About this property

Great price! Clean home. Desired lake.

We love the open floor plan of the kitchen / dining / living room. The house is approximately 1400 square feet all on one convenient level with unique retro decor. There is a detached garage you are welcome to use (as well as anything in it - water toys, adult bike, etc). Toward the east side of the home is 278-acre Bass Lake, where we enjoy 100 feet of private frontage. Max lake depth is 16' - plenty deep for waterskiing and tubing. Fishing success is better known for pan-fish, bass and big pike, but there are muskies and walleye.

We have two story windows overlooking a terraced rock pathway to our pier, bench and seasonal 12' rowboat with oars. The boat should be removed from water and beached after use. Small outboard motors are available for rental at nearby Boat Sport and other marinas. These can be used, at owner's risk, on our boat. For added fun, we have a fishing kayak and paddle! The kayak and oars should be stored in the garage. The pier is taken out of the water after October 1, however the boat is always beached year-round at water's edge. If your visit is after this time, the pier may not be available. The wood fireplace and cathedral ceilings in the living room make this the place where you'll love to hang out. In the summer, the lakeside breeze off the large screen doors is great, but we also have two box fans in case you need them. We have 6 patio chairs and 1 lounge chairs on the covered deck overlooking the lake, and a charcoal barbecue. Enjoy privacy on the lake side queen bed bedroom with sliding glass doors. The other bedroom has a double bed and a twin bed. The queen hide-a-bed sofa in the living room sleeps two. There is also a bunk room out in the garage. Although not heated, the room can be a nice escape for the kids to use during summer months. Please note - We don't allow smoking. Up to two pets are welcome - no more, no exceptions. We furnish two adult life jackets, two child life jackets, water toys, games, puzzles, and a 10-speed bike. No laundry machines or services nearby, but Eagle River is 5 miles away and has a laundromat.

Plan on bringing your own disposable items (paper products, soaps, charcoal, lighter fluid, etc). We supply the clean linens, house towels and kitchenware. Our dining room table seats six. You'll want to bring your own fishing gear, skis or snowmobile, depending on when you're visiting! The snowmobile trail runs east and West along Hwy 70 near us. To reach it from the house, just turn left out of the driveway (1572 West Bass Lake Road), then turn right on Cranberry Road, and then when you reach Hwy 70, the trail is right there. It's the same route as driving to the cabin from Eagle River, in reverse. Bring a cell phone because there is no phone service or wifi. We have ice cube trays, but you may choose to bring extra ice.

Bass Lake has no public boat launch, but your private boat can be tied up at our pier. (NOTE: Big Bass Resort is NOT currently offering boat launching as a service).

We allow eight people maximum occupancy. A separate, unheated room in the garage that is NOT a bedroom, has a bunk bed set and a queen pull out sofa. Do not plan on using this room as a bedroom as it is not equipped with heating or cooling.

June, July and August are only available to be reserved for a week at a time, with a Sunday arrival. However, if the calendar shows that we have the week still open, request a three night minimum reservation within two weeks of your arrival. We use a lockbox entry code and you can arrive any time after 3 pm. Your $500 damage deposit is returned about fourteen days by VRBO/HomeAway after departure, if you depart by 10:00 am, general clean up is done, and no unreasonable wear and tear occurs. Our rates include taxes, cleaning and there is no extra pet fee. Make your reservation now and let us help make your vacation dreams come true.

Great Rental - Stayed for Pond Hockey

We had 7 guys stay here for a Pond Hockey tournament. There is a master bedroom with a queen size bed, a second room with a full and a double, and a pull out couch. If you're doing one to a bed, It will sleep 4, so bring some air mattresses if you have more than that. Kitchen had everything we needed, the record player was awesome, as well as the fireplace. Would definitely recommend staying here. Kelly comin'

Comfortable and relaxing stay

The view from the bedroom of the lake was lovely and beautiful. We very much enjoyed sitting by the fire pit every evening. The fireplace inside was gorgeous as well. The cabin was big and spacious and comfortable. I didn't love the 70s decor, but I knew that's what it was like going in and it didn't make my say any less enjoyable. I enjoyed that we were up a little higher and had to walk down a path to the lake and up a path back to the house because I did my workout and used that to my advantage. 💪

Older decor. Great Lake.

Property was great. The lake was good fishing but the only boat launch is very shallow. Our instructions mentioned laundry but there were no appliances. We met the “glassy lady” that cleans and she was very friendly. Had a ke for a fish house that we never found.

Second time just as great as the first!

We spent a grand week at this property, enjoying it thoroughly just like last year. Yes, we are repeat renters. The facility is in excellent shape, well organized and very comfortable. Lake access is excellent, we rented a canoe since we prefer to paddle over rowing. If you like to fish, this is a great option. Hike? Visit the Forest Service location in Eagle River for maps and suggestions. Lounge on the pier and watch the stars, listen to Loons or just enjoy the environment? This is an ideal location. And the management makes it easy! Likely we will visit again next summer.

Beautiful property but not clean

Beautiful property on a beautiful lake. However when we checked and there was someone else’s bar of soap in the shower and popcorn all over the floor. After washing a small part of the floor (I normally don’t feel the need to clean the floors when renting a VRBO, but they seem very dirty ) it was completely a different color. It’s like no one has washed the floor in years.

crowded lake and no Wi-fi

Dowdy....really ugly tile work in kitchen and bath and the kitchen cabinets were on their last leg....the beautiful blond wood walls and ceiling were affronted......I don't think the property description mentioned that there was NO wi-fi or TV. There is a tiny monitor and DVD player......left a few days early......rather be bored at home

Happy Angeler

The pictures and description of the cabin were spot on. My husband and I had a great time at this house. The house is straight out of the 70's for sure. The lake had great fishing, the area around the house was very wooded and fun to explore through. The area restaurants/sites were very fun. I would definitely say that this house would only be suitable for 1 family or 2 couples. It is listed as a 2 bedroom for a reason. The 2 bedrooms in the house are pretty good other wishing that the master bed had come with some sort of pillowtop (we could feel the springs). The third bedroom shown with bunkbeds is in the garage and is miserable. We had fun playing the old records, fishing off the dock, using the boat/motor to fish. The kitchen/dining room/living room were very functional and had everything we could've needed. We would also recommend the following in the area: Lumpy's Bar, Soda Pops, Elmer's Fun Place, Otto's Beer Garden (in minocqua), and Michael's italian restaurant.

Poor property

it was if I had been transported to the 60's and the house was never looked after it was built. Things were broken, wore down, and misrepresented. We came to fish and the lake in which the house is located you couldn't even launch a boat. A cruddy boat is provided with a motor that barely runs. On the third pull the cord broke, which in turn I had to fix in order to move 100 ft off the dock. I will never return. Lesson learned when they post no refunds. That should have been a red flag.

Stinky

This cabin stunk like urine and mold!!!! I emailed property manager, she first responded,... then after cleaning person verified that it smelled...we never heard back from anyone!!! Very disappointed!! Extra room connected to garage has toxic mold in it ...I got sick and had a reaction when I observed the room upon arrival..big mistake! Needed to take an antihistamine due to allergic reaction. We had to tell our oldest daughter not to come up with our grandchildren because our granddaughter is highly allergic to mold and certain bacteria. This place should not be rented until urine and mold is remediated. Compensation should be given back. Vrbo should screen these places before allowing them on their site.

Disappointing and dirty

First, I want to mention that this is a family's cabin - it is not a vacation home. This means that the cabin is full of personal clutter and broken items. As a family cabin I am sure it is a fun retreat for the family, but it was hard to find room to put our own things and the items left for us to use were outdated and worn. The towels should have been retired a long time ago. We had been so excited all summer to rent this cabin, but when we first walked in we were all very disappointed. The floors were FILTHY. We swept, mopped, and scrubbed until some of the many layers of dirt were gone which took up a considerable part of our vacation. The mop left for us was black with mold so we had to buy our own. The kitchen was filled with broken plastic and the cupboards were a mess. There was no place to put our own food items until we cleaned out some of the cabinets. The rugs on the floor were also filthy so we just put them outside. The owner told us that he had washed one of them in the lake which explained a lot. The patio was supposed to come with furniture, but 2 of the loungers were rusty and broken and other chairs were ready to give out. We would have brought our own folding chairs if we had known. The items in the garage (kayak and life preservers) were also very dirty and moldy All of this was a complete distraction from the beautiful location on a lovely lake. We enjoyed the rowboat and the town. Please update this house! It could have been an amazing stay.

Paradise on Earth that needs cleaning

We absolutely feel in love with this cute little cabin on Bass Lake. The check in process was easy and well explained in the notes. First impressions as we entered the cabin: dirty, filthy floors that haven’t seen a sweep or a mop in ages. We couldn’t just walk on it and swept the floors ourselves. We got a half a ft tall mount of dirt by just sweeping the living room. Also, the coffee machine was missing the pot. We contacted the manager and they told us we can buy a pot and they will reimburse us. We decided to just make instant coffee. These are the only issues we had. The cabin is otherwise a wonderful place to be and enjoy the lake breeze and clean pine air. We loved the cabin vibe: retro 70s-80s furnishing, paneling, vinyl records and a player, tons of old books, diaries that belonged to ppl in late 1930s, just so much random stuff that was mesmerizing to read. We enjoyed the nightly bon fires, grilling (although the charcoal grill is on its last breath too). We will be coming back to the cabin but we’ll bring our own grill, coffee pot, bedding sheets (the ones provided had holes) maybe even a vacuum to clean the floors. But we would love to come back and stay there again. It’s a slice of Heaven right here in the backwoods of our own state.

Wonderful week

We had a wonderful time with our children (& the extras). Two of our boys weren't able to join us, but quickly the 3 other kids said hey we could bring friends. Between the bedrooms and pull out couch and the extra bunk house out in the garage there was more than enough room. We all enjoyed looking through the albums and playing the record player. (I actually think the teenagers enjoyed it the most) The lake was clean sandy and just beautiful. The weather was amazing so we got to do a lot of swimming and boating activities (tubing, skiing, fishing). There was a bald eagle that hung around the lake, so we got to see it quite a few times even watched it swoop down for a fish a couple of times. Awesome! The only things we could possibly find to complain about are the no public boat landing, but happy that we could use the one at the Bass Lake Resort, Scott was wonderful (although it is a little pricey $20 in and $20 out), we understand. The other thing was we were terribly disappointed when we couldn't find the laundry room, we thought there was going to be a washer and dryer. (We swear that it was mentioned some where in the advertisement or in the household directions; like, please strip the beds and put the sheets and towels on the washer),but laundromat in Eagle River works just fine. Just so you know neither of these two things would ever stop us from coming there in the future. Thank you for having us. The De Jagers

Nice. Loved it.

The place was a little out dated for me but my parents loved the retro vibes. The netendo brought back memories of my childhood, and got to show my nieces and nephew what video games were like 20 years ago. Loved being on the water during the day and catching toads or sitting by the fire at night. Awesome little shops in town but wished they stayed open a little longer. Lots of daddy longleg spiders but didnt see any ticks and little mosquito.

The property is not maintained very well. It has lots of potential. Being on a lake I would think you would want to see it. Trees could be trimmed. Caught some good sized bluegills the first 2 days, then all the fish shut down for the rest our stay.

Nice getaway

Second time here. The property is very nice and private, the location is outstanding. Great fishing and overall nice lake for swimming. A few things to note: the house needs serious updates, it seems that nothing has been updated since our last stay a few years ago (same leaky fridge with even more problems this time). Cleaning person must not be very thorough, which is sad (the bed sheets in one bed weren't changed). Regardless because of the location, we still loved our stay. Hopefully the owners start taking care of the house! It can become an outstanding property with just a little investment.
