About this property

Hideout Cottage Discounts weeks of August 15 and 27 Lake Leelanau

Late August cancels result in big discounts, and 3 night stays. Applies weeks of August 15 and 27. Our classic knotty pine cottage is waterfront on Lake Leelanau. It's at the end of the lane tucked between the cedar forest and clear stream. No through traffic, no shared front yard; a place where you truly feel on vacation. Perfect for your sunrise cup of coffee, or sunset glass of local wine you are sure to unwind in this beautiful waterfront location.

The cottage is comfortably furnished with an Up North flair featuring log furniture and numerous Up-North touches. The open floor plan, living room- kitchen is perfect for conversation, family meals and games.

There are three bedrooms, two full baths, and a popular outdoor shower, plus a large family room giving you lots of space to spread out.
The 1st bedroom and second bedrooms have queen beds, the 3rd bedrooms has a bunk with twin over double bed. Kids love the hand carved turtles and raccoons on their beds. The den has a futon couch/bed, TV, DVD player, bar and game table. The family room makes a nice mini-suite, or a great place for the kids to hang-out.

From the front deck we've seen turtles, otter, deer, grouse, and eagles. The shallow lake entry area is perfect for play. "Dark Skies" make this a fabulous place to watch for meteor showers and Northern Lights (we've seen both many times) The dock has room for your boat or make it your private fishing pier. Our area of the lake is popular with the fisherman who know the good spots.. Two kayaks and a canoe are included for a quiet morning paddle. Serve meals on the old-style pine picnic table and choose between charcoal grill or gas flat top, making outdoor cooking a pleasure. Retire to the oversize hammock to read a book or take a nap. When it's time to clean up head for the outdoor shower with dressing area. The perfect end to an upnorth day is around the campfire where stories are told and marshmallow S'mores are the traditional treat.

Location, Waterfront on your own secluded lane, just five minutes drive south of Lake Leelanau. Easily day trip to Leland, Northport, Suttons Bay, Empire or Glen Arbor for unique shopping and restaurants.

The Hideout is at the heart of Wine Country with many personal favorites within 5 minutes. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a short drive and stunning Lake Michigan sunsets at Good Harbor Beach are free everyday just 10 minutes away.

Our dock is available for your boat and there is generous parking for your boat trailer. The boat launch is less than 1 mile from our cottage.

We will have tourism information at the cottage on arrival. If you have specific planning needs please contact us in advance.

The hosts, Lou and Diana, were very kind people with good communication and fast responses! We enjoyed our stay and made great use out of the kayaks, campfire, and dock. Also worth noting that the mattress in the master bedroom was comfy (which is something I always appreciate)! The air conditioning did quit working during our stay, but Lou and Diana quickly resolved the issue by getting someone out to fix it the very next day! Highly recommend!

Picturesque to say the least- best kept secret… cabin on the lake. Beautiful mornings and mystifying autumn nights by the campfire! The best part of it all, was that the hosts provided all of the necessities that many don’t ( we just bring our own because of past experiences), including a nice bag if chocolate:).We will definitely be a repeat visitor. If you want to immerse with nature and the Leelanau peninsula… this is your place!

6/10 Okay

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness
GOOD: Kitchen/eating room nice, couch very comfortable. Amenities: kitchen VG, also books, games galore, jigsaw puzzles, kayaks, fire ring w/ supplied wood (cool), sandbox for kids, hammock. Lake few feet from deck, somewhat sandy bottom. TV good.BAD: Arrival: bag of Sea Salt Caramels; welcoming note addressed to Mercados? Not us. 2nd note “No trespassing sign is below a wasp nest in Maple tree. They are dormant as its cooler but letting you know.” DEAL BREAKER! Hornets’ nest b/t hammock and sandbox. Nest should be removed. 4 beds in the Hideout; not one made ready for guests. Sheets on bed, wrong size; making bed almost tripped on bunched-up carpets. Had to straighten them & padding & lay flat.Screen door to patio can’t be moved back; glass door hard to open/close. Needs to be adjusted.Water fixtures old, unattractive, & much built-up crud. Left-over, open food. Can’t speak for all travelers, but we don’t want left overs from previous guests. How old is food?Main floor shower full of half used body washes & a ¾ used deodorant Seriously, that is disgusting. Throw stuff out; don’t leave for the next quests. “Upstairs” bathroom faucet needs to be cleaned. Unscrew the little ring under it & rinse out what is blocking water. Light in stairway needs battery. Sweeper is disgustingly filthy & covered with dust.TV room: dead bugs and cobwebs inside on windows, not between the windows and screens. Couch worn & sunken.Sorry this is so choppy; not enough allowed characters.

Thanks for taking the time to review your stay. I am glad you enjoyed the waterfront living room. We get compliments frequently. After a decade of positive feedback it was a shock to see your review.. We have always valued cleanliness and our cleaning manager works very hard to turnover the cottage stays. The household items mentioned have been addressed. We found out about the wasp nest 4 hours before your arrival. We had a professional spray the nest when no one was there. (The first person we called said it was safer to leave it alone). Every year we make physical updates and will put your recommendations on our 2027 list. This is our family cottage, not an impersonal owner and we want the Hideout to always be at it's best.

Hideout Vacay

This is a very pleasant, clean, well-maintained cottage on wonderful Lake Leelanau. The kitchen was well-stocked with what we needed to cook, the mattresses are great, and we enjoyed kayaking on the lake and hiking on nearby trails. We would definitely rent this cottage again.

We absolutely loved staying here for our anniversary weekend. So well maintained and being right on the water was a dream. The hosts provided so many different games and activities for us to partake in! From the board games, to kayaking, a fire pit, and even binoculars for bird watching we never had a dull moment. The cabin was 15-20 minutes away from so many amazing spots but we easily could have stayed at the cabin and never gotten tired of it. I can’t say enough good things about Lou and Diana. We will definitely be back!

We had a great time connecting with family, enjoying the lake, cute town of Leelanau and our "Up North Cabin" experience! I think we all said the outside shower was our favorite! Had everything we needed and loved playing games in the back bonus room.

Thanks for taking the time to share feedback on your stay and the high rating. We always leave clean sheets and a blanket (in addition to the bedspread) for each bed. We also took care to do the same for the futons for the additional 2 sets of 3 people you added after you booked. In retrospect I probably should not have approved adding people but wanted to be accommodating. We prefer to leave fresh sheets on each bed so people can be assured they have clean sheets when they make their bed. Thanks again for your feed-back

great cottage in a great location

We have been coming to the glen arbor area for a long time and found this to be one of our 2 favorite places we've stayed. It's bigger than the pictures make it look, and nicer too. The hosts are extremely responsive. It's a very private and quiet part of the lake, and very easy to drive to Leland or Sutton's Bay for anything you need. Highly recommend

My family stayed at the Hideaway for a week and it couldn’t have been better. The cottage is extremely well equipped. The beds are comfortable. The kitchen and living areas are clean and efficient. Outdoors they have everything you need in a great location on the lake. The property manager was also very responsive and a good communicator. Perfect Getaway

My mother, brother, and I had an excellent time at the hideout. It's tucked away on Lake Leelanau and is the perfect spot to explore the Leelanau Peninsula. The only caveat is the bedrooms with bunk beds do not have 3 prong outlets, so if you're bringing a computer or any other device which needs a ground, you may want to bring an adapter or charge elsewhere in the cabin.

Michiganders forever, currently living in the Chicago area we really appreciate the slower pace and peace and quiet.

Why they chose this property

Five generations of our family have been vacationing in Leelanau County. As children moved away for careers it always provides a place to "'disconnect" and "reconnect" .
We reinvent games we played and telling stories.

What makes this property unique

Walking out on the dock, coffee in hand, to watch the sun come up is a superb way to start the day. In the city we forget how brilliant the night stars can be and the excitement of seeing a meteor shower, or if lucky, the Northern Lights. The pace of life changes for our whole family. We have time to enjoy each other and the simple things.
