Step onto your private white sand beach, where you can enjoy swimming, fishing, crabbing, birdwatching, and kayaking or paddleboarding. The warm sand beckons you to unwind and soak up the sun's warm embrace while relaxing with a good book. Whip up delicious meals in the beautiful large renovated full kitchen, equipped with all the essentials including double ovens, refrigerator, ice maker, dishwasher, and microwave. Plenty of room to work and plenty pf cookware and kitchen gadgets including a drip coffee maker and a Keurig, a blender, a griddle, and lots of little extra kitchen gadgets. If you’re looking to grill out a charcoal grill is available too. We include some basic staples to get you started including some paper products, some dish soap, and of course fresh linens for the beds and bath towels. Traditionally available for weekly rentals, we also offer flexible arrangements for weekend getaways or split-week stays, perfect for accommodating your family or friends visiting from out of town. Why settle for the ordinary when you can experience the extraordinary at the Getaway River House with Private Beach?
The Getaway is a large free-standing home on about an acre lot. Originally built in 1950, so it is not brand new and has some interesting quirks and some transitions between rooms with a small step. The primary bedroom does have a private bath and walk-in shower and a jetted double tub, but both have steps to access them. We have a couple of caretakers who live nearby to take care of the grass and provide assistance should any emergency pop up that needs immediate attention. Book your escape today and make memories to last a lifetime.

Very nice home. Only issues were the ants in the kitchen. Had plenty of room for our family.

Hi Lori,
Thank you so much for your kind words and for staying with us! We're so glad to hear the home had plenty of space for your family and that you enjoyed your time overall.
We truly appreciate you letting us know about the ants in the kitchen, it's helpful feedback. While we do have regular pest control in place, sometimes a few determined visitors still manage to sneak in, especially during warmer months. We've already alerted our team so they can take care of it promptly.
Perfect and peaceful waterfront home. Fabulous hosts. Close to historic triangle for convenience but far enough away that you can leave it all behind and just relax. One caveat for this house though. It wouls not be ideal for anyone with mobility issues because it has numerous steps and ledges. Other than that, it is heaven! Thank you so much for allowing us to be your guests.
Great location for a weekend spent at Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens! Awesome that we got to use the canoe! Also, really nice kitchen!

Hi Jason,
Thank you for choosing The Getaway for your recent trip to the Historic Triangle! We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and were able to use the canoe! Hope to see you again.
Overall the place worked well for our needs and the backyard/view was amazing! The property itself was not very clean though at check in. We found random socks under furniture and so many cobwebs under kitchen cabinets. It’s unfortunate for the price we paid to not have a completely clean house to use. There were also no kitchen towels and not hand towels in all of the bathrooms.

I am glad you loved the place and regret that the cleaning was not up to your standards or ours. We typically do a deep clean at the end of the season, and it is scheduled for the second of November, before the Holiday bookings. Either way, there is simply no excuse for that. We will need to have a hard conversation with our cleaning team. We have struggled to keep the price reasonable while all expenses have gone up. I do hope you will enjoy the property again. If so, I am sure you will find the view to continue to be stellar and a better job cleaning.
Excellent place to enjoy 4 generations of my family. Plenty of space to play with my grandkids outside and games to enjoy on the inside. Very quiet neighborhood and plenty of privacy.

Than you. Glad you enjoyed it. It s officially the end of the season and we will have a deep cleaning done in the weeks to come and then again at the start of the season. We have also ordered some new furniture.
Thanks
Greg
My group had so much fun with the private beach! The canoe was such a great amenity along with the ping pong table. Would definitely say to make sure you bring your own toilet paper and paper towels etc, but other than that had a fabulous stay in an absolutely beautiful area. Would recommend this vacation to anyone.
Great location. Ample room throughout the house to sit with family. dining room chairs were all falling apart be careful when you sit down.

Thank you for your input. Sorry about the kitchen chairs. WE have really struggled to get a new dining room set. Should have one in place soon as well as some other new furniture too.
Overall nice house, big enough for the family to spread out and have their own space. Location was perfect and the neighbors were friendly. The house was clean but could use an overall deep clean.
We used the house as home base for day trips to Richmond and Yorktown. We wished had more days to go elsewhere this trip. My wife especially liked the York River waterfront. We actually saw a dolphin close to shore one evening!

About the host
Hosted by Greg Granger
I was born and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia. Married my beautiful wife Lisa and we have three great kids who enjoy canoeing & kayaking on the river.
Why they chose this property
I chose to buy this vacation home because of its proximity to Williamsburg. It is close enough for a quick drive and just far enough to feel like you are really getting away. Growing up in Williamsburg we often traveled to Virginia Beach or the Outer Banks of North Carolina for vacation. Now a lovely drive on the Colonial Parkway over the Coleman Bridge and we are there without the headache of a long traffic filled road trip.
What makes this property unique
The Getaway has it all - water sports, a relaxing private sandy beach, and is convenient to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, Yorktown, and more. With accommodations for 10, there is room to spread out.
