We are proudly a true VRBO'er, the most important part being By Owner. That means we offer the attention to detail, cleanliness, and amenities that you would expect from owners who are intimately and directly involved with the care and management of their cabin. It also means we have another life! and are NOT on duty 24/7 (except for emergencies of course).
We are giving you our best, and we expect your best in return. We do not care to be treated like the Economy Inn. We hope you can tell the difference and treat us accordingly. We are not your best option for bargain hunters, but do provide one of the best values available for quality of your intimate mountain vacation experience.
Hills 'n Holler is our second vacation rental. HnH is located behind our first, rental called Wagon Wheel Ridge, which you can find here on VRBO at listing #161442. We invite you read our reviews at WWR to get an idea of the kind of experience we seek to give you.
The most consistent reaction we have from guests, family and friends is that Hills 'n Holler is equal to Wagon Wheel Ridge, and some prefer HnH because it is more spacious. They definitely have two different 'characters.' Both are always far more beautiful than expected to first-time visitors. Pictures don’t do them justice. Beautiful, private setting. Fully landscaped and decorated.
There is something for both him and her. She will appreciate the tasteful and well-appointed rooms. He will appreciate the Large screen TV and home theatre systems for watching the game. Both will appreciate the private, cozy, quiet, natural setting. You will simply enjoy! HnH is fun, relaxing, beautiful, serene, exciting, peaceful, private. It is close to nature, quaint, cozy, comforting. There is a warmth that is hard to put into words, that you cant see in pictures.
Hills 'n Holler is a little bit rustic, a little bit modern casual elegance. It is the darn near perfect cozy cabin tucked away in the hills. If you are looking for an extraordinary, peaceful, private and relaxing getaway, We'd love to have ya' drop by!
On vacation in the mountains…Its All About The HOT TUB and The View…The tub itself is a 6 seat Gulf Coast Spa LX5000 with lights, waterfall, and aromatherapy. And...drum roll please...we positioned the hot tub so you can enjoy the mountain view from the tub...you can truly soak it all in.
Do you want a getaway that sticks with you for weeks. A vacation experience you cant help but tell your family and friends about? This is the place. Right here. Enjoy a week or a weekend - grillin', chillin', hiking, biking, kayaking. Or just snuggle in watching your favorites - sports, movies, classic TV - or maybe some quiet time, catching up on some reading.
Upstairs we have a comfy-cozy Living Room, Master Bedroom and Dining Room all open to each other, with a tall vaulted ceiling. The overall effect is cozy spaciousness. The windows are trimmed in tree bark. We gave the vaulted wooden ceiling a soft buffed effect, and almost all of the furniture has been custom made for us. We have a see-thru wood-burning fireplace that opens to the living room and the kitchen
The Living Room has a wall full of large windows to give you a full time view. You can enjoy the game in sheer audio and visual pleasure on the Sony 46' HD LCD TV and 5.1 Sony Home Theatre System with in ceiling and in-wall Yamaha speakers & subwoofer.
We provide Dish Network Satellite TV reception, a DVD player upstairs, and a Sony PS3 downstairs.
The kitchen has a dual composite sink, antiqued and distressed cabinets and granite countertop. Whirlpool electric range and ceramic stovetop, microwave, dishwasher, and French door bottom freezer refrigerator, and various small appliances for your convenience.
We have a beautifully decorated king Master Bedroom and Bathroom with tub/shower and two sinks upstairs. Then we have a cozy and cute queen Bedroom downstairs with an equally cute full (shower-only) bathroom.
We have a doubledecker deck. Right outside the kitchen on the upper deck we have a stainless steel propane gas grill for quick and easy grillin'. Walk around the corner and you are outside the upstairs living room overlooking our holler. There are with plenty of tables & chairs to spread out, and two comfortable rocking chairs for relaxing with someone special. The Hot Tub is on the lower deck, along with more tables & chairs, and being lower, a closer view of the Holler!.
Outside, we have beautiful natural landscaping.. We also have an outdoor fire-pit. We supply the wood - you supply the common sense and don't set the woods on fire.
Details matter, and we have put extra attention in appointments and furnishings, from the linens to the wall decor. For all beds we use premium quality mattresses and high thread count sheets.
How do you get a mountain view - You gotta climb a hill. With over twenty years of rental guests coming and going on our hill, obviously this is not an issue for most folks. But for a few it is. Unlike so many of the privately owned roads out here in the country, we make sure ours is maintained regularly. Nevertheless, low-slung cars, overloaded/under-powered vehicles, and timid drivers are at a disadvantage driving any gravel hill. If you want to know more, please ask.

About the host
Hosted by Steve 3
We're a Georgia family who has owned and personally managed Hills 'n Holler for over 20 years. We're not a property management company, not a remote investor, not a hands-off owner. When you message us, you're talking to the people who chose every piece of furniture, planted the landscaping, picked the linens, and care about every guest who walks through the door.
We respond to every inquiry personally, usually within an hour during the day. We screen guests carefully because we want the right fit for our cabin and for you. Once you're booked, we're available for emergencies and questions, but we also believe your vacation should be your vacation. We're not breathing down your neck.
What sets us apart from many vacation rentals in this area is the personal involvement. We know this cabin. We know what works in winter, what guests love in fall, what to do when the satellite needs a reboot. Most cabins in this area changed ownership during the 2020-2022 boom and are now run by management companies. We're still here, still caring, still answering the phone ourselves.
Outside of hosting we enjoy the same things our guests do: time in the mountains, good food, family, and that uniquely Georgia combination of country charm and Southern hospitality. We hope you'll feel that when you stay with us.
Why they chose this property
The Cartecay River area of Gilmer County is one of North Georgia's hidden corners. We're 12 miles from Ellijay, the Apple Capital of Georgia, and conveniently between Blue Ridge, Dahlonega, and Dawsonville.
Hills 'n Holler sits on a wooded hillside with a view down across an open hollow — the kind of mountain spot where you can look down through the canopy and see the open ground beneath. The deck wraps around the cabin and gives you mountain views in one direction and the quiet hollow setting in the other. In fall the trees go full color around the deck and you'll see deer and the occasional bear from a respectful distance. In winter you can see further through the bare branches. Every season has its own character.
What we love about this specific spot is the combination of true privacy and easy access. You're far enough off the main road to hear nothing but birds and creek water, but you're 15 minutes from a great restaurant, antique shopping, the Apple Festival, scenic railway in Blue Ridge, gold panning in Dahlonega, and Amicalola Falls. The Cartecay River and Cartecay Vineyards are 5 minutes away.
This is mountain country the way it should feel — peaceful, real, and deeply Southern. The kind of place that reminds you what slowing down feels like.
What makes this property unique
Hills 'n Holler is built around the wrap-around deck and the mountain view. The deck encircles the cabin and gives you outdoor living space in every direction — morning coffee on one side, afternoon sun on another, sunset and stars on a third. The hot tub sits on the deck with the mountain view directly in front of you. The fire pit is just off the deck for cool evenings under the stars.
Inside, we have a wood-burning fireplace as the heart of the living room, a fully stocked kitchen for family meals, satellite TV and WiFi throughout. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, sleeps 6 comfortably. Quality mattresses, high thread count sheets, plush spa towels and robes for the hot tub, real attention to detail. The cabin doesn't try to be a luxury showpiece. It tries to be a quality, comfortable, well-maintained mountain home that you'll want to come back to.
The setting is what makes Hills 'n Holler distinctive. Most cabins in Ellijay are perched on a slope facing one direction. Ours has a wrap-around deck and an open hollow below the trees, so you have multiple outdoor spots to settle into and the view changes as you move around the cabin. Pet friendly and family friendly. Dog walkers, kid wranglers, hot tub soakers, and porch sitters all welcome.
Same family ownership and care for over 20 years. We know this cabin and we want you to love it as much as we do.
