About this property

Mandarin Escape · Rooftop Deck, Hot Tub, Views

Summary:

Morning coffee on Mandarin Escape's raised deck comes with views in every direction from a hilltop in Yucca Valley's Western Hills Estates. Grill lunch, read on the curtained daybed, then slip into the hot tub tucked among the boulders, with two seasonal cowboy tubs for warm days, unavailable November through March. Inside, marigold tile, a record player and a secret jungle cubby make this retro two-bedroom a lot of fun.

The Space:

Mandarin Escape is a retro-inspired, 2,000 sq ft two-bedroom home on a hilltop in the Western Hills Estates neighborhood of Yucca Valley, and it wears its sunset colors proudly. A wall of glossy marigold tile rises in the living room, swirling orange prints hang above a tan leather sectional, and the two queen bedrooms come in Grapefruit pink and Lemon yellow. A big bay of windows brings the desert inside, while the raised deck and the boulders out back hold the views. It suits couples and small groups. Put on a record and find the secret jungle cubby before your friends do.

-Highlights-

► Large raised deck with panoramic views, an outdoor sofa, a curtained daybed and lounge chairs

► Hot tub tucked into the boulders

► Two seasonal cowboy tubs (not an in-ground pool), unavailable November through March

► Propane fire pit, propane BBQ and outdoor dining table

► Covered patio and a boulder-top table with distant views

► Private patio off the primary bedroom

► Secret jungle cubby

► Leather sectional, beanbags and smart TVs

► Record player and records, a guitar and board games

► Kitchen with double ovens, a KitchenAid mixer and a Café drip coffee maker

► Yoga mats and retro accessories for photos

► Fast Wi-Fi, central air and heating, washer and dryer

-Outdoor Amenities-

Start upstairs on the large raised deck, where the views run for miles in every direction and the sunrises and sunsets match them. Fire up the propane BBQ and carry lunch to the outdoor dining table, then claim the curtained daybed with a book or stretch out on a lounge chair in the sun. Roll out a yoga mat while the morning is still cool. As the light fades, gather on the outdoor sofa around the fire pit.

Downstairs, the covered patio keeps the same views in the shade and leads to the hot tub, tucked into the boulders, plus two cowboy tubs and more lounge chairs. The cowboy tubs are not an in-ground pool and are closed November through March. Climb up to the table and chairs on the private hill of boulders for desert and city views farther from the house, then come back down for a late soak once it gets dark. The yard is not fully fenced.

-Living Area-

Sink into a leather beanbag in front of the big bay of windows with your morning coffee and watch the light move across the desert. Glossy marigold tile climbs one wall, orange swirl prints hang over the tan leather sectional, and a woven basket of throws waits for movie night. Set a record spinning, pick up the guitar or deal out a board game. The retro accessories are on hand for whoever wants the photos.

-Kitchen and Dining-

Mustard-yellow cabinets, white counters and skylights keep the kitchen bright, and the windows hold onto the view while you cook. Double ovens, a KitchenAid mixer, a Smeg toaster and plenty of pots, pans, utensils, baking trays and serving dishes give everyone room to help. Brew a pot on the Café drip coffee maker, then gather at the oval table for six with its yellow chairs, or carry plates up to the deck dining table and eat with the desert in view.

-Bedrooms and Bathrooms-

Both bedrooms are spacious, each with a queen bed, blackout curtains, ample closet space, a desk and a private seating area. The Grapefruit Room is done in warm pinks and terracotta, with a tufted bench at the foot of the bed and a wood-slat wall behind it. The Lemon Room is filled with mustard yellows and has a couch for watching TV, plus the home's secret jungle cubby, its walls painted with a jungle scene. The primary opens to a private patio, so you can step outside before the rest of the house wakes.

The full bathroom keeps the palette going with blush-pink tile, a round vessel sink and brass fixtures, and a half bath adds a second option when everyone is getting ready at once.

-Surrounding Area-

Downtown Joshua Tree and the Flamingo Heights spots, La Copine and the Giant Rock Meeting Room, are close by, and the Integratron, the park's West Entrance and Pioneertown, home of Pappy and Harriet's and the Red Dog Saloon, are an easy drive. Spend a morning among the park's rock formations, come back for an afternoon on the deck, then head to Pappy's for music and dinner. Yucca Valley has shops and restaurants for everyday needs.

-Wildlife & Safety-

The desert landscape is teeming with wildlife and natural beauty, offering a unique connection to nature, but it's important to be mindful of the creatures and plants that call this area home. Guests may encounter a variety of wildlife during their stay, and while direct encounters with dangerous animals like coyotes, snakes, scorpions, bobcats, mountain lions and other desert dwellers are rare, it is important to be aware of your surroundings and to keep a safe distance from these creatures when spotted. Additionally, the desert is dotted with sharp cacti and other spiky plants. For your safety, always supervise children, pets, ESAs, and service animals while outdoors. Dogs should remain on a leash at all times and be watched closely while outdoors, as they can wander into potentially unsafe situations with wildlife or plants. By booking this property, guests acknowledge the potential for wildlife encounters and assume responsibility for their safety and the safety of their group. By respecting the local environment and staying aware, you can fully enjoy the magic of the desert.

Check in was simple, communication was quick and easy. A 5 minute drive to the grocery store and a 10-15 minute drive to Joshua Tree. Gorgeous views from the rooftop deck as well as from inside the house. Lots of space for our family of 4 to rest and reset on our spring break. The tiger, sloth and monkey were a delight to find.
