About the host
Hosted by Marguerite
Our family moved from Lancaster County, Amish farm country in Pennsylvania to Fort Collins, Colorado in 1997. We had vacationed Colorado and loved the scenery, weather, and fun loving people. We enjoy hiking, flyfishing, biking, cross country skiing and the beautiful Colorado sunny skies and wild flowers. We skied more when our 3 sons were younger. They are now off to their own careers so we have time to share our home, particularly in ski season but also some weeks in the summer.
Why they chose this property
We chose to buy our home in Steamboat in 2002 after an extensive search of Colorado's ski towns. We particularly liked the welcoming western appeal of Steamboat. It has the home town feel that many of the other ski resort areas lack. There are so many activities year round for the family (check out the Steamboat Springs site for the dates and details) Steamboat also provides easy access with a 3 hour drive from Fort Collins that is not congested like I-70 which can be a tough ride with its long lines of traffic. The airport at Hadden has direct flights for many of our family back east.
What makes this property unique
Each bedroom has it own private bath with bathtub or shower which works well with our family and our guests. The rooms are bright and pleasant and the living room with the gas fireplace is cozy and warm.
Steamboat Springs, while having fantastic champagne powder snow levels, also is lower in elevation than some of the I-70 ski resorts. This is a particular benefit to our friends who live at lower altitude and sometimes have difficulty adjusting to the high altitude on the I -70 corridor. The high altitude in those resorts can cause discomfort to people susceptible to altitude sickness.
