Historic Barker House was the perfect accommodation for our visit to Gettysburg and historic Hanover with plenty of 19th-century charm and all the modern comforts. The kitchen and bathroom were well-stocked with everything we needed, and the coffee shop/bakery right down the street was great for a morning treat. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the stories of the Civil War history of the house. Highly recommended!
Excellent place to stay! Comfortable, decorated so well. And the hosts thought of all tne extras--snacks upon arrival, fresh flowers, extra laundry items etc. Would definitely recommend!
Clean and comfortable historic home. Perfect size for two or three people. Relatively close to Gettysburg for daily visits. Nice restaurant options in the area. House was well equipped and we appreciated the snacks, bathroom items, and kitchen gear. It made for a relaxing trip. Thanks!
I was in town for a few short days. The location definitely is very close to Gettysburg as well as walking distance to the local coffee shop winery and a few other store fronts.

We had a fantastic time at the Barker House. It is perfectly located for activities in Gettysburg, while also peaceful and quiet for getting away from the crowds. The house was immaculate, well stocked, and comfortable. The balcony was great for morning coffee and an evening glass of wine. We will definitely be back!

Thank you for your 5 star review John. I’m sorry you felt it was cold on the first floor. I hope you adjusted the heat to your comfort level. We have it warm (winter) and cool (summer) for guests, however everyone’s view on what is too hot/cold is an individual choice/opinion which is why you can adjust it to your liking once you arrive. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and our place!
We had a fantastic stay in New Oxford. It’s about a 18 minute drive from Gettysburg which got us away from the hustle and bustle of the film festival going on. Around the corner is a fabulous little coffee shop that had amazing breakfast. The place itself had everything we needed for our stay and the unit was super clean. Talked to the owner about the history behind the house and it was fascinating to learn all the stories and how the house itself is linked to the Civil War. Also, if you like antiques, definitely check out the places around New Oxford!
The place was lovely, clean, roomy, and conveniently located. That would be enough for a five star review. But there is more. The hosts went above and beyond! They were so helpful and gracious when something of ours was accidentally sent there after we left to send it back!

Thanks for the great feedback. We enjoyed having you and please come back again anytime.
Lovely home and furnishings. We slept in the main bed and had our coffee on the balcony. In the eve, we sat in the lounger and couch and watched old westerns (and a bit of Leave it to Beaver). We opened up all the blinds and enjoyed the historical brick homes and quaint streets. Lots of nice natural light. Took a walk down to the cemetery and relaxed by the Conewago creek. Bought a little wineglass in an antique shop. Disc golfed at the community church. Spent beautiful days at Pinchot State Park and Cordurus at the beach and disc golf course. We love driving through the old Hanover. We visited family in Hanover and will probably be back again next year to stay with you. We’re from SLC and drove to PA and back visiting much of the Appalachia area.

About the host
Hosted by Michelle Gemmill
Michelle and Shawn live on the property with their very friendly black lab Roxy. We enjoy traveling, hiking and supporting local small businesses.
Why they chose this property
We love the friendly small town of New Oxford that's close to all of big town amenities.
What makes this property unique
The Barker House as it's known locally has a very long history and especially as it relates to the American Civil War. The home was visited several times by Thaddeus Stevens a well know abolitionist who was very deeply invovled in the passing of the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments. The Confederate General John B. Gordon visited just days before the infamous Battle of Gettysburg.
