-people play in the water and throw the rocks. For the more adventurous though, a quick walk over or a quick swim around the rock island will lead to “The Lake.” The Lake is a deep hole of the river approximately seventy yards wide by one hundred yards long. It’s the perfect spot to kayak and fish. If you prefer to explore on-foot, the rock island will lead you upstream for nearly a mile with one-of-a-kind views of the Llano. If you’re looking for a place to get out and explore some barely-touched Texas country, this is the place!
Llano and Castel: The town of Llano is approximately ten miles east of our location while Castel is ten miles west. Llano is like a mini-up-and-coming-Fredericksburg with a vibrant main-street, wonderful food including up-scale options and award-winning BBQ, distilleries, bars, and breweries. In addition, we often say, “There’s always something happening in Llano” as they do a wonderful job of putting on a variety of festivals, concerts, and other events throughout the year. Castel is a general store and that’s about it. But that general store serves up some great BBQ, burgers, and puts on some really fun events throughout the year.

Had a wonderful time! This was such a nice property. Clean, comfy, and open. Friendly, helpful, and communicative hosts. The house was beautiful and clean and the proximity to the river was so nice. We booked this house so my husband could do the Central Texas showdown bike race and we later found out the bike race rode right in front of the house so that was really cool. Only negative was the burrs in the grass but that's nature and if you stayed on the path it was minimal. Just check your shoes before you come inside. We loved it here and we plan to return in the future! My three year old kept asking if we could move to the river house. Thank you for a wonderful stay
This house is so gorgeous and unique. My family and I really enjoyed staying here. The River access is amazing!!! And the host was fantastic!!! We will be back for sure!!!
The house and grounds were lovely. We enjoyed our time inside and out. Each time I had a question, I was answered quickly. The hospitality of the property manager was outstanding
Cozy home, very nice stone house. Perfect upstairs for the kiddos. Nice back porch for everyone to relax on and hangout. The river was a short walk across a little hill and a good swimming hole on the river right by the home. Definitely woild recommend.

Thank you so much for your review! I would like to add that we now have a bridge so there’s no more walking across the “little hill!” Thanks again and we hope you’re able to come stay again some time!
The house is absolutely adorable and the decorative details are great. The top floor is almost its own apartment so it’s great for 2 families or a large family. The river was high and fast because of rain but still very relaxing and beautiful. Sitting on the top deck was our favorite part. Would definitely come back!

Liked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
The Rock Stack is a beautiful home in a great location. We highly recommend and would visit again but for one significant downside. The house itself is beautifully decorated. We loved the interior decor and the solid rock walls are really cool. The location is great and the outdoor spaces lend themselves to quiet relaxation. The river itself is gorgeous and so fun to explore. Now on to the one significant downside - the showers. This is an area where unfortunately the aesthetic got prioritized over function and guest comfort. All three showers are identical and consist of a high sided, stand-alone tub with a shower fixture and 360 degree shower curtain. Unfortunately, while in use the warm, moist air rises and creates a small vacuum causing the shower curtains to suck inward on all sides. They in turn aggressively stick to your body as you attempt to shower. We jokingly referred to it as an “attack shower” and found ourselves battling the curtains for space. Frankly, it was a bit gross and off-puttting for an otherwise luxury home. If it were mine, I’d find a better solution. But for that, this is a great rental and location.
We had a great stay in this new beautifully designed and furnished home for our family of 5. From the back door to waters edge is about a tenth of a mile which was almost a 4 minute walk for us with littles. The semi steep decline/ incline (as noted in listing) crossing over the dry creek prevented us from taking our ice chest but otherwise the waters edge was outfitted with everything we could need for an afternoon by the water. This is a nice property on the Llano river!
This place is puuuuhreshuuuuus! Adorably decorated. Charmingly remote. Easy walk to the river through the back yard. I wish we had been staying longer, but we were just in town for the weekend for a wedding in nearby Mason. It's only about 15 minutes from the Cooper's BBQ in Llano, so while it is remote, you will not starve to death.
My only gripe (and it wasn't a big deal because I only had to shower once) was the bathtub situation. The bath rooms and bathtubs are very cute, but with the 360 shower curtain rods that are only as wide as the bathtub, the shower curtain liners would billow up due to the steam created by the warm water and touch you all over while showering. They did have magnets to hold them down, but they weren't heavy enough to prevent the inwards billowing of the shower curtain liners in all directions.
I strongly recommend the host replace the existing 360 rod with a wider rod. Additionally, a small table in the corner between the tub and the wall to put shampoo/conditioner/body wash on would be helpful. We just had to shower with our bottles floating around in the bottom of the tub. Like I said, no biggie as we were only there for two nights and I showered before we drove down and when we got back home so I only had to use this shower once while we were there.
10/10 would stay again.
Our family loved our time in Llano. The house is beautiful and clean. It had everything we needed for our stay. The weather was wet and cold, but we were still able to enjoy the kayaks and the fire pit made for a fun evening outside. The river is absolutely beautiful and we loved exploring it. We look forward to coming back in the summer!
We just returned from a great stay at RSH!
Pictures are exactly as the house appears. Brand new, looks like it could have been on HGTV! Everything provided to cook full turkey dinner! Sara is most responsive!! The only issue was that we could not stream TV off our cell phones. A new cell tower is being built so hopefully this will change. Thanks for sharing your home with us!
