About this property
Tranquil escape nestled in the forest on a beautiful horse ranch.
Tranquil cabin at Salt Creek Ranch in the Gila National Forest. This modern cabin includes a comfy King size bed with a
Dormeo topper, full kitchen, and a covered porch with views of horse pastures, hummingbirds, and beautiful mature trees that grow along Sapillo Creek (runs through the property).
Located just off the Trail of the Mountain Spirits... about 2 miles from Lake Roberts, 15 miles from Gila Hot Springs, & 18 miles from Gila Cliff dwellings.
We give our guests full privacy, but are available if needed via messaging . Please let us know if there is anything you need or if something on the property needs our attention.
This cabin is located on our ranch. It is about 1/4 mile off the highway and sits in a lovely valley. You can occasionally hear a car on the highway, or a distant neighbor target shooting, It is a remote area. The ranch owns from one ridge to the other in the valley that the cabin sits. Your only "neighbors" are us (the hosts), the horses that are in the pasture that the cabin overlooks, and some wildlife out the back door in the forest.
Close to Lake Roberts, endless hiking, ATV trails, horse trails, and offroading
There is a creek crossing across the driveway that you will need to drive through.
The ranch backs up to over a million acres of National Forest to hike or ride for hours. You can literally hike out your back door, up the hill that is owned by the ranch, and into the national forest with no fences between you and the vast Gila National Forest.
If you would like to meet the horses in person, please let Lauren know. For liability reasons, we need to accompany you to meet the horses. Thank you for understanding!
For horse riders who are interested in bringing horses, please contact the host for stall/paddock options. We have an 8-stall barn and keep 2-4 stalls available for guest horses.
This lovely modern cabin will give you easy access to hiking in the Gila National Forest and Wilderness; fishing at Lake Roberts; soaking at the Gila Hot Springs; or exploring the Gila Cliff Dwellings.
The cabin has an open floor plan, with the only interior walls being around the bathroom, creating lots of natural light and a pleasant uplifting place to "breathe". The kitchen is full-sized with all amenities to cook, bake, and eat. The kitchen shares space with the dining table that easily serves/seats four people. The kitchen counter extends down the wall for a sitting space with tall stools that looks out the window over the horse pasture... a great place to sip on a cup of java in the morning during cooler weather when you'd rather be inside than out on the patio.
The King-size bed has a Dormeo topper, as well as two Dormeo pillows. Dormeo pillows have a soft side and a firm side, so flip them over to see which side you like best! Additional pillows are also stored in the cabin closet.
The futon sleeper sofa easily folds out to provide a sleeping space for one additional person (though not a very large person). There is additional bedding and pillows in the closet.
The outdoor spaces... the front covered patio has beautiful views of the horse pastures and is equipped with a small table with chairs or two outdoor recliners to take in the views or watch the hummingbirds come and go from the feeders. The back yard is a natural gateway into the forest. If you spend a morning or evening sitting in the chairs in this space... it's like watching a Disney movie at times with all the forest animals coming and going from the feeders... all kinds of birds, chipmunks, and squirrels. There is a small pair of binoculars in the cabin with a couple of bird books for this region.
The nearest large airports are El Paso TX (3-hour drive) and Tucson AZ (4-hour drive). However, there is a small airline (AdvancedAirlines.com) that flies into Grant County Airport in Silver City from Phoenix, Albuquerque, and Los Angeles at a very reasonable rate. Rental Cars are available at the Grant County Airport through Silver Car Rental at 575-574-2350 (must reserve in advance).
Grant County Airport is about 1 hour from the ranch.
The ranch is located on "The Trail of the Mountain Spirits Scenic Byway". If coming from Silver City, you'll take Highway 15 to Highway 35. When you get to the first "dip", the "Salt Creek Ranch" sign will be on you left. Come on down the driveway.
If coming from Mimbres, you'll come in on Highway 35, pass the Lake Roberts General Store by 2.3 miles and you'll see the "Salt Creek Ranch" sign on the left..
Please take note that this is a fairly remote location. You must drive through a creek crossing to get to the cabin, so we recommend a 4WD or vehicle with a little more clearance than standard. Most of the time this crossing is very shallow, but it can be volatile during the monsoon season. You will need to bring food, as the nearest grocery store is almost an hour drive (Silver City). The closest restaurant is about 25 minutes away (The Log Cabin).
Cell service: Much of the drive up to the cabin there will not be cell service.
