Idyllic Cottage Memory Making with Pool & Outdoor Fireplace under the Gazebo,
Stress drops off your shoulders as soon as you escape to "great-grandma's country home" only 5 mins off the freeway! Make lifetime memories in any season. Summer months around the private pool. Warm up from deep Winter with fresh baking in the fully stocked kitchen. The front yard orchard provides blossoms in the Spring, cherries in the Summer, and apples in the Fall. Friends are encouraged to join you instead of severely restricted.
See why guests say, "This is the VRBO that other VRBO's want to be when they grow up." Even those having a working vacation find they are refreshed.
WALK OUT YOUR BEDROOM to a PRIVATE PATIO OVERLOOKING THE ORCHARD. Each bedroom, while opening onto the living room, has direct outside access; great for some independence without disturbing your housemates! Early Risers enjoy the sunrise in the orchard. Night Owls stay up late chatting under the stars. The pool is fabulous for a summer swim under those stars or sitting by the fire making s'mores on cool spring & fall evenings. The winter provides its own magic with snow-covered, hibernating trees resting before spring life returns.
The Cottage & Grounds of the Orchard are the PERFECT GATHERING PLACE FOR FRIENDS & FAMILY! I readily encourage additional visitors on any given day during your stay. If having more than 8-12, please notify the host/co-hosts. There are on-site parking options, no need for your Visitors to park on the street. Permissions for more Visitors and/or small Private Gatherings/Events require permission and some may have an additional fees. IM host via app for information.
PRIVATE POOL SHARED ONLY WITH HOST: My family/cohosts are the only people sharing the pool, gazebo & yards with you. We occasionally have friends visiting during your stay. There is plenty of room for all and we can work around requests for private time.
RAISED GARDEN BEDS behind the Cottage have strawberries to snatch off the vine during much of the summer. We often have extra veggies from those around the pool. Explore the variety of trees, shrubs, and potted flowers that attract butterflies and bees.
WHERE TO GO & WHAT TO DO: Restaurants? Coffee? Grocers? Shops? Walking, Biking, Kayaking? We can let you know what's walkable nearby and spots worth a short drive! My cohosts and I have lived in the area for a long time and love to share our favorite places around Spokane, Eastern Washington, and Northern Idaho.
ACCESSIBILITY NOTES: The Rock Room has doors which are ADA width and minimal transitions between bath/bed, living/dining room. The bathroom is ADA friendly (wide spaces, open under sink, grab-bars), a shower bench is available on request, and a wheelchair ramp to the outside door can be arranged with advance notice. The kitchen is NOT wheelchair friendly.

About the host
Hosted by Cottage VRBO
Inland Northwest native who loves the Spokane area for its 4 Seasons and also loves travel. I'm a Nurse Informaticist (nurse who interprets "IT" so programmers & clinicians better understand each other) and work from home. Seeing the grounds enjoyed by so many is a true pleasure for me.
I have hosted the Idyllic Orchard Cottage as a short-stay property since 2020. Widowed in 2019, I am thankful for the amazing support system of family & friends that helped create The Orchard on Valleyway and the Cottage. Two of my best friends (Regina & Tamara) are cohosts and live on-site. It is not unusual for guests to meet my parents or others in our extended network who occasionally help out.
Why they chose this property
My husband & I fell in love with the Big House for its classic Craftsman beauty. We'd always loved the houses on Spokane's South Hill but had no idea the same was available here in Spokane Valley. We "accidentally" became owners of the Orchard when we had the opportunity to purchase the Cottage next door. Removing the fence between the houses reunited separate lots, bringing their shared history back together.
The neighbors have been welcoming and supportive, even if we rarely get to see each other. It's not unusual for a house in the neighborhood to be hosting a family BBQ and we get to hear muted music and familial laughter.
I love the older yards in surrounding neighborhoods with their big shade trees and there are plenty of walkable streets. We are often able to walk down the middle of the road in early mornings or late evenings. The sound of the freeway or the main drag (Sprague) is distant enough it doesn't disturb and there are still some evenings of the week when even those are quiet and all you can hear are crickets and the occasional frog or owl.
What makes this property unique
It truly feels like you've been transported away from the city just by entering the gate. Taking the Maple tree shaded drive past 24 Apple trees & 2 Cherry trees is like going through a portal in time and space!
There is something about the grounds that lets you feel safe and quiets the soul, even when there is a ton of loud chatter and laughter going on. The first moment that visitors step out and have their first look, there is a deep breath in and a satisfied sigh followed by shoulders visibly dropping ... as if a burden is lightened.
No matter what feeds your spirit, or if you simply need a break, the Cottage seems to provide it for my guests.
I chose the decor & furnishings to give a sense of resting after many travel adventures. The Rock Room has 3 prints I've been hanging on to since the mid-1990's when my husband & I lived in Suriname, South America a largely African population from the former Dutch colony.
The Fireplace Room has Chinese silk prints and other artwork we brought back from our year living in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. My mom-in-law made the prismed quilt which happened to match perfectly!
The Living Room has a vintage map from Rand McNally and prints of iconic scenes by a Spokane artist. The needlwork pillows on the couch were purchased from a Mid-Eastern vendor with a shop in Hoian, Vietnam. There are books about the history of Spokane in it's earliest days of growth from an Indian Trading post to Railroad head for cattle and logging mills.
I share them with my guests so you, too, can feel a sense of exotic adventure ... and maybe, just maybe, you will get to travel to places near and far for your own adventures.
