Historic East side. Peaceful garden. Walk to the Plaza & Canyon Rd

** Summer 2024 - Cooling units (mini-splits) for the casa and casita! **

Casa de colores is a beautiful, unique property with tranquil outdoor spaces in a quiet historic neighbhorhood. Yet, it's walking
distance to the Plaza and Canyon Road. The casa blends traditional elements but has modern comforts, including radiant in floor heat, throughout, keeping it warm in winter, and efficient cooling for the summer.

This adobe home features vigas in most rooms, latillas in an expansive kitchen, indoor and outdoor kiva fireplaces, a portal for morning coffee and evening meals. The casa has 2200 square feet all on one floor. The 500 sq ft casita is on the same property with small kitchen and additional bathroom. The original date of construction is unknown but the house was extensively remodeled in 2006 with venetian plaster, in-floor radiant heat and kitchen upgrades. The walls of the house feature original art works. All on one floor, the house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and washer and dryer. The property has a total of 4 bedrooms and 3 baths.

For more information about the house see (https://casa-de-colores.com/home-page/)
For stays during summer or winter, please visit this page (https://casa-de-colores.com/special-considerations/).

The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking equipment and starter coffee., and also features a large eucalyptus table, comfortable for all to gather and linger over reunion meals. The house has many private spaces so that 8 people staying will have room to settle and find a quiet corner for peace.

A portal spans the entire front of the house for cool summer evenings and morning coffee. An outdoor patio with kiva fireplace and barbecue off of the master bedroom is a guest favorite for outdoor meals. The yard is landscaped with xeric natives species, including chamisa, and aspen. There are up to 3 off-street parking spots depending on the size of the vehicles.

The house is walking distance to the spa at La Posada, or a short drive to 10,000 Waves in the foothills of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. It is about 30 minutes from the casa door to the lift at Ski Santa Fe.

This was a fantastic VRBO! Very clean, comfortable and well appointed. Walking distance to the Plaza as well. A bit tricky to find since the street numbers don't always make sense being an old community but we found it and would definitely go back again!

Charming Home

We loved our stay at this cozy and comfortable home for our son’s wedding. It had everything we needed and the casita was perfect for our daughter, son in law, and infant grandson.

Santa fe pre-Christmas vacation

We very much enjoyed our stay. Overall it was great. The minor thunfs below were offset by the charming house, proximity to the plaza and attractions and the cozy fireplaces. For 8 people, we ran out of TP, Dishwash soap and garbage bags. The towls had an odd not fresh smell.

Perfect home for large families

My husband and I stayed here for a week in October, with three of our adult kids and their spouses - we were in Santa Fe for another daughter's wedding and had a few family get-togethers in this most welcoming property! The home and casita were beautiful and beautifully decorated, the location is perfect - a walk or very short drive to the heart of Santa Fe. We hope to come back to such a pretty city and would love to stay in this home again!

Beautiful property, great location

Leigh's home and casita are welcoming, clean, quiet, and very conveniently located. We stayed with our two sons, their wives, and infants. The main home was spacious and comfortable enough for my husband and me, our older son, his wife, and baby, and the casita accommodated our younger son, his wife, and baby. Leigh had a crib and high chair for our use and recommended a rental agency for the other crib and high chair, which worked out smoothly. The property has a lovely garden and a large covered porch where we relaxed, ate, and played games. Everything is well maintained and the home and casita are comfortably furnished and very clean. My husband mentioned when we returned home that the pillow he used there was more comfortable than his own pillow. We walked to either Canyon Road and/or the Plaza everyday from the property. It couldn't have been more conveniently located for the things we wanted to do. So many great shops, restaurants, and parks were within walking distance. We also visited the Audubon Bird Sanctuary to hike and tour the historic home there, and that was a very short drive. Leigh was a wonderful host. The first night it was apparent that the cooling system was not functioning properly. I messaged Leigh the next morning and she was at the door 15 minutes later, and called a repair crew. The issue was resolved in a few hours and was perfect the rest of our stay. She also sent me a recommendation for a lovely walk nearby during her visit.

Serene home in Santa Fe

We walked into this immaculate home and I immediately felt at peace. It is quiet, well laid out and had everything a family of 6 could want. Our older daughter stayed in the casita with her spouse which was lovely. The master bedroom is spacious, private and quiet. We sat outside when it was warm and enjoyed the yard. The best part of our visit to Santa Fe was this lovely, peaceful retreat.

Girl's Trip to Santa Fe

We had the best time! The house was a perfect choice for us. We were all very comfortable. The location is convenient, private and quiet. The host was very nice, helpful and responded quickly to our questions. If we are lucky enough to come back to Santa Fe, we would love to stay here again.

Great RoomY Home

This home is traditional Santa Fe...well appointed and roomy. Very clean and very responsive host. We were very comfortable for a family of four adults and one child. The property is said to be within walking distance of the downtown plaza but older folks might find it a challenge as it is all uphill.

Wonderful stay in Santa Fe

Our group of college friends from way back had a wonderful time staying at the Casa de Colores. There was plenty of space inside and out to gather and reminisce. The kitchen was very well appointed and we enjoyed cooking a number of meals together. The house is beautifully decorated inside and out, and very comfortable. It is situated a short walk to town, and has a beautiful garden. Would absolutely stay here again.

Lovely Home in a great neighborhood.

This is a wonderful property. Close enough to locations if you want to walk. It is located on dirt/gravel roads which does make walking a bit of a challenge if you have difficulties walking or would require assistance. We drove everywhere as several members of our group have mobility issues. Property was clean and well managed. Property manager was very responsive and helpful on multiple occasions when contacted. There were some user errors with the stove (couldn't figure out how to change temp higher than 400 degrees) and with the thermostat (couldn't figure out how to regulate) but all in all those were minimal 'cons' to a wonderful stay at this property. Would not hesitate to book again should we find ourselves back in the area. Thank you for adding to our awesome family memories!

Loving Santa Fe

It was really a remarkable home. So beautiful and so well appointed with absolutely everything. Wi-Fi is a bit spotty but a lot of that is due to the thickness of the walls which makes it cool in summer and warmer in winter. Leigh responded quickly to needs. I got Covid on the plane but that means I get a do over!

Great location, privacy, spacious, beautiful

We loved the location. It was about 15-20 minute easy walk to the plaza. The little neighborhood was so close to town yet felt further away with the dirt road. Very cool neighborhood. It was up on a hill. It offered privacy, we could visit on the porch at night without feeling like we were disturbing neighbors. The house was spacious, clean, beautiful. Up to date appliances, beds comfortable.

Best value in Santa Fe!

Wow! This home is a gem. Our group of 7 (family of 4 + family of 3) had a fabulous time. The main house and casita are well-equipped and we loved the outdoor spaces. While the house is a bit difficult to find, the location is unbeatable - very easy to get to Canyon Rd and the Plaza on foot or short drive. The property owner was very accommodating and responsive.

Santa Fe home, casita, and courtyard.

We were a group of six active 65+ visiting Santa Fe for the first time. The property is totally in character with the Southwest experience. The home is as shown in the listing. We particularly enjoyed sitting at the outdoor table for coffee in the morning and drinks at night. It’s a bit of a hike to walk to the plaza, but certainly doable if you don’t want to hassle with parking.

Family Fun

This property is fantastic. A wonderful southwest feel inside and out. Love how spread out the bedrooms were so we could all have a bit of space at the end of long days of togetherness. The kitchen has everything needed-very nice that the basics were there too. I wish it was a bit warmer when we stayed so we could take better advantage of all the outdoor space. Walking into town or canyon road was an easy walk and that way folks had a bit more flexibility to come and go without needing more than one car. Super easy checkin/out, too. Would 100% recommend for families or couples. .

About the host

Host profile image
I grew up on the east coast in a suburban community of New York city. I've been in the West since I attended graduate school in San Diego, where I now live with my family. I was a Chemistry & Biochemistry Professor at the University of San Diego for many years but retired to spend more time with my family and to develop science enrichment activities for K-12 grades. I am currently teaching adjunct at a community college in San Diego, and enjoying it.

Why they chose this property

We have visited Santa Fe many times over the years as a family and I knew exactly where I wanted to buy a house. We are thrilled with this location. It's peaceful, has a rustic rural feel but we are minutes walking to the heart of Santa Fe, the plaza. We walk to restaurants, galleries and museums. We hike up the arroyo trails right out of the neighborhood into Ft. Marcy park. La Posada is nearby (0.5 mile) for a drink on the patio or a massage at the spa. We can take the shuttle to the Albuquerque airport or to the Opera from nearby the hotels.

What makes this property unique

Normally not an adventurous decorator, the Casa was finished with vibrant colors in the plaster walls. The colors gave me the license to be more playful with the art and furnishings. Our home is decorated with the art from a good friend's gallery in Albuquerque (Sumner & Dene) and from art that friends of ours have made. The natural burl edge kitchen table was crafted by a friend from a eucalyptus tree that was destined for the landfill, victim to a construction project in Rancho Santa Fe in San Diego County.
