A Wonderful Peaceful Retreat
This retreat was charming, filled with warmth & light. Beautifully furnished, an extremely comfortable bed. We loved the view of Caspian Lake.
Behind the property was a rustic trail in a hushed woodland. We were forewarned to bring good shoes (April mud season) so took a gorgeous snowy walk on a warm sunny afternoon, many chickadees on the way to a rushing wilderness brook.
Location was great for us; 10 min from Buffalo Mountain Co-op (Hardwick), far enough from civilization that the night sky was stunning--every childhood star still glows! Coffee in bed watching birds rouse the sleepy clouds. It was so nice to get far away from traffic & our noisy neighbors, yet roads were good--we needed no 4WD.
TV & no problems w/ wifi--but this really is a special place to escape all that hustle-bustle. Would also be a great solo writer's retreat (no stovetop, but had a microwave, oven, coffee maker & mini-fridge).
Montpelier was laid-back, 45 min through rolling hillsides. Woodbury Mountain Toys jam-packed with puzzles, books, gifts. The Skinny Pancake had delicious shakes & sweet potato fries. (We'd hoped to try Hippie Chickpea too--sadly still recovering from 2023's historical flood.) Good browsing at Bear Pond Books & Artisans Hand Craft Gallery. If we'd had another day we'd have visited Fairbanks Planetarium in St. Johnsbury.
Xin & Eric were extremely kind & helpful with suggestions. I also miss having dogs so I had a soft spot for Sunny's friendly enthusiasm. We loved our stay!
