Judge's Mountain Cabin
New Listing - Walk to Clayton
You will not want to leave this cabin, so cozy and quiet yet close to everything. Built by Supreme Court Justice Judge Logan Bleckley on Screamer Mountain in the mid 1800's, see photos and remained in the Bleckley family until 2022 when it was completely restored back to as original as possible. It is situated on 11 acres, so plenty of room for hiking up the mountain and be sure to stop and see the old clay tennis court he built for he and his wife. Also only a 5 min walk to downtown Clayton.

We loved the cabin for its’ location, history, and amenities! Perfect spot for our girls’ getaway but would also be great for couples or families with kids. Less than 5 minutes to downtown, grocery stores, shopping and so many good restaurants. Two state parks and the Foxfire Museum were on our list and we really enjoyed our time in Rabun County!
Really enjoyed our stay here. It is extremely close to Clayton, but at the same time seems very private. The house itself has been beautifully renovated, but manages to keep the feeling of a beautiful old cabin. Definitely recommend for a Clayton getaway!
Amazing property. The location to downtown Clayton is perfect for shopping and dining. My family and I enjoyed the house and property. Only 45 minutes away from the Highlands as well. Many hiking trails very close as well.
My family stayed here over a long weekend and had a wonderful time! Right in town, but easy access to rivers to fish. Near nice restaurants, antique stores, etc. A few minutes from downtown Clayton! Would recommend!

Thank you for being our guests. We are glad you enjoyed it! Please come back anytime...we would be happy to host your family again
We loved this adorable restored cabin! Check in was really easy and the cabin had everything we needed! Loved the giant fireplace! Only thing we didn’t like was the property had some fill dirt and there was trash and pieces of glass in the yard. No bare feet in this yard!
We loved the cabin. It was rustic and very charming. We wished the seating would have been where the 4 of us could all sit comfortable together. There is a love seat and 2 straight back chairs in one area and the other has a sofa and a bench. The only other problem we had was evidence of a mouse in the kitchen and upstairs on one of the beds.

Thank you for staying with us. Im sorry the seating didn’t work out. It is a cabin and somewhat small. However, in the most open room of the cabin (with the love seat and 2 straight chairs) there are also six chairs at the dining table and five barstools within arms reach either way. As far as the evidence of a mouse, I will let the pest control company know, as it is serviced monthly. In the mountains, there are always critters trying to get into a vacant house, especially when we are just coming in or out of a cold snap.
Absolutely loved the cabin. Best way to describe it... fancy rustic. Plenty of room, beautifully decorated. Maybe 5 minutes from the beautiful city of Clayton, but very secluded. Pictures of cabin were accurate. Communication with owner was great, very responsive in a timely manner. Certainly would like to stay here again. 4 twin beds in loft area with bathroom was perfect for granddaughters, and 2 bedrooms on main level, perfect for my grandson and myself. We each had our own bathroom. Very relaxing wrap around porch. Really enjoyed our stay

What makes this property unique
My wife and I were able to buy this property in 2022, it consisted of 11 acres and an old cabin. It had been in the Bleckley family since before records were kept. The cabin caught our eye immediately, even though it had been abandoned by the family for some 20 years. The roof and the floors had rotted and fallen in, in several areas, but for some strange reason we felt like we could restore it. We negotiated a price and purchased the property. Then we found out the rest of the story... In downtown Clayton, there is a monument honoring Logan Edwin Bleckley, a very prominent figure in the State of Georgia in the late 1800's. He was born and raised on Screamer mountain (thus the property) and went on to be an attorney and ultimately served as Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court from 1887 to 1894. He was also a Confederate Soldier. He resided at the cabin, along with his wife, while he served in Atlanta on the bench, where the cabin served as their weekend home. If you walk up the hill behind the house, you will see a level area on the side of the mountain (old dog pen is there now) this is where they had a clay tennis court. We striped the cabin back down to the bare studs and completely remodeled it, after years of upgrades and renters had taken its toll. We tried to be as true to the era as possible in getting it back to the way it may have been in the 1800's. We hope you enjoy your stay in one of the older cabins of Rabun County.
