About this property

Hidden Lake Chalet w/ fire pit, sauna, trails, directly on lake

This is a fully renovated, small yet luxurious lake chalet on Mashapaug Pond with the best views on the lake. Only 33 houses are on this 300 acre lake that abuts Bigelow Hollow State Park, so the views from your porch are of natural beauty and splendor.

The house has 2 gas fire places, an outdoor gas fire pit, sauna, a massive two-person tub, heated floors in the bathrooms and entire lower level, heated towel rack, 2 gas lamp heaters outside for chilly mornings and evenings, sits right on the lake and has access to miles and miles of trails at Bigelow, Nipmuck and into Massachusetts that can be accessed directly from the house. The home was fully remodeled in 2022, completely gutted to the studs, so everything is pristine and new. All of the furniture is West Elm, Maiden Home or custom built.

The kitchen boasts custom made cabinetry, 2 inch concrete waterfall countertops, Miele appliances, a wine fridge and a coffee bar with drip, Nespresso or French press. And if you still want more coffee options (because who doesn’t) the lower level primary suite also has a Nespresso so you can roll out of bed and make yourself an espresso!

The primary suite is massive, with an entire separate seating area in front of the fire place with a low table for floor-cushion dining or using as a coffee table. The king bed is also low to the ground and allows for direct views of the lake. Walk right out to your own private sauna, outdoor shower and clawfoot tub, take a cold plunge in the lake, and then head inside to hop into the walk-in shower keeping your toes warm on the heated floors. Grab a toasty towel from the heated rack, and enjoy lighted and defogger mirrors as you ready yourself in the mornings. Or, if you are more of the bath type, the tub is a massive 2 person soaker, for ultimate luxury.

The primary suite walk-in closet has a washer/dryer with custom-built clothes hanging shelves for drying delicates, and California closet built-ins.

The house has integrated speakers in the grand room, primary bedroom, bathroom, closet and outside and works with Sonos or other music apps, or if you are so inclined, vinyl!

There is private access to a boat house holding 2 Stand-up paddle boards (for rent for an additional fee) and a dock in the summer season. The lake is perfect for SUPs, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing and is a low-speed lake so very safe and quiet. In the winter when the lake freezes over ice fishermen are in heaven, as are folks who love showshoeing and cross-country skiing. The lake is a known spot for walleye, and boats with small motors can be launched from the public launch about 5 minutes away.

An additional secret is that this house is only 15 minutes away from the famous Tree House Brewery for those who love amazing craft beer, and the excellent restaurants and bistros in Sturbridge. While the home feels in the middle of nowhere, it’s only 7 mile drive to any and everything you need.

This is really not a party or kid house, as everything was finished with an adult ‘work from home’ person in mind. Even the main bath has a custom floating wood countertop and hand-carved stone vessel sink with a waterfall shower. It’s a truly stunning bathroom, but not one that is great for the kiddos since there is no tub and no counter to climb on. There are lots of ‘buttons and dials’ for the bidet, radiant heat and other high-end finishings that would just be too tempting for toddlers to fiddle with, and the primary suite tub is ‘free-standing,’ so a child cannot climb into it safely.

Additionally, there is a 2nd bedroom upstairs with a king that can be used for your stay or for the occasional guest, but it wouldn’t be suitable for longer stays. Finally, this is my personal, primary residence, so it is important that folks staying treat it like their own.

My home is optimal for digital nomads, as that is what I am, couples looking for a romantic escape, athletes who want access to trails, a gym and swimming, nature enthusiasts who want to hike and camp, or folks who desire peace, quiet and the inspiration of nature to write or meditate.

There is an office that has an adjustable (stand up or sit down) desk, a printer, and great WiFi.

I have severe allergies, so this house is hypoallergenic and is cleaned only with natural products that won’t ruin any of the surfaces. This is also why only one, well-behaved dog may be approved if you can agree to the additional pet rules. I cannot accept cat guests due to my allergies.

Every room has views from the lake, and that is really the main attraction. I’m don’t even own a television, but has books and board games, and limitless seating areas to enjoy the peace and quiet and views.

If you want to stay for longer than a week or month, just reach out. I’ve been a digital nomad for years, so we can work together on coming up with a plan that fits!

About the host

Host profile image
I am a digital nomad and split my time between Arizona, Connecticut and California. I love trail running, travel, dining, and great wine and coffee. I am an avid renter of homes, but a first time home-lister!

Why they chose this property

This is my personal home! I designed everything myself after a 15 month full renovation. The place used to be a 3 season summer camp, and I turned it into a high-end spa-like retreat that I simply adore.

What makes this property unique

I am from this area so can give you tons of tips on restaurants, trails, things to do. Also, depending on when you book, I will be in CT and able to help directly in-person, otherwise my property manager can be on-site in 45 mins.
