About this property
Private Family Retreat, Lake Access, XC Ski- IN/OUT
Our family retreat is set on a hilltop with sweeping views of farmland, distant mountains and Caspian Lake. Inside, guests will enjoy a large open-concept kitchen and dining area, a comfy family room with a wood-burning stove, books, games, puzzles, television, sound system, and a Steinway grand piano. Amenities include access to the beautiful & private Lodge Beach, where guests will find a pristine lake with clear water, a sandy beach, boats, and a floating dock to swim to and dive from.
The walk from the house to the Lodge, and then to the Lodge Beach is about 15 beautiful minutes, but driving is also an option. If going as a group it's nice to carpool down when possible in order to save space at the beach parking lot. A bike ride around the lake is about 7 miles of hilly dirt roads, and a drive to Willey's General Store will take 5 minutes. A good rule of thumb is that all kinds of hiking, jogging, walking or bike riding can be done right from the house, but if you require supplies etc., you will need to drive. The driveway at the house can accommodate 4+ cars comfortably.
The house faces south and is flooded with light year-round! Much of the land is in "Current Use", meaning it is preserved as farmland and is maintained by a local farmer who uses it to grow hay for his cows. There is a neighboring summer house in an adjacent lot but our retreat is very private, peaceful, and otherwise secluded. All-in-all, this is a dream retreat for families who love the NorthEast Kingdom in general and Greensboro in particular.

About the host
Hosted by Gamble Staempfli
This has been our family vacation home since it was built by Julian Scholl on the top of the field behind the Highland Lodge in 1976. It has now passed down to the next generation of family to mantain and enjoy. I live in Putney, Vermont and manage it.
Why they chose this property
Our family has been vacationing in Greensboro since the summer of 1959. We love the lake and the town and often stayed at the Highland Lodge. My father dreamed of having his own place to gather the family and was thrilled when Dave Smith, owner of the Lodge, was willing to sell him the property along with permanent beach rights.
What makes this property unique
Access to the best beach on the lake, with privacy and beautiful views. Steinway grand piano in the living room. Beautiful winter cross country ski trails maintained by the Craftsbury Nordic Center go right up the hill near the house.
