This historic and charming farmhouse is surrounded by nearly an acre of gardens. Located in the picturesque village of Lakeside, Michigan in the heart of Harbor Country. Less than a 90 minute drive from Chicago. A five minute walk to Lake Michigan's beautiful Pier Street Beach and renowned antique stores and markets.

Long Weekend Getaway

Really enjoyed the cottage. Very comfortable beds and a wonderful front porch for morning coffee and evening cocktails. The owner has a lot of amenities including bikes in the shed that my daughter and her friend loved being able to use and a fun inter tube we took down to the beach!

Great family vacation!

We had a great trip and the cottage was a wonderful location for our family to rest and eat between adventures. The host, Bill, was very helpful and had great communication. Checking in and out was a breeze and we felt right at home with plenty of sleeping space for our family of 6 (with younger kids ages 3-11.)

We had such a great time at the Lakeside Grove Cottage! It was clean, spacious, and close to antiques stores, the beach, breweries and coffee shops! This cottage was so spacious and peaceful. There is only 1 bathroom, but it is very spacious. The grounds and "hangout"bonus cottage in the back was a great plus. We love this area and its super close to the State Park! Beautiful weather!

Lovely cottage near beautiful nature

This was such a perfect place to stay with our extended family. We had five adults staying (two couples plus a parent), plus two dogs. It was such a comfortable home base for exploring all of the beautiful nature nearby. It had everything we needed to cook and stay in, but also nice dining options nearby. We had so much fun getting to spend time as a family over the holidays, and this was a great place to do it.

A real gem! Spacious inside and out, uniquely landscaped garden/yard including an outdoor screened in building that was huge and a treat to hang out in and take in nature from the indoors. Plenty of restaurants, breweries, nature, lake activities all nearby.

The cottage was very cozy and clean. The location was great. It was close to New Buffalo and the dunes. We were able to tour the wineries and breweries in the area as well. It had all the conveniences of home and felt like a vacation. The best part was I was able to bring my dog!!!!!!

Exactly what we needed

Our family has a home right around the corner and this was a perfect space to have as extra living space. The home is well stocked and clean. We would definitely stay again and maybe in the summer to enjoy the backyard.

This is a perfect rental in Harbor Country. The house is a cute cottage with all the amenities of home. Our family enjoyed the eat-in kitchen as well as the screened in porch. The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained with a fire pit and a screened in shed for family fun. The beach is just a short walk away and is also very well maintained. Very relaxing atmosphere

Loved the house! It’s a charming cottage. Everything as described. Spent the week (3 girlfriends) and the house worked perfectly for us. Wonderful screen porch. Beds and linens were very comfortable. We are familiar with the area and the location is convenient to everything in the area. (There is an adjacent train track so you need to be ready for the train noise a couple of times a day). Cooked at home a lot and loved having the eat in Kitchen as well as dining room.

We had a wonderful weekend at the Lakeside Cottage! Bill was a terrific host, and the house was clean, cozy, and charming. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook for ourselves all weekend, and there was a great combination of indoor and outdoor spaces to hang out. We usually travel with our 4 kids, and the space would have been big enough for all 6 of us, but it was very nice to have room to spread out for just the two of us! We used two of the bikes available with the property, which were in good condition and a very nice way to spend a warm fall afternoon. We enjoyed walking to the beach, exploring the many nearby natural areas. The fall colors were in peak form, and we were glad to be in Lakeside, which is a little more secluded and quiet than the nearby beach towns. We had a great stay and will look to stay here again when we're next back in SW Michigan.

Nice Property, Great Proximity

We stayed four nights with our small dog and used this place as a home base. Everything was as described. This place is rustic, so there are cobwebs, the outside areas are weathered, etc… The house is located near an active train track, which can sometimes be noisy. Neighbors were nice and quiet. The outdoor area was perfect for our dog. The host was very nice and responded quickly to questions.

My wife and I are proud parents of three girls, and our family has enjoyed our cottage in Lakeside for many years. We really enjoy the entire local community - it has such charm and character.

You can't beat Southwestern Michigan in the summer, but we have also enjoyed Harbor Country in the late fall and winter - the area has so much to offer.

Why they chose this property

We only live 33 miles from the property, so in less than 45 minutes we can escape to an entirely different world. The original foundation dates to 1895, and this cottage has so much character and charm we just fell in love with the place.

What makes this property unique

One of the previous owners was a landscape architect, so the gardens are special. Our 'summer cottage' offers a great place to have a happy hour or let the kids escape to their 'own' private place. The grounds of our property are beautiful, and there are few better places to be than making s'mores at the fire pit after a great day at the beach.
