OVER 100 ACRES TO ROAM - FROM BEAUTIFUL WATERFALLS TO ROAN HIGH KNOB. LONGER TERM RENTALS WELCOME!
Named for the creek that flows beside it, Laurel Creek Cottage is a wonderful retreat beneath the High Knob of Roan Mountain. Located half way between Bakersville, NC and the Appalachian Trail at Carver's Gap, it is a beautiful drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Our area is known for the Rhododendron Gardens atop Roan Mountain and for the many Christmas tree farms. Our communities have great public areas for hiking, swimming, fishing, jogging, tennis and bicycling. These creek side and river side parks are pristine and relaxing. Other area activities include tubing, kayaking, gem mining, studio tours for local artists, museums and entertaining evenings at local restaurants and gathering spots.
As hosts to our visiting guests, we strive to make your trip enjoyable and comfortable. Our master suite is a soothing place with a king bed, cathedral ceilings and skylights. The double door access to the creek side covered deck invites one to explore the outdoors and the nearby waterfalls. Laurel Creek is a native stream and a fisherman's dream. The sound of the rushing water has been a lullaby for many of our guests.
Our guest room has a double bed with a single bed bunk above. Another full bath is right next to the guest room and deck access, just steps away.
The cottage has all the conveniences of home. Linens and towels are provided. The living room adjoins the kitchen and dining area, and there is a 'mud room' entrance for those snowy days.
Asheville's Biltmore Estate is a leisurely drive of just over an hour. The slopes of Boone and Banner Elk are within an hour's drive. Our area is conveniently located near other exciting adventures. Packages are available as well.

The house was comfy and cute with all that you will need. Our family of 5 really enjoyed the amenities. The location is perfect, so close to so many hiking and outdoor adventures. Even right in the backyard! The creek was awesome for exploring or just sitting outside by the fire. We hiked at Carvers Gap, Mount Mitchell and braved Grandfather mountain and the mile high swinging bridge. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute and Joann was a very gracious host. She was there when we needed her with quick replies to our calls but otherwise she was invisible and left us to enjoy ourselves and the adorable Laurel Cottage.

So glad you all had a good visit! Hope to host you again soon.
Hosts were very responsive and accommodating to our needs. Internet connection upgraded shortly after we arrived and it was fast and reliable. Location is great for access to Roan Mountain and the surrounding areas. Lots of wildlife to watch at the cabin and in the area; that was our favorite activity. Cell service very weak at the cabin, even with Verizon.
The cottage is cozy and welcoming. The furniture is a little dated, but the bedroom is updated and comfortable. The brook right outside the master bedroom is really the hallmark of this place. Listening to it at night as you drift off, or having breakfast on the patio by it is absolute heaven. The only problem was with the internet which was sketchy and my phone service did not work although my girlfriends did. Hosts were welcoming and very attentive. We would come back again!

Gregg we are so pleased that you all enjoyed your stay. We have added a new dedicated internet connection and modem in the cottage, as well as the Fiber Optic sourced Wi-Fi. We hope you visit our creek side cottage again soon.
Very happy with this rental property! The creek leading up to a beautiful waterfall was an added bonus. Most waterfall hikes are heavily trafficked but since this one’s on private property, we had it all to ourselves! There are also lots of other great hikes nearby. We cooked several meals on the outdoor grill. There’s an Ingles supermarket about 15 mins away in Spruce Pine with a great selection of fresh meat and seafood for grilling. The cabin had all the supplies we needed. The only downfall to this rental was the low supply of hot water. We were only 2 people so it wasn’t too big of an issue but I could see it being a problem for some. Overall I would definitely recommend this rental and look forward to staying here again.
we had a great time. No one bothered us the whole week. The stream off the deck was so relaxing. The furniture in the livingroom needs new padding, alittle worn out. Its a wonder place to stay. It was a 40 year Anniversary.
The cottage was clean, quiet, and restful. My wife and I provide full time care for my mother with Alzheimer’s, and desperately needed a break. It was just what we needed. The owners are close by , but did not disturb our tranquility in the least. They are both friendly and genuine people, and I recommend their place highly .
This place is perfect for reflection and tranquility. The creek, and the sound, is beautiful. We hiked up. It was challenging and rewarding. Coming from a newer urban city the decor of the cottage appeared older and a little miss matched, but in not in bad conditions. The mattresses were very comfortable and high quality. I feel that not rating location and neighborhood a five is wrong. I did bcz we wanted to be closer to skiing/snow tubing -whic it's about 1 1/2 away but the drive is breath taking.... and a little intimidating for non mountain people. However, if sense of solitude and driving is not a concern, this is your place. The kitchen had all we needed. The microwave is an older model so it took a few tries to figure it out. Bring your wine/liquor bcz nearest towns do not sell alcohol. However short driver to neighboring County resolves it.
Enjoy your stay. We did.

We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Laurel Creek Cottage in beautiful Mitchell County and we hope you will visit with us again soon. Mitchell County does have alcohol available, in restaurants and stores, in nearby Spruce Pine. Thank you again for choosing Laurel Creek Cottage!
The cottage was cute and the area was nice. Only complaints would be that the cottage is located right next to what I assume is the owners house. Wasn’t a huge issue for us, but not quite the solitude I was expecting from description. Also not much hot water so if you have a 5 person family like us not everyone got a good shower each night. It was peaceful and was good short stay for our family!
The cottage was very comfortable and well maintained. It was very relaxing listening to the creek while sitting on the patio. It’s a great location to get to many hiking destinations.
Quiet retreat, having the back door open with screen door locked, listening to the sound of the creek was very relaxing. A beautiful sight to see also. Great place to be alone or with a loved one to enjoy the peacefulness and relax.
The owners were wonderful to keep us updated and made it very easy to find and check in. The house was the perfect size and very comfortable. The stream running alongside it was amazing!! The house was a little musty smelling that could cause some issues with allergies, I noticed another traveler mentioned it too. The property was very clean and I think it may be from the dampness of the area or maybe reclaimed wood. However, we opened the door a bit and it was perfect. Dont let that deter you from this amazing little get away. Motorcycle riders, it's a great ride and excellent parking!
We had a wonderful time here, lovely cottage. It has all you need. Wonderful hosts! Near lots of hiking and outdoor activities. Just a great place ..we enjoyed our stay.
Good communication with owner. Clean and comfortable accommodations. Nice creek heard from cabin, wonderful area to hike without having to drive anywhere. Mitchell county is a dry county, so byob. We will recommend this lovely get away to family and friends.
It's all about the bedroom and the creek. Cathedral ceiling with skylight next to a lively creek. Even had fireworks on the 5th of July just down the hill. Short drive to Roan Mountain with the rhododendron garden and the Appalachian Trail! Friendly owners and room to roam.
Clean, cozy, close to Roan Mtn hiking trails. Creek running by the cottage made the atmosphere so peaceful. Cottage has eveything you need.

Amazing little cottage right on a creek.
Went with my girlfriend and our kids. Beautiful little place with the sounds of a running creek at all times. Cooked on the grill and had a fire by the creek at night. We would definitely come back if had the opportunity

A lovely cottage with a creek running very near. The sound of the water rushing -heavenly!
We had a lovely time here. On the side of Roan mountain it was private, quiet and serene. Jo Ann is a very warm and inviting person. She honestly wants people to be comfortable here and goes out of her way to prove it. The Master bedroom with it's view of the creek and the sound of rushing water was so relaxing. A great place to relax and unwind!

As beautiful as the pictures
The cottage was welcoming and wonderful, and the new porch roof was a perfect touch. We enjoyed a fire by the creek, a hike following the waterfalls (never found the top!) while our Thanksgiving turkey was roasting. The area is just spectacular. As remote as it is, we were able to find a roasting pan in Bakersville on Thanksgiving Day when I discovered I had left my pan home! We really enjoyed our stay.
