Good location - Falling apart

The finishing an are so cheap. The bathroom has edging on the floor that has fallen off and has a rusty nail sticking out of it. The floors are coming up. The beds sink. But if you just need a place to crash, it works. It is a decent location about 2 miles from all the sites.

Pictures are better than reality

Pictures make this place look much better than reality. The bathroom was well-below standards. Only one glass door that covers 1/2 the shower; the other half has a shower curtain. The tub floor was not clean, the faucet wasn't even attached to the wall and the wall board looked mold-riden. We had bugs in the shower both mornings. Owners need to focus on finishings. Many gaps along the ceiling, paint sloppily applied, floor boards have gaps, doors don't close, rugs with rolled up edges which creates a tripping hazard. And the downstairs apartment was noisy in the morning. You could hear the shower and conversations as if they were on your floor. I don't plan on staying here next time I'm in town.

Passable but Disappointing

Decent stay, would not stay there again. My biggest issue was with the lack of communication from the owner and them repeatedly ignored communication from me. I reached out with a couple of questions about the property and check-in process (during booking AND after booking it) through the VRBO app and other listed e-mail addresses that went ignored. I did eventually get a response AFTER the stay and it was too late to help. Other than that - Pros: - Nice Neighborhood - Simple and effective locks - Comfortable Beds - Large TVs - Great sit/stand convertible desk - Unit itself pretty clean - Pet Friendly - No additional fees from owners or ridiculous check-out standards Cons: - Unresponsive Owner (See Above) - Very little space other than bedrooms. Not sure where the 'Living Room' and 'Dining Room' (gym equipment?!) are supposed to be that they claim, they do not exist. - Air Conditioning unit is poor quality at best. Was 79F when I checked in, turned the AC on set to 70. 18 hours later it was 78F in the unit. - Rest of building the unit is in (not the unit itself) is very dirty. You have to go through common hallways and staircases to get to the unit and they were all dirty, cluttered, and one of the hand rails for the stairs was not connected to the wall. - No Freezer. There is a fridge, but no freezer. The frozen groceries I brought with me were wasted. - Bathroom far from 'luxiourious'

Why they chose this property

Roughly two miles north of the eastern end of the National Mall, Bloomingdale is a small neighborhood of about 12 blocks. It extends from Channing Street south to Florida Avenue, on the southeast side of Howard University. Bloomingdale is literally picture-perfect -- it was even featured in the opening credits of the Netflix series, House of Cards. The colorful brownstones with turrets aren't all people love about this popular neighborhood. It is the location of Crispus Attucks Park, a popular green space with terrific views.

Bloomingdale contains two commercial districts. The first, along Rhode Island Avenue, is packed with bars and restaurants -- including popular favorites the Red Hen and Bacio Pizzeria. Florida Avenue and North Capitol Street also offer restaurants, bars, and a few other businesses. Bus stops are scattered throughout the neighborhood, taking residents quickly to nearby stops or into downtown DC.
