About this property

Lakefront Skoolie for 4 with hot tub, bathhouse

The Riviere Skoolie

A one-of-a-kind lakefront getaway, thoughtfully created inside a full-size school bus and set just steps from Lake Granbury. The Riviere Skoolie pairs a memorable place to stay with the comforts that make it easy to settle in: a private two-person hot tub, a separate bathhouse, kayaks, a propane grill, and your own outdoor space near the water.

It’s designed as a romantic escape for two, with room for a small family to join the adventure. Enjoy coffee by the lake, take the kayaks out from shore, or spend a quiet afternoon on the three-hole putting green. If you’d like to fish, bring your own rod and tackle. Guests have even landed some surprisingly large catfish from the shoreline. In the evening, grill dinner, relax in the hot tub, then gather by the fire with the lake just beyond.

Inside, the school bus has been converted into a comfortable, colorful retreat with a queen bed and two twin beds, heating and air conditioning, WiFi, a smart TV, and a kitchenette with a refrigerator, microwave, sink with hot and cold running water, and utensils for coffee, snacks, and simple meals. All three beds share one open-concept sleeping space, so it works best for a couple or a small family who are comfortable sharing the room.

Your private full bathroom is in a separate, roofed bathhouse just steps from the bus. It has a hot rain shower, hand sprayer, vanity with hot and cold water, teak bench, flushing toilet, towels, restored lockers, and an interior lock. The bathhouse is fully private and roofed, but because it is an outdoor structure, it is exposed to outside temperatures and is weather-resistant rather than completely weatherproof.

The Skoolie sits in a private, well-kept outdoor area with its own parking, privacy fencing, and room to unwind. The bus, hot tub, bathhouse, firepit, and designated outdoor living areas are reserved for your stay. Other Modern Nomads accommodations are nearby, so you may occasionally see other guests around the larger lakefront property. Your hot tub and bathhouse are never shared.

Historic Granbury Square is about 10 minutes away, with restaurants, coffee shops, wineries, boutiques, live music, and seasonal events. Or stay close, enjoy the water, and let the day unfold at its own pace. **ICE:** Ice is not provided at the property. Guests should plan to bring or purchase bagged ice as needed. Refrigerator ice makers, where present, are not guaranteed to be operational.

This is elevated glamping with character, comfort, and a direct connection to the outdoors. Granbury gives you plenty to do. The Riviere Skoolie gives you permission not to do any of it.

Disconnected and loving it

I had three boys with me and we intended to keep things simple - bbq, fish, fire, and kayak. We had everything we needed and our host was responsive and lovely. Can’t wait to come back.

Adorable couple retreat

The design and vision of this bus and outdoor bathroom were amazing. My husband, dog and I had a good few days away from the world. The property is in thr side yard of a home. We would recommend it to friends.

Excellent personal retreat

The bus was the perfect size for my 4 day personal retreat. Very creatively and beautifully appointed. The location is amazing and the serene treed lot beside the lake was perfect for resetting and rejuvenation. The outdoor shower and baths room was secure and a nice experience. They have everything you need. The WiFi was strong so I could easily work remotely. I will be back.

Mommy and me trip!

My 7 year old daughter and I loved our stay. It was just what we needed to get away from our busy lives. We were tech free for most of the trip so the bus brought out lots of creative ways to interact. We played bus driver and passenger. The games inside and out of the bus were a plus! Uno is my fav! The bus had many amenities. We loved kayaking and sitting on the patio in the evening. Not to mention the gorgeous fruit trees on the property. The outdoor bathroom was fun and outdoorsy. This was definitely a great place to stay!

A great weekend getaway!

My husband and I loved our stay here! It was so unique, very clean, and so comfortable. The bus is well stocked with everything, the beds are soft, and the bathroom was very nice. Lots of bugs, but that’s to be expected and they weren’t crazy. My only note is that I wish there was more separation between the other rental properties. Window covers were provided, but the area was blocked off by a short wall and people at the property next to us often were close. It didn’t feel private. Other than that, it was amazing!

Nice Getaway

This was a very peaceful, laid back place to stay. The access to the lake is at the end of a canal. Therefore, boats are not in the area and do not disturb floating/swimming/kayaking in the lake. The rest of the property was clean and well kept. The outdoor bathroom was nice and the shower was amazing! The bus was so cute. The close-quarter living was fun! The queen bed was extremely comfortable. There was plenty of room to sit for relaxing, watching tv or eating. All the appliances you could need for cooking and grilling are provided. I did make food ahead of time and warmed it in the microwave, so I didn’t have to cook much. The air conditioner kept the bus cool even in these hot July temps in Texas. We would definitely stay here again!

Amazing place. Was great just before our son started Kindergarten. Every day he said it was the best day ever. Never felt crammed with 4 of us. Shower and bathroom area are huge. Tall fences for privacy and magnet shades to block out sun or make it more private. Kayaks are great we also brought a blow up paddleboard. Water was only about 2-3’ deep most of the creek area we explored. So kids could hop out and swim around comfortably. We explored the creek up to the Brazos, went to Big Rocks in Glen Rose, cooked most our meals on the grill and grill burner when we didn’t eat out, although there is a hot plate and some cooking appliances inside. Didn’t have an issue with ants. Saw some by kayaks but no problems. Flies in August were a lot as expected. Might bring bug salt gun or electric swatter next time. Two other properties next to this are by same owners and can be all rented together for large events. The kids already want to go back. So I’m sure we will be there again.

About the host

Hosted by Jenna

Host profile image
Jenna and Ty are the hosts behind Life of the Modern Nomads, a collection of thoughtfully designed vacation stays across North Texas. Together, they create experience-driven properties that feel personal, comfortable, and a little unexpected. Ty manages the short-term rental business full time, overseeing operations, property care, guest experience, and the details that keep each stay running smoothly. Jenna brings the creative direction and design personality to each property while continuing to lead Winton and Waits, her Fort Worth boutique known for its distinctive, curated style. The Riviere Skoolie brings both sides of their work together: Jenna’s eye for story and atmosphere, and Ty’s focus on thoughtful hospitality and hands-on care. Their goal is to give guests a place to slow down, reconnect, and enjoy something they would never find in an ordinary hotel. Jenna and Ty are responsive hosts and are always happy to help make every stay feel easy and enjoyable.

Why they chose this property

A hotel room gives you a place to sleep. The Riviere Skoolie gives you a story to take home. Spend the day beside Lake Granbury, launch a kayak from shore, and take in the view with your morning coffee. When it’s time to unwind, your private two-person hot tub is waiting beneath the open sky. Later, gather around the firepit and enjoy the kind of evening that doesn’t need a schedule. And no, this isn’t a cramped old school bus with a mattress thrown in. It’s a thoughtfully converted full-size bus with a queen bed, two twin beds, heating and air conditioning, WiFi, a smart TV, and a kitchenette. Your private bathhouse, with a full bathroom and hot rain shower, is just steps away. The Skoolie is made for couples looking for a playful, romantic getaway, but there’s room to bring the kids along for a family adventure. It’s a distinctive waterfront on the Lake Granbury/Brazos River system experience for people who would rather make memories than book another ordinary room. Historic Granbury Square is about 10 minutes away. You can explore town, or stay by the water and enjoy having nowhere else you need to be.
