Welcome! The Captain’s Cottage is located in the seaport Village of Greenport on the North Fork of Long Island. George Graber was a Steamship Captain and the son of a renowned Schooner Smack Captain named William Anderson Graber. He grew up one street over on Fifth Street, and when he married his wife May Ellen Locker he moved in with her family to this cottage. More recently it was the home to the National SCRABBLE Association. Just a few minutes’ walk from the restored 1880s home are the Shelter Island Ferry, the Hampton Jitney and the Long Island Railroad train station. When you arrive at this beautiful spot you won’t believe you are only 100 miles from midtown Manhattan. Within a few blocks of this cozy home you can be sunbathing at the Fifth Street Beach, fishing off the Railroad dock, playing with your children at the beach park or walking to town to sample one of the fine restaurants Greenport boasts. Why not try a tasting at the local Greenport Harbor Brewery or learn how to shuck your own oysters at the dockside Little Creek Oyster? A comprehensive sampling of local menus will be provided at the cottage. The 2-story cottage is at the corner of the Main Road and Fourth Streets, sleeps 6 and features three bedrooms: Queen, full and a room with two twin beds. There are 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, dining room, living room and a small den-home office or game room. There is ample on-site parking and a screened porch for outdoor dining. This is a no-smoking property. The Cottage is just a few miles from Peconic Landing, so a convenient place to stay if visiting relatives there. Perfect for families. Sorry NO pets. No parties. Property owners live 4 blocks away and will be happy to share information during your visit. Please note - the electronic calendar on this site does not necessarily reflect up-to-the-moment bookings. Charming house, plenty of room, great host, comfortable beds, good air conditioning. Terrific neighborhood, easy walk to town. Only negative was the traffic noise from Front Street (but ear plugs were provided).
Very walkable to town and easy to access the waterfront, restaurants, and shops. Perfect location for exploring Greenport and the nearby wineries. Jane was a very accommodating host.
This house was perfect for our weekend getaway from Jersey City! It’s so close to town and all the restaurants as well as the ferry to shelter island. Jane was always available and easy to communicate with! Highly recommend this place to stay!
We had a party of 6 (4 adults and 2 kids) and it was the perfect size for us. It was clean and comfortable with a short walk to Greenport and the ferry to go to Shelter Island. We loved having breakfast in the sunroom each morning. Jane was very attentive making it a wonderful and relaxing stay!
We absolutely loved our stay at the Cottage! Jane was wonderful to work with- knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming. We had delicious cookies waiting for us when else arrived, which was a lovely touch. Location is perfect- short walk to the ferry and downtown. Would absolutely stay again!
We recently stayed at the restored cottage that used to be the National Scrabble Headquarters. It was a wonderful experience. The host created a warm, comfortable atmosphere in this charming cottage. It was clean, had great amenities and our grandchildren loved the game room. Everything about the house was interesting, comfortable and fun. Also, the house was very well located. It was an easy walk to every place we wanted to visit in town.
Great location, very clean, comfortable accommodations. It was a pleasure communicating with Jane. We enjoyed our meals around the dining table, sitting on the front porch and playing scrabble.
Very cozy, clean house with plenty of places to relax. The house is within walking distance to shops, restaurants, the beach and the ferry. Our host Jane was wonderful. She was in contact with us before our trip, met us at the house when we arrived and answered all our questions.

Cute cottage, close to adorable town of Greenport.
First of all, Jane was a lovely hostess - every question answered and every need attended to. The house itself was immaculately clean, beds were comfortable and linens provided. It's just the right size for two couples or a family with 2-3 children, and we managed 3 couples for a short stay. We only cooked breakfast-but kitchen is well equipped, including herbs and spices, if you plan to cook more. A very nice IGA is just a few blocks away. We would definitely go back.
we fully enjoyed this lovely home, just a walk from everything from fine restaurants and ice cream shops to the beach. the spacious home had not only a family room, dining area with a full set table and a game room( lots of scrabble will be played!) but also a perfect screened in back patio where we had our breakfasts. we
lover the bedrooms upstairs, each was very private. this was the perfect home to stay in for a visit to Greenport, and just steps from the train stop! we’ll be back! Jane was a
lovely just, offering tips and suggestions -and a little treat for us to enjoy.
The cottage in Pipes Cove was the perfect location to celebrate the retirement of a friend whose first love is being on the beach. The location of the property was exactly what the description noted with 3 great bedrooms and 2 baths for 4 women, and lots of neat spaces to gather. The screened-in porch was a sanctuary in the rain, the front porch was great for people watching and the den was a comfy conversation haven. The quaint seaport village with its great restaurants and boutiques is within a few blocks walking distance. Our host, Jane, could not be more helpful in planning our visit and personally greeted us when we arrived. Her kindness throughout the process was unmatched! We have all said we are coming back with spouses and other friends!
Our stay at the Captain's Cottage was excellent. Firstly, it is in a prime location for all of the activities in Greenport - only steps away from the main downtown area. Inside, it is charming and functional with wifi, space, and many other comfy, cozy amenities. Finally, our property manager Jane was so helpful with our stay. She reached out before our stay with proactive tips for traffic and check-in, and was available to answer any questions throughout our stay. Further, she even helped us when we had forgotten items in the cottage after leaving. While our visit was short, it was also certainly sweet and I will be happy to return the next time I'm visiting Greenport! Thanks Jane.
