About this property
Indoor tree house & swivel firepit grill. Close to Kooser & Laurel Hill Parks.
Recently renovated to add a master bath, laundry room, and create a kid friendly indoor treehouse out of attic storage space in the bedrooms, Mountain Grove is relaxing and fun during the fall, winter, spring or summer. Located in the heart of Laurel Highlands in a little neighborhood of Conservation Civilian Corps cabins less than one mile from Kooser State Park and nestled between Hidden Valley, Seven Springs and Laurel Mountain ski resorts, this family and pet friendly cabin in the woods has everything you need to enjoy an outdoor getaway. Travelers have enjoyed this cozy home in the mountains as a solo rejuvenating escape for 1, getaway for 2, a family vacation, or a get together with friends/extended family.
Nearby attractions include hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, golfing, star gazing, bird watching, restaurants, spas and more. Enjoy the many trails and ponds nearby at Kooser (2 minute drive), Laurel Hill (7 minute drive) or Forbes (12 minute drive) State Parks. Bike the GAP trail at Rockwood just 15 minutes away. Check out the local resorts for food, golf, spas, ziplines, mountain biking, special events, skiing and more at Hidden Valley (5 minute drive), Seven Springs (17 minute drive), or Laurel Mountain (30 minute drive). Peruse the local towns of Somerset (15 minute drive), Ligonier (30 minute drive) or Ohiopyle (34 minute drive) for restaurants, shopping, white water rafting and trails. Local attractions also include Idlewild, Caddyshack, Living Treasures Animal Park, Laurel Caverns, Jennerstown Speedway, Fort Ligonier and more! Glade Pike Winery tasting room is just up the road with live music on Saturday nights as well. Check out laurelhighlands.com for more ideas.
Even though you will feel like you are in the middle of the woods in a peaceful setting, if you forget anything a gas station/convenience store is only a 2 minute drive away and a grocery store is only a 20 minute drive away. Once you settle in, you will enjoy a cozy, traditional cabin in the woods with spacious front deck, outdoor combo bonfire/grill (Charcoal or wood for cooking or simply relaxing. One bundle of wood is provided to start your vacation, but there are places nearby to purchase charcoal or more wood.), gas fireplace, and indoor treehouse for kids ideally ages 6 - 12.
Kids love climbing the stairs next to the tree mural because it feels like they are climbing into an indoor treehouse with repurposed wood accents on the walls. As you walk in, you will see a mini window above the kitchen area, so adults in the kitchen or living room downstairs can hear the kiddos playing upstairs or opt to close the window so the kids can sleep while parents still hang out downstairs. The creates a fun, spacious cabin for families.
Excellent WiFi service will help you stay connected to friends, family, and work (Gasp! Only if necessary...you should be relaxing!) or allow you to finally binge watch that series you always wanted to see.
A variety of games, cornhole on the front deck or in the yard, and the bonfire pit that can be used as a grill with wood or charcoal will help you stay entertained and unplug from screens too!
3 bedrooms and 2 baths accommodates a maximum of 8 people and 2 well behaved, house trained dogs. There is an additional $30 per night pet fee when fur family joins you at the cabin. Please be sure to check the pet box when booking to pay during your reservation, or you will need to pay it before your arrival.
If you have additional people or pets in your party, please message to inquire about also renting Blue Mountain Retreat (with terraced backyard including hot tub, bonfire circle, picnic table and gas grill also accommodating up to 8 people. See vrbo.com/3579454 ) adjacent to Mountain Grove. Multiple families have enjoyed renting both cabins for relaxing family reunions or birthday celebrations.
The location off of 31 makes it easily accessible year round, but far enough off the road to be peacefully tucked in the woods. A limit of 3 cars per cabin has to be maintained because there is no overflow parking available nearby (AWD or 4WD vehicles during the winter months of snow are required for ease of access). Visitors should be accounted for in your reservation.
We cannot wait to host you! Feel free to reach out with any questions about additional attractions or inquiries.

About the host
Hosted by Lisa Dietz

My husband and I love to rehab properties and keep a few gems to ourselves that we like to share with others. We love being close to hiking, biking, skiing, restaurants and that feeling like you are going back to a simpler time. Playing board games and hanging out with friends and family around a campfire make all of the hard work renovating houses worth it. Please come enjoy our home that we lovingly and creatively reinvented.
Why they chose this property
The Laurel Highlands has everything you need to enjoy the outdoors! Trails abound: hiking, biking, cross country and downhill skiing, and snowmobiling. The property is perfectly situated between all 3 resorts (Hidden Valley, Seven Springs, and Laurel Mountain) so that you can explore one every day or even two in one day! Dining close by includes options for every palate from a cash only mom and pop pizza shop to fine dining and everything in between. Just ask us about our favorite recommendations. We'd be happy to help you!
What makes this property unique
This rustic cabin sits next door to Blue Mountain Retreat that we renovated in 2020 during Covid. We knew this would be a perfect situation for multi family get togethers so each family could have a place to stay of their own but also interesting spaces to gather. We love the versatility and fun spaces we created.
In this cabin, we repurposed some hard to reach storage space in each bedroom, added support beams and a breezeway to connect them, and then redesigned the space into an indoor treehouse hang out gaming and sleepover area for kids. There are two gaming chairs, 4 bean bag chairs and a bean bag queen bed...all kid size (ages 5 - 12 ideal) and approved! Our son and his friends and cousins love it! We hope you do too! The front porch was repainted and is the perfect place to hang out and listen to the rain or eat at the picnic table. The bonfire pit doubles as a wood fired or charcoal grill since the top swivels (use oven mitts ~ metal conducting heat is real!) so that you can add wood or charcoal easily.
