We are excited to share our lovely, large (2500 square feet), beautiful home situated right on the St. Louis River. Kayak, canoe, fish, or just enjoy the views from this scenic location. There is a large yard (~1 acre) with great privacy. The sunsets are amazing and the river in this area is very private, gentle, and scenic. The house is located near all the great north shore amenities. It is 10 minutes to Jay Cooke State Park, Spirit Mountain, and the Lake Superior Zoo; 15 minutes to Mont Du Lac, Pattison State Park (largest waterfall in Wisconsin), and only 20 minutes to canal park in Duluth. There are so many great places nearby to hike, mountain bike, fish, frisbee golf, golf, etc. You can access hundreds of miles of 4-wheeler and snowmobile trails from the house, and there are tons of cross-country ski trails nearby. The St. Louis River is known for great walleye, bass, and muskie fishing. It really is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. The home is a charming 1920s house with high ceilings, great woodwork, and is large enough to comfortably sleep 8-10 people. It has a separate sun room, living room, and dining room, so there is ample space to watch TV, play games, do a puzzle, etc. We also provide a charcoal grill, yard games, a canoe, and 2 kayaks so you can spend the whole day enjoying time at the house if that is your preference. There is parking in the driveway and carport for 4 vehicles. We have a list of our favorite activities and adventures in the area that we share with guests. We love this area so much and hope you will, too!
A few notes about the property so we are sure it will meet your needs and expectations. There are bathrooms on the 2nd floor and basement, but no main floor bathroom. Also, all bedrooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The 3rd floor bedroom is accessed via stairs from a 2nd floor bedroom. There are stairs down to the shoreline of the river, but not too many. There is a train that runs near the house during the day and night, and it does sound it's horn. This could be disturbing to light sleepers. We sleep with the windows closed and some white noise (fans, music, etc.), so it isn't an issue for us. Property is licensed rental with Douglas County, ID #: ALED-CVNMFZ.

Hi Douglas. Thanks for the review and I'm glad you enjoyed your time at the house. The north shore is such a great area for a wide range of activities.
Beautiful property, great location. Scenic private and authentic home built in 1920. Many areas to sit and take in the beautiful River view. Spectacular sunset views. Great choice for a quiet getaway!

Thanks for the review and photos. We really love sunsets at the home and enjoying the nearby nature.
My family and I really enjoyed our stay. There were gorgeous views of the river and train that passes by every so often, honestly the train didn’t bother us. Everything was perfect!

Beautiful property, well maintained and easy to get to. We got up on Sunday morning and saw two eagles sitting in the tree. Awesome sight. Loved the river access!
Overall it was a nice place to stay. great location if you are fishing the St. Louis River. The frequent train rolling by is a little annoying when you are trying to sleep, but the property owner does disclose that.

Thanks for the review Rob. The trains can be an issue for light sleepers, which is why we provide white noise machines. I'm glad you got to enjoy the river.
Very impressive and interesting house with nice access to the river. The only complaint was that two of our party had trouble sleeping because of the nearby train traffic. The owner had clearly warned us, so there is no complaint there, and the other four in our group had no problem.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. The trains can be troublesome for very light sleepers. We find that using the white noise machines or window air conditioners usually resolves any issues.
Stayed at this property with my family as we were in Duluth for a wedding. Wonderful place; plenty of rooms for all of us and so much fun having direct access to the water.Would highly recommend if you want a getaway in the Duluth/Superior area. Easy access to everything you need.

What a charming place! There's easy access to the St. Louis river and a canoe with several kayaks. It's private but I let 10 minutes from shopping for quick trips to pick up your 'forgetables'.

Thanks for the review Matt. We do enjoy that it feels very private / rural, but is close to amenities.
Usually come up for Grandmas marathon. This year I couldn’t run so we came just to vacation and fish . Enjoyed the whole stay from the beautiful sunsets to catching fish off the dock. The river was a little low but we were stilll able to catch fish in the boat. Let be the house and all the amenities

Thanks Teri. We are glad you enjoy the house and the river. Thanks for taking such good care of our property.
The house is beautiful! Very historic. It was fun to be on the river and there are several state parks nearby. We went to Jay Cooke and Amnicon State Parks. Beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails. We didn't get to Pattison State Park but it has a waterfall that's almost as tall as Niagra Falls. The town of Oliver is very small so not much to do there, but easy to get to Duluth where there's lots to do.The price of this VRBO is very reasonable and the neighborhood is quiet, other than the train. Would stay there again

Beautiful location that our entire family thoroughly enjoyed! Comfortable house with all the amenities that is perfect for families. Spent much of our time in the gorgeous sun room above the water, and took out the kayaks a few times. Many special touches throughout that add to the experience. We would love to return!

Beautiful historic home on the river, just over the Wisconsin border. Very quick drive to Duluth, Mont-du-lac and Jay Cooke State Park. Train was audible but with the white noise machine, it was not a major issue. Ample room for everyone to spread out, appreciated having two bathrooms.

Why they chose this property
Duluth and the north/south shore of Lake Superior is our favorite place to travel. We settled on this property in Oliver, WI due to its proximity to Duluth, Superior, Jay Cook State Park, and being right on the lovely St. Louis River. Due to the minimal development on this stretch of the river, it is a great place to kayak, fish, and enjoy peacefulness of nature.
What makes this property unique
We have a love for old, historic homes and this house has all the charm you could want. It has high ceilings, lovely woodwork, and unique built-ins. Also, the size is great for 2-3 families to enjoy time together. The outdoor areas are great for yard games, grilling, and of course enjoying the lovely sights of the St. Louis River. Whether it is a perfect Duluth day, or overcast and a little rainy, we can enjoy the property and all it has to offer.
