Not ready for guests!
The problems started with failure to answer communications. When we arrived at 4 pm (the start time) I had not heard from the host. I called VRBO, and they patched me through. The "host" said he didn't expect us, and couldn't get there for half an hour. When he arrived, he said he had to clean up. I waited in a corner of the kitchen for 6 hours while he and his family cleaned. By the way, the heat wasn't working. We told the other 4 people who were planning to come to wait until the next day. So two of us, after 11, finally had a room. The portable electric heater made it sleepable. The next morning, I phoned the host and he said he understood that I wasn't happy, and offered to refund the payment. I decided that the best course was to find a hotel for the second night, requiring two suites for the 6 of us who had planned to stay at the VRBO. I also realized that the listing, while accurate as far as it went, failed to note that the only place for 6 people was around the kitchen table-- there is no living room.
I am trying to get my money back, but so far nothing from the "host."
