Mt Hope Heritage Home - Step back in time in this unique three bedroom home.
Your Mount Hope adventure begins at this terrific 3-bedroom house. Nestled in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, this charming property offers a cozy retreat for guests. This home is less than 30 minutes away from the New River Gorge National Park, Winterplace Ski Resort and the Scouting High Adventure Center. This historic home has plenty of rooms including a comfortable living room, study, formal dining room, a dine-in kitchen, and a screened-in back porch, so there's plenty of space for everyone to unwind. This home is one of the oldest in Mount Hope. The house was built in 1910 as the home and office for the doctor that served the people living in "The Little Town with a Big Welcome". James and Lucy Wilkins, my grandparents, purchased this home in 1940 from the doctor. James was the accountant for the New River Coal Company having moved to the area in 1920s. This home has been restored to its original appearance reflecting the styles of the Victorian / Art Nouveau eras. Come and step back in time in this unique home and enjoy all that Mount Hope and the surrounding areas have to offer when you stay at our place.

About the host
Hosted by Jeffry Wilkins
My wife and I are life-long Knoxvillians. We both graduated from the University of Tennessee. My wife is an RN and I am an architect.
I inherited this house from my Grandparents and renovated it so guests would have a unique stay experience of "stepping back in time" to the 1930 / 40s, when my father lived at home.
We have enjoyed coming to the area of many years to hike, raft and ski and wish to provide this same opportunity to our guests that come and visit this area.
Why they chose this property
My house is located in the mining town of Mount Hope, WV. The house was built in 1910 at the heyday of WV coal rush for the New River Coal Companies' doctor. The house is located on the outskirts of Mount Hope on the bypass around town. You can enjoy views of the town from the front porch or set on a back porch for a secluded view of the forested backyard.
The house is also located at the mid-point of the New River Gorge National Park were you can easily access either the north or south ends of the national park for a multitude of outdoor activities. The house is also located just a 10 minute drive to The Summit, a high adventure camp, of the Boy Scouts of America. The Summit also offers its facilities to numerous public event each year.
What makes this property unique
My house is unique because of its heritage as one of the few remaining original houses left in this mining town. It also provides a different type experience from any other guest houses in the area, since it provides a nostalgic stay harkening you back in time to when you would have visited your grand or great grandparents. The house contains the original antique furniture with all the amenities of new retro kitchen and bath fixtures.
