About this property
Sleeps 24 - 90 steps to the Beach!
The Pebbles is now available for rent. Note: This is a FRIDAY to FRIDAY rental property. The rates are for your exclusive use of the whole house. The Pebbles underwent a multi-million dollar restoration, renovation and modernization from 2021 to the beginning of 2023. The house is a fantastic blend of history with the modern amenities of a luxury home.
The Pebbles is the last of Stone Harbors grand old Victorian homes since it was built in 1909, five years before Stone Harbor incorporated, featuring a secret staircase for servants, so their presence did not disturb the family and guests. The Pebbles entertained many politicians, including NJ Governor Woodrow Wilson, who later became President, and NY Mayor Jimmy Walker. In 1939 it was sold to Carlton Richards who turned it into a guest house. He took up the grass and put down pebbles which is how the house got its name. During the September hurricane of 1944, Richards invited those residents still on the island to use his house to shelter from the storm. While the storm raged, and the boardwalk and other houses were washed away, the Pebbles stood.
As one of the largest homes available in Stone Harbor, it is a great gathering place for large families, family and friend reunions, and groups coming to the shore to stay over for rehearsal dinners, weddings, golf outings and business retreats. There are plenty of spaces to get together in the house, as well as breakout areas to get away on your own for a little peace and quiet - and many stunning ocean views from the 2nd to the 4th floors.
The Pebbles, at 94th and 1st Ave, is only 90+ steps from the beach but is also centrally located to downtown 96th St with great restaurants and bars such as Freds Tavern or the Reeds, playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, shuffleboard and you can even stumble home from the Windrift (that's probably a 15 minute walk!).
The Pebbles has 8 bedrooms (7 ensuite), 9 full bathrooms (including a full cabana bathroom on ground floor by the pool) and 1 powder room. There are 4 large family room areas to spread out in a crowded house as well as 2 wrap around porches (floors 1 and 2) in the front of the house, a private deck off the primary bedroom overlooking the ocean (floor 3), 2 rear porches overlooking the ocean (floors 2 and 3) and a rear ground level entertainment area including a covered outdoor grilling station, eating area, bar area with tv with an adjacent pool and hot tub.
Beds: 1 king, 6 queens, 4 full/double, 2 twins, 2 queen sleeper sofas.
We hope you will consider spending some time at this beach home which is available year round. Bookings are not confirmed until a fully executed lease is received with Owner approval. Check in times vary, please refer to your lease. This property does not allow any pets. No beach towels provided.
