Mountain views, birdsong, simplicity and a clean comfy place to stay-we loved it. Nothing fancy here but this owner thought of everything that made our stay pleasurable.
Instead of cruising, my husband and I drove from New Mexico to take his mom to this house (because it specifically stated it has a handicap ramp and shower). My brothers in law came for a BBQ, and all was perfect. The rest of time we relaxed and enjoyed the solitude. Great vacation!
The views are amazing. You can see the sunset fading over the mountains while you relax on the porch swing. The mountain air is so clean. Lots of deer visit the house and roam alongside the roads.
The jacuzzi was refreshing at the end of the day. The master bedroom has one of those mechanical beds and was fun to play with.
We liked the kitchen in this house. It's light and roomy. But no bottle opener. make sure you bring your own.
The only drawback is the house is so out of the way, you have to travel a while just to get fresh fruit and vegetables. We went to Walmart for our shopping, about 25 minutes from the house.
I recommend driving over the Olive Bridge and enjoying the scenery. It's a classical stone bridge with a spectacular view on both sides of the reservoir. We didn't know NYC water comes from here.
There is a park just over the bridge with a magnificent fountain—something unusual in the middle of nowhere.
Overall we had a nice time.
We checked in on the Saturday of presidents weekend to ski Belleaire mountain. Now, I'm not a skier and my husband is so it was more for him and our sons, who also ski. So, as a result, I didn't plan perfectly!!
The house is about 30 minutes from belleaire in one direction, and hunter mountain in the other. The drive to belleaire wasn't bad at all. Since my younger son is 6, he couldn't ski all day, so he and I spent a lot of time in the lodge when it would have been nice to return to the house. But that's just like I said that we really didn't plan great.
The house itself was great. The decor is dated but that didn't bother us. My 6 yo was in love with a lot of the "old-fashioned" things and cried when we told him we were only staying two nights. They skied all day and then we relaxed at the house at night, talking, watching movies, and completing a jigsaw puzzle.
It was a great place to stay and we will likely return, maybe for fall color and hiking, and maybe for more skiing.

Thank you for visiting. You were all lovely guests and I hope you get to stay in our home in the fall. The view of the mountains from our porch swing is beautiful all throughout the year, especially during the fall foilage. Thank you again!
