Peaceful, inspiring and creative, our newly remodeled, cozy cottage has everything you'll need for a rejuvenating mountain vacation.
624 sq. ft., 2 bedrooms. Kitchen. Deck. Private parking. Less than a mile to shopping and dining on King Street in downtown Boone and ASU campus. Only 1 mile to Howard's Knob County Park.
There is wi-fi and YouTube TV in each bedroom and the living room. There's also a DVD player, a CD player and a record player with lots to see and hear!
We spent all of 2022 remodeling this home, believed to have been originally built in 1905. We wanted to honor it's history ~ we left some of the original wood exposed in the built-in shelves. We also used some of the old floor joists to make the window sills and shelves.
The house is very comfortable. It's the perfect space to retreat and create. The kitchen has all new appliances. Most of the furnishings are vintage and well cared for.
There's a spacious back yard, including a 30-40 year old cherry tree and a super tall hydrangea! While sipping on the deck, you may see a family of wild turkeys or some dear grazing. You may even get a visit from the neighborhood Mouse Master, Frank (the cat)! You'll enjoy a beautiful sunset on the ridge line while you relax by the fire pit.
There is plenty of driveway parking for trucks, minivans and SUVs. The cottage is located on 1/4 mile of gravel road and there is one street access parking pad for compact and mid-size cars - please make sure you do not block passage for the school bus.
Less than a mile ~ So close to downtown Boone, it's common to walk to King St. and take an Uber home. Be sure to check out our guide book for suggestions of some of our favorites! *If you can't find the online version, there's a printed version in the Welcome book.

My wife and i were in town to catch up with some former summer baseball playees when they came north to play App State. Our stay was wonderful! The cottage was immaculate, relaxing, comfortable, everthing we needed it to be. Boone proved to be a well-maintained town with multiple shopping and dining options. Lovely people. Hope we get the chance to visit again in the future.

Thank you for your kind words Greg. We are so glad you enjoyed the cottage and we would gladly host you again. You are a 5 star traveler and we highly recommend that others host you as well.
My husband and college bound daughter stayed here for ASU orientation. It was perfect size for the 3 of us. We enjoyed listening to the vast record collection as well as digging in for a game of Boonopoly. We ate out most of the time while we were there wanting to give Boone restaurants a try. Love the boho decor. And will keep this place in mind when we visit Boone again.

Thank you for your kind words Kim ~ we are grateful you chose to stay with us and we look forward to hosting your next Mountaineer visit ~ go App State!
Beautiful little getaway... a blast from the past!
We loved the little cottage on the hill for our weekend away to visit our daughter for a college football game! Only a mile from downtown, but we felt like we had headed to the hills, high above King street and App State. The furnishings were comfortable and perfect for the three of us. We enjoyed the fire pit one evening and the kitchen was well equipped for our family breakfast the next morning. The decor is fabulous... a blast from our past with a record player, DVD's and even a rotary phone (not for use, but a great way to show our daughter how long it took to call home in the 80's!)! Beautifully renovated, comfortable and cozy. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area!

Kim ~ thank you for your kind words. We are so glad the cottage was cozy and peaceful for you. So many of our guests enjoy that it’s so close to town yet feels like being far away in the woods! We look forward to hosting your next mountain retreat!
My 7 year old, husband and I stayed 4 nights for New Year’s Eve and it was such a great trip! The owner gave us a great recommendation of tweetsies and a website with info on things to do. The property was the perfect size for the 3 of us; small, quaint and clean. The table, chairs and umbrella pictured on the deck area are no longer there, so no way to sit outside, and the fire pit mentioned is just a bucket in the back yard, no seating or wood so that was a little disappointing as we brought stuff for smores and hoped to spend some time outside. But we found some great activities for each day and spent very little time at the property. Although they have a kitchen, we ate every meal out except my son had a bowl of cereal each morning before heading out for the day, so I was a bit surprised that we were charged a 25 fee for leaving 2 bowls and 2 coffee mugs in the sink. We also left the bagged up trash by the door instead of putting it in a receptacle that we were unaware of, so that was part of the fee. Make sure you look through the book on the table for these instructions as they are not sent through VRBO like the checkin instructions were. We were also initially charged 5 different fees for “items missing from the property” that were then “located” which was strange. But the owner did reverse these fees. And we left 35 minutes late (10:35 instead of 10am) but the owner waved the late checkout fee, although most places have a grace period. Odd checkout experience.

Everything this guest is complaining about is explained in the very detailed Welcome Book left open on the kitchen table. The check-out list is on page 2 and there are very few things expected, except putting dishes in the dishwasher and taking care of your trash. Reading is important. The fire-pit is exactly how it’s shown in the photos with exception of a few inches of snow. The guest book does also have info about the fire-pit and it does detail that wood is not provided. The deck chairs and umbrella are available March thru Nov. when there’s less chance of wind, snow and ice (not great for deck furniture). Unauthorized late check-out is exactly that, unauthorized…our house is not a hotel, we need the allowed time to prepare for next guests, especially when others do not read and don’t follow the check-out process. Overall, this guest is entitled and disrespectful and I would not recommend to other hosts.

Located on the edge of a quiet neighborhood, this home faces a forest and field on two sides. It's quiet and common to see and hear lots of bird and wildlife activity.
